A list of puns related to "Optical Network Terminal"
I own a small consultancy firm, and one of my clients, a mid-size telecom, claims that it is impossible to provide Dedicated Internet service wherever an ONT is the terminal point. Another client claims the opposite. Which is correct?
I had a head-scratcher the other night that I resolved. Wanted to share this in case anyone else runs into this issue. I've since found this related post.
My pfSense WAN interface is directly connected to my Fios ONT. I rebooted pfSense while trying to diagnose a performance bottleneck I was seeing. After reboot, pfSense could no longer route traffic to the internet. I could ping the gateway that the Verizon's DHCP provided.
At first, I thought that Fios DHCP was to blame because it has caused others issues in the past. I relinquished, released, and renewed the WAN interface's IP address. No joy. After doing some googling, I also changed the WAN interface's DHCP Client Configuration presets from pfSense Default to FreeBSD. Still no joy.
Given that I could ping the ONT gateway but nothing else north of the ONT, I thought that I might have a routing issue. In the CLI, I confirmed that I didn't have an IP associated with the default route. That led me to have a look at System / Routing / Gateways. The IPV4 Gateway was set to Automatic. I changed it to WAN_DHCP and problem solved.
I have 500Mbps Google fiber. At least twice a week, I get a red light on my GFLT100 and if I unplug it the power and ethernet and plug it back in a minute later, it will go blue and start working again after about 5-10 minutes.
It is warm to the touch around the ethernet and power ports when this happens. This happens at all times of the day, even late at night when nothing is being downloaded.
I work in IT and to me it seems like it is overheating and disconnecting. Originally we had 100Mbps but then we upgraded to 500Mbps and I'm not sure if the GFLT is keeping up.
I want to get a new Fiber Jack, is there any difference in the specs between the GFLT100, GFLT110 and GFLT300?
I can't find much online except for this page
Thanks!
Currently, we have a Optical Network Terminal which then connects to a Actiontec gateway, which then connects to a Actiontec extender. I'm far from an expect in this area, but I was just wondering if my setup up would be compatible with Google Wifi. Would I connect the Google Wifi device to the ONT, or would I connect it to the gateway?
My ISP uses a 2-screw 12V 2A power supply for powering my ONT. The ONT is installed on the side of the house, but the power wires are inside and the power supply is plugged into a UPS. Today the power supply went out and left me dead in the water. Anyone have suggestions on how I might wire up redundant power for this scenario? I have UPS' and other backup systems in place, but never considered the transformer for the ONT going out.
So a while back, my ISP installed fiber optic lines in my area and then installed an indoor ONT (Calix 716ge-i) in our house and which is connected to the modem/router we already were using. I have a few questions regarding the ONT.
Does the ONT function as the internet modem now (instead of my modem/router combo) Or is is just a means to separate the Internet data stream from the voice/video streams? In turn, do all or only some indoor ONTs function as modems? I wasnβt sure if my modem/router combo was still functioning as both, or only as a router now.
The ONT has 4 LAN ports, one of which is connected to the modem/router, which has 4 LAN ports of its own. Whatβs the purpose of the 3 additional LAN ports on the ONT? Could they be used for connecting for additional routers or set-top boxes for video?
I had to call today to have the other 3 ports on my modem router switched over from video to internet, as only one was being used for internet. Could all 4 LAN ports on the modem/router be used for internet, and the other 3 open LAN ports on the ONT be reserved for video/television steams? We currently have separate satellite TV service, but I was just wondering how this worked and why ports on my modem/router were even being reserved for video. Iβd never even heard of this type of television connection until now.
Sorry for the very long-winded question. I just couldnβt find anything online to explain this property and thought Iβd try my luck here. Thanks in advance!
