A list of puns related to "Myrmecologists"
The Myrmecologist is an NPC that will move in after the player has successfully conquered an Anthill. She sells ant-related goods, such as~
- Myrmechitin Armor: This armor set is unlocked when the player successfully conquers any 2 of the 3 Ant Hills. The set allows the player to instigate an Ant Siege without using pheromones. There are 3 colors for this set, each one corresponding to a different color ant.
The Myrmechitin Set is made up of
- Myrmechitin Head gives 2 defense
- Myrmechitin Thorax gives 4 defense
- Myrmechitin Gaster gives 2 defense
The full set grants the player a total of 12 defense and +15% damage when in an Ant Hill.
- [Black/Brown/Red] Ant Queen Molasses
- Ant Eggs
- Formica Sprayer: Early mage weapon. Sprays Formic Acid. Deals a base 3 magic damage without any modifiers. Uses 25 mana.
- Trapjaw: Early summoner weapon. Sentry that deals 6 summon damage/s. When an enemy touches the trigger hairs, the Trapjaw sentry will instantly close in on any enemy besides bosses, minibosses, and enemies that can travel through blocks. When closed on an enemy, it will stay closed until the enemy is defeated. After defeating an enemy, it takes 5 seconds to reset its jaws. Uses 5 mana to summon
- Formicarium
- Pheremones
She loves the Jungle, likes the Forest, is neutral to the Desert, and hates the Snow Biome. She loves the jungle to to the real life abundance of ant species in tropical areas. She hates the Snow Biome because most ants cannot tolerate cold weather.
She loves the Zoologist and the Dryad, likes the Guide, and hates the Demolitionist and Arms Dealer.

so i am trying to track down and study the reproductive behavior of leptomyrmex but the invertebrate zoologists ive been talking to have different ideas.
ive heard that lepto's dispersed like normal except the queen doesn't have wings, ive also heard the multiply by colony fission. anyone able to shed some light on this?
i would like to obtain a lepto queen to study its founding stages, what would be my best method of searching? or if they do multiply via colony fission would it make it more difficult.
i know how to identify a queen if it stands still long enough, larger abdomen, a ridge on the upper throax, darker orange head and a wider v-shaped head but queens seem to be elusive.
any help would be appreciated greatly, thank you!
Side: zombies
Class: scientist

Primary weapon: fire ant blaster
Weapon type: close range weapon that leaves swarms of fire ants to damage plants (like alien flower)
Damage: 45
Swarm damage: 3
Swarm time: 2 seconds
Legendary mode: swarm mode
Effects: damage increase and larger swarm radius (as much as a zombie stink cloud)
Damage: 60
Swarm damage: 8

I have been trying to make this concept for a while as myrmecology (the study of ants) is what I do in real life!
I have noticed that people say online that alcohol kills ants (it doesn't kill them), but I tried it and it doesn't work without a combination of other ingredients (which is another online recommendation). I only had 50% isopropyl rubbing alcohol on hand so I used that (by itself). But what I noticed is that a droplet of 50% rubbing alcohol puts the ant into a hibernated state until the alcohol+water has evaporated. This evaporation process just takes a just few minutes. A droplet of menthol oil however kills ants within 10 seconds. But after the alcohol and water has evaporated the ants wake up and start moving. It starts to clean it's antenna and then it wanders around in a tranquil state.
Here is the behavior of a normal ant:
Here is the behavior of an ant soaked by a droplet of alcohol:
So I have two theories: (1) I hear that rubbing alcohol draws out liquids from things and alcohol dissolves the waxy protective layer that may cover an insect's exoskeleton. If these are facts, then perhaps the small amount of 50% rubbing alcohol dissolved the protector wax layer before extracting moisture from the body, including the eyes. Basically, the ant went blind.
My second theory is (2) isopropyl rubbing alcohol can be used to get drunk. Since a "little black ant (california species)" is so small, it may absorb alcohol more easily. Ants do in fact get drunk when they eat fermented fruits, so why not when they are soaked in a form of alcohol.
(3) a combination of both
(4) something else entirely
Myrmecology is basically a branch of Entomology that deals with ants.
Ants are a model for how simple neural systems can keep track of sophisticated things. With relatively few brain cells, they can do what amounts to a complex task.
Not to mention ants themselves are ecologically important. By understanding how they behave means we can control that behavior in a way that benefits the ecosystem optimally. There could be many benefits for that.
There's also potential for designing of systems such as robots that work together to perform larger tasks.
Recently we've been studying how ants count their paces. We've found that ants actually count how many steps it takes to reach an object. The question is, how do they do this? Counting is actually practically unheard of in insects as their brains aren't supposed to handle the concept of linear numerical value.
So, feel free to AMA about our research our ants in general.
Hello there,
I am currently writing an oddball sci-fi novel and a lot of it revolves around ants. I was hoping someone could PM me or something so I can ask a few questions about ant communication and the types of settings and methods used for ant studies.
Thanks!
Edit: ok so I'll go ahead and post some of my main questions here!
I know that ants communicate mainly through various scents and I know that has to do with molecule chirality. I was hoping someone could explain the specific mechanism of ant communication. Any info on that would be really helpful.
Also, I'd like to know common methods for the study of ants? Like settings, is it all done under a microscope or are any studies largely done on a colony scale? Is there an area of myrmecology that is more relevant right now? Any links to major studies would be really appreciated as well!
Thanks so much!
I know there not much to go from that image but their behaviour may help in narrowing it down.
I was doing a university project on these ants and was wondering if any redditors might be able to help?
Location: Portugal, Algarve
Terrain: Found near coastline on somewhat sandy/earthy dunes
Behaviour:
These black ants would be carrying small flower petals to their nest. What we were told was that those petals were from a Cistus bush (looked a lot like Halimium calycinum aka Yellow Rock Rose).
Other ants would come back out of the nest with dried versions of those petals and would discard of them at the entrance. (you can see it on the first picture.. the small yellow dried 'bits' on the edges of the cotton pad - and all scattered around if you look closely)
Some ants were also coming out with small rocks (excavating perhaps?) and dropping them around the entrance to the nest. This was actually the way we would spot nests as it creates a distinctive semi circle mound of small particles which stood out against the environment. (you can also see this on the first picture, the cotton pads are on top of the semi circle mound, also one of the ants on top of cotton pad is dropping a little rock)
We were thinking of some sort of leaf-cutter ant but we couldn't go any further. We do have an individual which we intend to look at once we get access to a microscope but I thought perhaps they might be so particular someone might know of them (also thought this might be interesting to share :))?
p.s. the link to the ant photo is just to give a rough idea of what they looked like. Also, the cotton pad was part of our "experiment". For those who are interested we were looking at the foraging behaviour of ants and whether they followed the optimal foraging theory
Edit: Cheers guys I'll check myrmecos.net :)

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
