Sorry to beat a dead horse with this as there are plenty of threads. But now that this is live Distributors like Pax8, appriver, etc are all releasing videos and emails trying to put lipstick on this pig. They all are saying the same thing that it will be better for partners, etc.

I do not want this to be a bashing thread but what are other msps and IT providers doing here and for their customers? It seems like there is really nothing beneficial to partners and it really puts a lot of risk and liability on us. Objectively speaking what are you all doing here? I am seriously considering having the customer go direct to Microsoft. The only ones hurt here are Pax8 and us but I do not think the tiny margin is worth this additional risk. Unless I am missing something. I do not want to go through the hassle of locking my customers into contacts for something where we make such tiny margins.

We all know that NCE sucks and I am still not sure that it isn't Microsoft's intention to utilize this to thin out there CSP partners.

Be that as it is, I am working on a Q1 licensing deal worth approx $40K/month and the customer wants a three year guarantee on pricing. This is going to have to be executed under NCE. However, under the new program the CSP partner will be liable for the entire term of the contract regardless whether the customer goes bankrupt or otherwise ceases to exist. If the customer defaults on this it would be nearly impossible for us as the liable partner to recover from.

I've heard rumors and mentions in other forums of an insurance product that the CSP can purchase to address the risk of the customer defaulting on large contracts like this - but never anything specific. Have any of you heard of an insurance product or policy to cover this type of risk?

I'm not the author of this topic but this could be a way to get attention from MS on the topic. I think having to take all the risk and not being able to switch between distributors nor partners is unacceptable.

Hi all -

I'm having a hard time setting up my Kato N-scale unitrack with the DCC NCE Power Cab. I'm using the included track wire feeder (with Tamiya plug removed, wires stripped 1/4" like the manual recommends, and NCE track wire plug tightened hand tight) -- but getting 0amps on the track, and my DCC loco does not respond at all. The red LED on the PCP does not come on either. I have tried reversing the wiring a few times with no luck. Pics are attached -- this is using the included Kato 20-041 62mm straight feeder that came with my M1 DC track set.

This is connected to a simple loop of Unitrack I had set up to get the DCC loco running and figure out how to operate. Any ideas would be helpful! I've also tried this same procedure with Kato unijoiner feeder wires and had the same exact result - nothing. I considered calling NCE direct but figured I would try here first. Thanks!

edit: This was RESOLVED by ensuring I was using the included FLAT cable with RJ-12 plugs and NOT the coiled cable with RJ-12 plugs. Switching wires made it work immediately -- apparently the flat cable can power the track but the coiled cable cannot. Thanks all!

Been following the posts on Microsoft NCE and I'm curious how many of the MSPs here are planning to recommend to their customers to buy direct from Microsoft? If you are, are you planning on having the customer buy support cases ad-hoc as needed? Are you thinking of selectively telling some of your bigger customers, where the financial risk is greater in an annual contract, to go direct and hang on to the smaller quantities that you might be able to float without going out of business? What are you doing as an MSP to respond to Microsoft's "New Commerce Experience"? With the nuances of NCE around license management, it feels like there's multiple considerations and questions to work through.

I'd be most interested in hearing from the MSP community how you're grappling with these questions:

1. Do you feel there's any value in customer education about license management related to NCE?
2. How will you ensure customers accustomed to decreasing their M365 licenses without penalty adapt to the new minimum license levels?
3. How many customers do you just plan to keep on month-to-month vs. the 1 or 3 year lock-in?
4. Are you adapting your team or processes to more actively manage or pay attention to M365 licensing?
5. Is NCE making you consider changing your CSP licensing distributor?

Appreciate whatever thoughts you have to share about how you are grappling with this!
