[Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory] The entire factory visit was pre-planned (much like the competition), meaning Charlie won the factory on purpose
This theory was written by Travelbound in the YT comments of The Film Theoristsβ classic βWilly Wonkaβs Factory is full of OSHA violationsβ video, which turns out to be the most-liked one there.
____________________________________________________________________________
Not bad MatPat. Not bad. But let me try one better. Willy Wonka was willing to risk the OSHA violations because the contest winners never actually saw the real factory. What they saw was a series of carefully crafted rooms designed to test the real winner of the golden ticket contest. Why? To find his true successor. Who? Charlie Bucket. That's right! Charlie was the first choice all along. But Wonka had to test him.
First piece of evidence that we see that the factory Wonka showed off wasn't the real factory was right in the opening credits. Remember the credits rolling over a series of conveyor belts and machines making chocolate? Funny how we never saw that room in the tour huh? That's because non disclosure agreements aside, Wonka wasn't going to trust his secrets to a group of strangers. So that's reason number 1 he created a bunch of fake candy making rooms that would still be way too small to produce the massive amounts of chocolate he actually sells.
Reason number 2 is as he says in the movie, he needed someone to pass his secrets down to. So he sent his only non Oompa Loompa employee Mr Wilkerson to find an honest child. He found four kids that could have been candidates but they were eliminated. Augustus had a good head for business "it'll cost him a fortune in fudge" but he was a glutton. Veruca wasn't afraid to boss people around but she was spoiled and greedy. Violet was competitive but a nitwit. Mike had a scientific mind since he was always asking questions, but he was lazy. Then right in the same town Wilkerson finds Charlie Bucket. But there's a problem. All the other kids turned out the way they did because of their parents. And while Charlie was mostly a good kid, he still had a father figure in his life that was a bad influence. That's right. Grandpa Joe. After all the man spent twenty years in a bed then gets up and does a song and dance? Some kind of fraud going on there... Don't believe sweet Grandpa Joe was a bad influence? Who convinced Charlie to try the fizzy lifting drinks?
So Wonka decides to create a series of fake rooms to tour and at the same t

Danny Elfman: "Veruca Salt (Unused Bollywood Version)" (2004). The initial plan for Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" had been for all the "death songs" to be presented in a Bollywood fashion, but Elfman's initial drafts sounded too much the same, so they went with more varied styles.

I like the Johnny Depp βCharlie and the Chocolate Factoryβ more than the original.
Excuse me for appreciating his creepy take on Willy Wonka. This guy lives in a magical factory with enslaved creatures churning away at chocolate rivers day and right. I donβt want some regular sarcastic dude in a purple jacket, I want a fucking weirdo that makes me uncomfortable and wonder what kind of porn he watches at the end of the day. Johnny Depp gave me that.

The internet has ruined good, wholesome cultural pieces like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Over on Ask Reddit, thereβs a post about what if it was Charlie and the Cheesecake Factory. Fun ideas, but of course it turned into talking about how horrible and lazy Grandpa Joe was.
Iβm pretty sure nobody saw it this way until the internet ruined Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Grandpa Joe was a symbol of how a lack of hope and joy crushes resilience. He and the other grandparents lived a very miserable life at that point. When the golden ticket was found, he was overcome by joy and found his youth again. The only real problem with this is the fact that in reality he would have bed sores and blood clots from being in bed for so long. Getting out of bed that quickly and leaping around probably wouldβve killed him.

Anyone have a grandparent like Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate factory?
Grandpa Joe spent 20 years in bed (age 44ish-64ish, based on age of actor) for no apparent medical reason, just because he wanted to, even though his family was very poor. Then when something exciting happened he got out and about.
I read a comment that choosing to be bed ridden used to be common for seniors in Britain in the 1900s. Is there any truth to this?

Tim Burtonβs Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasnβt bad.
Almost every bit of opinion I see about the movie is that it was bad and ruined the original Willy Wonka movie. While I agree that the whole βWilly Wonkaβs dentist fatherβ backstory was completely unnecessary, the rest of the movie was actually closer in details to the book, from the Oompa Loompasβ song lyrics drawing directly from the book (and made into actual distinct songs instead of βOompa Loompa Doopity Dooβ over and over) to the actual title of the movie. Maybe my opinion is invalid because I saw this version first as a kid, but I think it gets too much hate.

The 2005 film adaptation of "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" is better than the 1971 film adaptation
I like the books and I feel that the 2005 adaptation is better because it feels more similar to the books, like the music, the glass elevator and the "Verruca Salt" scene. The CGI in the 2005 film feels better than the practical effects of the 1971 adaptation. I still like the 1971 film though. But I'm sorry, the 2005 film is better IMO. I like the Nightmare Before Christmas feel, the music, the accuracy to the source material and Wonka's dark backstory. The only negative point I have is that Willy Wonka in the 2005 film looked too much like Michael Jackson
