A list of puns related to "Operation Gladio"
This is a dirty secret not many people know about, on how Nato sponsored operation Gladio also know as operation "Stay-Behind" in order to counter potential Soviet invasion of Europe from the 60's to the 80's. It's really interesting.
I don't know if you cover this type of stories but even for your own knowledge this story deserves to be known and I think YOU are the perfect person to explain that to you 5 million + followers.
If not, why?
I want to do some reading after listening to a bunch of podcasts about Gladio. Does anybody have any suggestions? Or anything similar?
i heard someone mention it on here and i was wondering if anyone had any books or documentaries they'd recommend
I know that NATO defenders will staunchly stand behind the intervention in Libya as doing exactly what it set out to do (stop Gaddafi from slaughtering thousands of his own civilians on a weekly basis) and will claim it's not responsible for the civil war in Libya 3 years later or the general instability in the region post-Gaddafi. I also know that NATO defenders will claim that the bombing in Bosnia and Yugoslavia prevented a genocide in Kosovo.
But what do you guys have to say about Operation Gladio? I mean, what is the defense for NATO and the CIA backing monarchist and fascist paramilitary groups in the Years of Lead? Does the spread of communism in Southern Europe really justify this?
Or is the flair ironic?
And good recommendations on this topic?
Having a bit of a hard time finding a straightforward answer to this question, only convoluted roundabouts. Any information would be much appreciated!
Edit: have found some acts including bombings of Italyβs own civilians in order to blame the left wing. Also seen a little bit about βa strategy of tensionβ.
Another question: if the red brigades were considered to be left wind, then who were the right wing of Italyβs government during this time?
Hey everyone,
I'm a screenwriting student looking to write a screenplay about a former operative in the Cold War operation Gladio - however, I'm kind of stuck with knowing where to look for research. Do you guys have any tips?
Thanks in advance!

Operation Gladio was a clandestine stay-behind organization formed by the Western Union (soon to be NATO) countries at the end of WW2, ostensibly to prevent a communist takeover of Europe. Their methods ("allegedly") included bombings, kidnappings, assassinations, human trafficking, you name it.
Anyway, certain elements of season one were bringing it to mind. So of course, then I started season two tonight, and it kicked off with news reports about the assassination of Aldo Moro, that many have directly attributed to the machinations of Gladio.
But yeah, what a fascinating and prescient show. Truth be told, I'm kind of afraid to see what Amazon has done with their remake, but I'm enjoying the hell out of the original at the moment.
Content Warning: Discussion of rape, torture and death
>Operation Gladio is the codename for clandestine "stay-behind" operations of armed resistance that was organized by the Western Union (WU), and subsequently by NATO and the CIA, in collaboration with several European intelligence agencies. The operation was designed for a potential Warsaw Pact invasion and conquest of Europe. While an invasion never happened, some of the anti-communist armed groups engaged in the harassment of left-wing parties, terror attacks, massacres and torture in countries such as Italy.

>The role of the CIA in Gladioβthe extent of its activities during the Cold War era and any responsibility for terrorist attacks perpetrated in Italy during the "Years of Lead" (late 1960s to early 1980s)βare the subject of debate. In 1990 the European Parliament adopted a resolution alleging that military secret services in certain member states were involved in serious terrorism and crime, whether or not their superiors were aware.

>To date, only Italy, Switzerland and Belgium have had parliamentary inquiries into the matter. The judge Guido Salvini, who worked in the Italian Massacres Commission, found out that the terrorist organizations of the Years of Lead: La Fenice, National Vanguard and Ordine Nuovo were the trench troops of a secret army, remotely controlled by exponents of the state apparatus and linked to the CIA Salvini said that the American services encouraged them to commit atrocities. The Swiss inquiry found that British intelligence secretly cooperated with their army in an operation named P-26 and provided training in combat, communications, and sabotage. It also discovered that P-26 not only would organize resistance in case of a Soviet invasion, but would also become active should the left succeed in achieving a parliamentary majority.

The article is pretty spectacular and weird and worth reading on its own: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_stay-behind_network

>The network was supported with elements from SDECE (also a bad group), and had military support from the 11th Choc regiment. The former director of DGSE, admiral Pierre Lacoste, alleged in a 1992 interview with The Nation, that certain ele
