A list of puns related to "Leonard Mccoy"
New to Starfinder and I have a player wanting to make a Leonard McCoy character. What would you guys recommend for theme/class combo? Thx!
I want to try and replicate a starfleet officer-ish look ingame and since i'm a med main and hes the chief medical officer in the tos cast, i decided why not use him as reference? which looks better/closer to the reference image? a. dead of night with team spirit, or b. stock scourge of the sky

I grew up on TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I watched a few episodes of the original growing up, the classics, you know- Tribbles, Space Seed, City on the Edge of Forever- but I never sat down and watched TOS all the way through. So a few months ago, bored, in lockdown, I thought "Why not now?"
So here's the thing. Everyone talks about how great Spock is- and he is! Nimoy is a great actor, Spock's a great character. And Shatner, for all his flaws, is a compelling and effective lead. But the beating heart of this show is DeForrest Kelley as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. He's the secret sauce that makes the show work. He's genuinely funny, even when the lines he's delivering aren't. Like pretty much every Trek doctor that followed him, he's deeply committed to reducing suffering and compassionate to a fault, but his compassion is at odds with his prickly, curmudgeonly shell. His bickering, old-married-couple dynamic with Spock is the best relationship on the show. And Shatner is at his best in the scenes where Bones reminds Kirk of his humanity.
There are many times on this show when it feels like Spock and Bones are like Kirk's shoulder angel and shoulder devil, only instead of good and evil they are espousing logic and compassion, each of which taken to their furthest extreme can be dangerous, and Kirk must find a way to toe the line to solve the problem. Every Trek show has its own similar dynamic, but imo none of them have replicated it successfully.
As a person who until recently most encountered this trio through their pop-culture imprint, it saddens me that it's greatest member often seems to be its least appreciated. I see so much love for Kirk and Spock out there, but not enough love for Bones. He turned in a hell of a performance, and I genuinely don't think the show works without him.
Iβve been watching more of TOS again after taking a little break from Trek in general. I saw TOS as a kid bit only random episodes here and there. Kirk was cool, Spock weirdly interesting, but I hated McCoy. The uncool, scrawny, cranky, old man. βBones.β Smh. He was the stick in the mud.
After watching the TOS films and more of TOS, I love the character of McCoy! Remember that episode where theyβre on the nice planet where they start seeing samurai, planes, pistols, and tigers? And a female crew member kind of has eyes for McCoy and yet heβs the southern gentleman, unlike Chekhov who seems kind of skeezy when heβs pressing up on the women.
Or βCity at the Edge of Foreverβ? There was way more chemistry between him and that girl than her and Kirk.
McCoy represents humanity, passion, Spock represents cold logic, and Kirk connects the two and makes decisions based on both those opposites.
DeForest Kelly was a great actor, and I find myself relating to McCoy more and more. In fact, thereβs not a scene in the films I donβt like.
In TMP, he gets called back to duty, and apparently they just beamed him up from a vacation of free love and disco.
In ST: III, when he finds out what Spock sos to him, and his response, I lolβd for real.
The scene where Spockβs brother (not canon imo) has McCoy relive his fatherβs last moments...a powerful scene.
Iβm glad he was he one to pass the torch in the TNG pilot. They really dialed up the southern accent, which was jarring to me, but it worked for that scene, to better contrast Dataβs sedate, robotic calm, with a very human, and passionate accent and demeanor. I donβt know if that was Kelly or the writerβs idea, but genius.
Iβll have to check out more of his work, but I just wanted to put this out there. Amazing actor, amazing character.
How long does it take to find out they are actually in the Bad Place?
Been in a weirdly rough argument with the Wife about if Joanna McCoy exists or not.
I maintain she does because she was written into the writers journals and established by D.C Fontana and Deforest Kelly She was to be Kirk's love interest and create a new dynamic between Bones and McCoy.
But oh my tribbles, does the Mrs. disagree and says it's not canon, "it never aired so it doesn't matter." I counter TAS mentioned it in 'The Survivor' to which I've been fervently corrected, TAS doesnt exist because "Gene never acknowledged it." Of course she has no problem accepting Caitians or other TAS species exist.
Anyhow, we would like to know your thoughts on this, does Joanna McCoy exist in the Trek Universe or is she just a failed idea never introduced?
Tl;dr Wife says Joanna McCoy shouldnt be a thing. Was never canon.
I say, she's not canon but exists the Trekverse as she is in enough material to exist and was mentioned in TAS.

Evidence: In Star Trek XI, McCoy can be seen biting his knuckles nervously, in a familiar gesture. I had to applaud Karl Urban for doing his homework, and then on a rewatch of TOS I realized why I found it familiar.
It was a gesture made by the salt creature of "The Man Trap" when it was hungry, while in McCoy's form.
So this means that in that universe, the real McCoy (sorry) must have encountered the creature and already been killed and replaced by it, and this dangerous shapeshifting monster is now at large in Kirk's inner circle!!!!

Looking for a new, unopened or gently used/displayed only QMx "Bones" McCoy figure. Willing to pay but not through the nose. Thanks!
"My God, man - drilling holes in his head's not the answer. The artery must be repaired. Now put away your butcher knives and let me save this patient before it's too late!"
Hey all, I have been in the Reserves for about two years now. I have recently been thinking about going active so one of the sergeants at my unit suggested ADOS orders so I could get an idea if I really wanted to go active. I am 92y (Supply Specialist) and I am also certified to be an armorer. I was wondering if any of you guys had any advice on what I should do?
