Mickey's Christmas Carol Puns

Was watching Mickey's Christmas Carol on Disney+ and was pretty shocked by how dark it got with the final ghost. Miss the days when Disney followed the Don Bluth philosophy that children can handle anything as long as there's a happy ending.

Mickey's Christmas Carol: Show Mickey Mouse in a cemetery mourning the death of his adorable young son immediately followed by Pete sending Scrooge to Hell.

Disney: Perfect

The first time I watched it as a small child in 1983, I swear I distinctly remember >!Scrooge looking down into the flaming coffin and seeing himself lying in it just before he plunged down toward it!<. Of course, that's not what I see now, just flames coming from it. Was the scene redrawn because it was considered too scary, or am I just misremembering?
