A list of puns related to "Neil Labute"
I recently watched In the Company of Men and thought it was excellent, but horrifyingly painful to watch in its emotional cruelty. I thought it was a dark and clever exploration of misogyny, toxic maculinity, and corporate macho bullshit, but definitely not a comedy.
I was left wondering why IMDB, Wikipedia, Rotten Tomatoes et al all describe it as a comedy? Does anyone know whether Neil Labute considers it to be a comedy? Even with the most generous interpretation I can't personally include this in the genre of 'black comedy'. Aaron Eckhart's portrayal of the malevolent Chad (the character that drives the plot) is exceptional, but at no point could I find any humour in his Machiavellian scheming. Matt Malloy's weak-willed Howard iinitially seems like he may provide some comic relief, but this character too quickly reveals a dark and disturbing side. Does anyone find this film amusing on any level?

Can anyone help a fella out? Thanks!
Hey all. I've posted here about the last three plays my theatre company put on in Belfast, and people seemed interested - so I'm plugging my latest one too.
It's on at The Barracks which is a new theatre space just above the Duke of York (entrance is in the alley behind it). And it's BYOB which is handy because it's on holy thurday, good friday and holy saturday.
You can get tickets on our website - Pan Narrans Theatre
Below are some photos and the wee press release thing I've been sending out.
Cheers!
At Pan Narrans, we love storytelling theatre; Neil la Bute's Bash! is an excellent example of this genre. Three short plays, both inspired by and based on the work of the Ancient Greek writer Euripides, Bash! places Greek Tragedy at the heart of modern day America with all of the gruesomeness intact.
This piece is an excellent showcase for the emerging talent breaking through the NI theatre scene right now. Directed by Rhiann Jeffrey, a young local director and recent recipient of The BBC Fellowship For Emerging Artists. Having recently directed the much lauded 'Mydidae' at The MAC for Prime Cut, Jeffrey is a perfect fit for Bash!, another sharply focused, testing double hander.
Her cast comprises of Michael Patrick and Amanda Doherty. Both local actors who trained at the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London, each of these actors have experience in world-class,one-person storytelling theatre.
Soon to be seen at The Abbey Theatre's Othello, local audiences have previously seen Michael Patrick in 'I, Banquo', a one man retelling of Macbeth, at The Lyric Theatre, an exceptional show for which Michael earned the following review from the Belfast Times: βan experienced actor and a natural story teller... [we] were riveted by his performance.. an outstanding piece of theatre... this is theatre at its best."
Joining Michael is Amanda Doherty. With credits across TV, Film, and Theatre, Amanda's recent solo work includes 'Inheritance', her award-winning, original solo show which examined intergenerational PTSD in modern day Northern Ireland. Having toured internationally, including the prestigious Theatre Row, 42nd Street, New York, the show premièred in Derry City, for which Culture NI wrote the following review: *"Doherty is an actor of tremendous de
