A list of puns related to "Nuclear Implosion"
M1 device (Gerboise Bleue nuclear test)
You may have seen this picture attributed to Gerboise Bleue, the first French nuclear test. Thank to u/butch2k on twitter that acquired a physical copy of an extremely rare book (Trente ans d'essais nucléaire français - no trace of it on the Web), I can confirm that it originated from an official publication by CEA-DAM (the French AEC).

We can clearly see that at the time, the French engineers had sought an 8 points implosion system with an external neutron source (Which I think is the upper opening). The external neutron source was already confirmed by Pierre Billaud, a former French nuclear physicist (here). This book gives credit to the authenticity of this footage at 10.46 (here and below) of what I think is a cold test device from the CEA-DAM laboratory of Fort_de_Vaujours which also seems like an 8 points implosions device. The footage is from a French science TV show for teenagers. It has some nice footage (in particular of the Valduc Laboratory) but is otherwise utterly basic. The interesting part is only illustrative and not commented. As the CEA-DAM was involved in the making of this documentary, I suspect that it is from its historical video repository but failed to find more info on it.
As u/restricteddata said when I presented him this footage, the ogival shape of these explosives lenses is, hmmm, very french. Pierre Billaud describe them as a tΓ©ton pointu de rΓ©volution (here) - literally translated as pointy nipple of revolution... It's probably a technical term (tΓ©ton is also a mechanical term) that I fail to understand it... (I tried to Google it... bad idea).
BTW u/careysub wrote the following statement about some French explosive lenses assembly on http://nuclearweaponarchive.org:

My (25F) father married my step-sister's (23F) mother when I was 4 and she was 3. We've lived together most of our lives and are a family. She and I were extremely close.
She developed cancer when she was 14 and was sick for about 2 years. She's since made a full recovery. During that time, my parents became understandably over-protective. They also asked a lot of me. I quit my extracurriculars so I could get a job (the money went towards her medical bills) and so I could drive her to appointments. I didn't go to dances and any fun activities I did needed to include her. I did almost all of this willingly, the exception being having to quit my high school volleyball team
I broke it off, tears were shed, he moved out, etc. My sister apologized at first but then backed off. I thought she was giving me space but last week she called and asked if we could meet up. She told me that she and Ben were in love and were just telling me as a courtesy before they started posting photos online. Distraught, I left her in the restaurant by herself and did not pay my portion of the bill. She later venmo'ed me asking for the money. She told my parents who then called me to their house, telling me how disappointed in me they are for not supporting my sister's relationship with Ben. They brought up the fact that because she had cancer as a teenager, she never learned proper social etiquette, and has a hard time meeting people. I don't buy this, in part because I've seen her socialize just fine and since we spent a good chunk of the time she was sick together, that would also mean that I should have bad social skills as well, by that logic. They then told me that if I don't accept my sister and Ben's relationship, they may have to go no contact with me. I reminded them that I'm also their daughter and they should understand my poi

He didnβt have long he rolled the man over and put the knife to his throat then began franticly padding down his pockets and then upending his backpack.
Seeing the flash drive he grabbed it and was about to start running when he spotted something else amongst the things scattered from the mans pack.
Blood-bags, he scooped them up shoving them into his coat pocket just as the sirens began to wail and the sky began to darken, an emission was on the way and he was too far from the train tunnel to make it in time, so he ran to the only shelter he could, a nearby sewer manhole down into the Rostok sewers lay five minutes run from where he was right now so he slung his pack onto his back and ran.
By the time he was yanking the cover clear the sky was already red and a distant rumble could be heard he looked down and swung his feet onto the ladder before dragging the manhole cover back into place over him until it slotted back into the hole.
He could smell the filth and decay in the air, as well as something else, crawling down the ladder he felt like just curling up and waiting for the emission to pass.
But the bleached bones inside a black and red outfit next to him said this wasnβt a good idea and he could already feel a faint headache telling him there wasnβt enough around him to shield him, he looked to either side and saw a small pipe barely three feet across, he did not like this.
The building pain in his skull overrode his fear and he began crawling every foot further made the pain subside more finally he had crawled enough he ran his hand through his pack until it fell upon something, old thick and metal yanking the large old cooking pot out of his bag, he thrust his head inside it and felt the throbbing subside as the noise built up louder and louder.

If our goal is to avoid near-term human extinction, our task must surely be to preserve as much viable habitat and natural ecology as possible to sustain survivors post Collapse. Each day that passes, The Global Industrial Machine adds a net increase of 200,000 people, 100 Mt of CO2 into the atmosphere, a net deforestation loss of 6,753 Ha, and the death of perhaps 24 or more species. We are deep into overshoot and no one seriously expects βthe carbon will stay in the groundβ. No thinking person, not even the nuttiest Nobel Prize-winning economist, expects that The Machine will be stopped voluntarily. Only the most deluded think that the tech that caused all the problems in the first place can somehow transform planetary cancer into a virtue. Peaceful mass-mobilizations are going nowhere. As to Involuntary Emergency Deindustrialization (IED), it currently appears that in a population of almost 8 billion, not even a handful can be found to take up a monkey wrench against The Machine thatβs set to exterminate everyone. Considering how fragile it is, quite conceivably, even 500 determined, well-placed lone wolves (#500LoneWolves), operating independently, could bring down the entire global industrial system in a day with far less loss of life than if it is allowed to continue (though whether they could keep it down is another que

China May Have Won World War 3 Without Firing a Shot - Part 1 of 2
If thereβs one nation on earth that truly understands the long game, itβs China. I mean truly understands the long game. China has existed as a relatively defined territory with a unified cultural identity for more than 3600 years, a period in which Greece was pre-democratic, Sparta hadnβt yet been founded, and storytellers were conjuring the labours of Heracles and Noah.
Perhaps we can think of a nation not in geopolitical terms, but as a loose collective who share a unity of purpose, a narrative history blended from myth, lore, legend, art, born of ancient, tribal affiliations, epochs of trade and cultural transactions, and brought together by a portmanteau language and urban sprawl, being governed by their own kind who conduct diplomatic relations with foreign governments on their behalf. These loose collectives will either develop to a point where their purpose achieves greater singularity β war, trade, manufacturing β and their identity strengthens, or they will wither or fracture. Winners have strong leaders. Strong leaders have foresight. Foresight breeds dynasties. And dynasties have a tendency to think eternalistically. Obviously, most are wrong, a misapprehension usually ending with a spectacular, megadeath-scenario implosion.
Considered the founders of China, the thing that made the Shang emperors good at ruling was their ability to ap

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. Then I put a boot-full of water from a Colorado mountain stream in the Rockies into that sorry excuse for a coffee maker (I think it caused a problem later). I reached over and jabbed the on button with high anticipation. The response was not as anticipated. There was a low rumbling as a nuclear reverse osmosis reaction started cascading into a cosmic implosion, the coffee pot disappeared first and then the wall behind it started to dissolve and I could see stars. Well in a nanosecond the coffee could not be found and the west side of the house was completely gone. I don't know how the coffee tastes so don't come and get it. (Continued from part 1)
The twin tracks situated beneath each corner of the massive vehicle were about as large as Kodiaks in their own right, the sand now beginning to form drifts around them, as though the desert was trying to reclaim them. The longer this thing stayed in one place, the harder it would be for it to dig itself out. If the crew had ever managed to fix whatever mechanical problem had stranded them, they would probably have needed a whole army of Rask armed with shovels to free themselves.
βThingβs as big as a goddamned building,β Stevens muttered, craning his neck as he looked up at the hull high above them. The underside was crisscrossed with all manner of structural supports and exposed machinery, the haze obscuring the far end from view. It was like being beneath an iron sky.
βGrapples,β Brenner ordered, letting his XMR hang from its sling as he pulled a device from a holster on his belt. It was shaped like a pistol, small and compact enough to be wielded with one hand, a spool of nylon-lined cable wrapped around the barrel. He aimed it at the walkway high above, and his team did the same. Brenner pulled the trigger, the device firing a grappling hook that caught on the guardrail, wrapping itself around it before catching. He gave it a tug, making sure that it had a good hold. Falling from that height in one-point-three Gs wasnβt something that heβd be likely to survive.
He hooked the launcher to a harness on his belt, letting the device lift him off the ground, his skids leaving the sand. The wind rocked him as he neared the walkway, making him swing, the same happening to his team. Hoff almost clocked Stevens in the head with his boot, but Stevens elected to slow his ascent, narrowly avoiding a kick to the helmet. When they were in armβs reach of the railing, they hoisted themselves up, detaching the cords from their belts.
βLeave the grapples here,β Brenner warned, βwe might need to make a hasty exit.β
The second team began to scale the hull, climbing up to the deck above. It was about twelve feet high, but there were ample handholds, not a problem for someone with superhuman grip strength. As they vanished over the top, Brenner led his team around the side of the hull, following the walkway to the nearest door. They stacked up beside it, their weapons at the ready. Stevens unscrewed the suppressor from his rifle and stowed it in a pouch on his chest rig, shortening the barrel length a little to make it easier to handle in close
