A vintage pager used by firefighters, EMS, and hospital staff alike has recently come into my possession. I understand that these were activated with tones, but what kind? Qcall tones? 2-tone paging? 5-tone paging? Where would I be able to find an inexpensive Handi-Talkie, or base station to generate said tones? Where would I also be able to find a base charger, or make a charger for the battery? I know what frequency it is on, and I know where I can get Vibra-sponder reeds to change the tones, I’m just curious if there was still a way to get it to sound, and maybe even have a little fun with it. ;)

I was at a bookstore yesterday when I looked inside a box of books. I picked up “the thing about jellyfish” by Ali Benjamin.
When I went to purchase it, the lady at the checkout asks me “Is this a gift?”
I had bought a book a few days ago and almost that same bookmark, but changed my mind last second, and she hadn’t asked me.
She gift wraps it for me along with that bookmark with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
I was intrigued because it’s about two best friends who grew up together but one of them dies in an accident. They fall out of touch months before her passing. Suzy tries to find out what happened to her friend and how had she passed.
I thought of my friend. That’s what happened to us. We grew up together. When I got the news my friend passed, I didn’t find out the details of how it happened until months later. We attended the same school like Suzy and Franny.
I encountered coincidences that validate details surrounding my friend’s death.
Suzy, the main character, last saw her best friend Franny 67 days ago.
In 2012, I hadn’t seen her in 67 days. January 2012 had 31 days, February 29 days, and March 7 days, the 7th being her last. A total of 67 days. I hadn’t seen her at all that whole year.
At Franny’s funeral, Suzy sees her friend’s final photo and notices she had a new pageboy haircut and thought, cute. She hadn’t been able to see her friend’s haircut before she passed. They hadn’t been talking.
When my friend passed, I found out she had just gotten that same exact haircut: a pageboy haircut and her classmates had commented on how cute her new haircut was.
Even the details surrounding Franny’s funeral were eerily similar. Suzy sees Franny’s two friends crying at her funeral. She thought that represented how distant she felt from her best friend. They felt close enough to her to cry. I thought of my friend’s roommate and her close college friend when I was introduced to them for the first time at her memorial and thought similarly of how distant we had grown.
I wonder if this could have been a gift from my friend. My friend wanting to validate what happened with us. She knew I hadn’t seen her at all in 2012. Not in 67 days.
The novel is about a young girl (I believe she's 12 or 13 and has a birthday at the end of the book) and her (twin?) brother being sent to live with their estranged grandmother over a summer. The girl is the victim of a fire and has some scars from her infancy/toddlerhood, and I believe her father was killed in the same fire. I believe it's set during WWII. The story starts with their mother taking them to a grandmother they haven't had any interaction with. I think there was a story line that the grandmother's house was "haunted" and the girl has some fascination with the widows walk on top of the house and the idea of women waiting for their husbands to return from sea. The girl is carrying a huge chip on her shoulder but as the book progresses she begins to open up, even finding some romance with a local boy near the end of the book. In addition the girl who believes this grandmother was not interested in their family, which was living such a hard and difficult life, was actually sending them letters, gifts, and money every holiday and birthday but they were all being sent back with "RETURN TO SENDER" by their mother.
Read this about 16 or 17 years ago when I was about 14. The book was possibly released around this time as well. Think I just bought the paper book from a barnes & noble or borders.

Almost two years to the day after Zeppelin’s 1977 North American tour was tragically cut short by the death of Robert Plant’s five year old son, the group reunited in Copenhagen to prepare for the two biggest shows of their career: the Knebworth gigs. In order to get ready, they performed a pair of warm up shows in Copenhagen in a small theater in front of a crowd of only a few hundred people. Despite their billing as being only low key warm up gigs, I actually find these two shows better than Knebworth. The band is relaxed and confident and ready to go right from the start. Gone are the marathon jams with songs like Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, and Moby Dick. Instead, the boys have “cut the waffle” and focused on tighter, more measured songs. These two shows are essential to any fan’s collection. Let’s take a look to find out why!
Performance: Given how inconsistent Zeppelin were in their latter years, one could be forgiven for thinking that this gig, their first in two years, would be shaky. Fortunately, apart from some technical issues with the lighting, nothing could be further from the truth. The band is tight and powerful as ever, playing with renewed determination. Page in particular is utterly fantastic. Apart from one moment where he gets lost in the solo in Misty Mountain Hop (odd considering how it’s one of his simplest ones), he’s extremely fluid and fluent, having finally regained the precision of his earlier years. Plant struggles a bit here and there, cracking a bit on some high notes that used to be easier. Fortunately, he still manages to put in a very good performance, debuting his new aggressive bark from the In Through the Out Door album. Bonzo is extremely powerful tonight, thrashing at his drums wildly without going over the top. Jones is tight and professional, laying down a solid foundation for the rest of the band.
Highlights: The show gets off to an excellent start with a thunderous The Song Remains the Same. No signs of rustiness are evident as the band hammers their way through the song with proficiency. This is immediately followed by the first performance of Celebration Day in six years. The band races through the song at a frantic pace. Page blazes through the guitar solo during a bone-crunching Black Dog, which is proceeded by an utterly brutal Nobody’s Fault But Mine. Over the Hills and Far Away features an exceptional guitar solo. Since I’ve Been Loving You is incredibly dramatic and powerful. No Quart

My wife and I are delving into Boardwalk Empire for the first time and everytime Michael Pitt comes on to screen she is frustrated that she can't put together who he reminds her of, and more importantly what media she is remembering. The best she could give me was that she hid her hair in a pageboy hat so the attire is 1920's-ish.
