A list of puns related to "Lenaia"
Hey y'all! Know some of us have already begun celebrating this festival, or might have already done their shopping for the weekend, but wanted to share some recipes I enjoy for Lenaia!
These are all the recipes of others, but here's one of mine, Brie Bites! You'll need:
Preheat your oven to 350
Unroll the dough, and spread pesto on each triangle. Then, place a slice of ham over the whole triangle. Then place an eighth or a sixteenth of Brie on the wide part of the triangle, and top with a sliver of green apple, another sliver on the part without the brie.
Bake on a cookie sheet with parchment paper, til golden brown, checking frequently. A bit of belted brie is normal (and tasty after the other rolls have been taken off and served.
Hi y'all! Happy Lenaia! If you have some time today or tomorrow, this is a Dionysian festival to mark the first shakings of Spring (I'm aware that in at least the US, a massive snowstorm is expected tomorrow in the Northeast. Remember this timing originated in Greece). This festival is referred to as the Lenaia, and has traditionally been celebrated with dramatic performances, hiking, and wine. With Covid hampering stage plays and the weather
We have a post up over on r/Dionysus with some of the basics of the festival! If you're interested feel free to pop by and check out! Kala Lenaia!
Offered incense and wine to Bacchus.
Then celebrated with some mulled wine warmed in a sauce pan (because it was below freezing and it warmed my belly).
Then decided to watch some Shakespeare. Have you seen "MacBeth" with Denzel Washington? The visuals are freaky. It's almost trance-inducing in places, if you're a tranceworker. I highly recommend.

It was a great night!
This is my first Lenaia with Dionysus and my first pagan holiday in general. I've been a witch for 2 years, began seriously studying paganism about 4 months ago when he reached out, and I've worked with Dionysus for almost 2 weeks, since the day of my 18th birthday. These two weeks have been so eye opening and freeing. I'm so lucky to have his presence in my life.
This past week has been alot of honoring him, mostly by playing violin, singing for him, and putting grape oil on my wrists. Today was the actual celebration for me. I read a Dionysian hymn, sang for him, and listened to my favorite theatrical classical compostions with him. I will most likely also play violin for him again later tonight and finish it off with offering him grape juice( I'm not old enough for wine lol)
Feeling his presence so clearly for the first time made me really accept this and cement it in my mind. I was raised southern baptist and I still had some latent Christianity and guilt leading over into my pagan life. This solidified everything for me. I haven't felt an ounce of guilt today, I've felt contentment and felt self assured in what I was doing.
I hope everyone has a great celebration! Happy Lenaia! ๐๐ท
u/Alkibiades415 said in this post that the performances in the city's Theater of Dionysus occurred during...
>The "City" Dionysia (around the vernal equinox) and the Lenaia (in the month of Gamelion, roughly January). That is--there were not performances every day. These were special occasions and were a part of larger, week-long holidays."
So there was a week of performances in January, and another in March? And then the theaters just sat empty? That seems like a waste of expensive infrastructure. Did anything else go on in the theater?
Greetings all! A blessed and happy Lenaia to you! This is a festival often reckoned on the 12th thru 14th of Gamelion, though Hellenion has this as the 15th through 17th of January, while the calendar I'm following has it as from the 13th through 15th. Others celebrate this as a one day or four day festival, so there's plenty of wiggle room.
What is Lenaia?
Lenaia is a wildly-variant festival which takes many different forms. This is partly because written sources on the original festival are limited, and also partly because this festival is open to, and sometimes forces, innovation. It comes at a rather liminal time - many people in the West have already over-splugered for Christmas and New Year's, and the holiday season is supposed to be winding down. For Dionysians, we may have just celebrated Brumalia, Haloa, or the Rural Dionysia within the past few weeks, and we have others like the Anthesteria, the Phallephoria, the Greater Dionysia and the Liberalia coming up.
We know the Ancient Lenaia was a festival which featured Comedic drama competitions, but beyond that, we're not quite sure: the name itself we're not sure whether it comes from a word for wine press or from a word for maenads. There's arguments for this being the birth of Dionysus, a time of welcoming him back to the earth, something to do with the religious mysteries, among various other things.
For most, this festival becomes a way of transitioning: whether it is a prayerful festival for the return of vegetation in the midst of snows, a way of preparing for the Anthesteria in February, or a way of celebrating Dionysus' birth after other, more 'mainstream' celebrations have wound down. It really is what you make it!
How does one celebrate Lenaia?
This varies from practitioner to practitioner. Many people make small pilgrimages, hiking to spots they associate with Dionysus. You may bring sacred objects you wish to use in ritual, and you may also bring food and drink and have a picnic after. You may also wish to mark your path as you go, though some may use colored chalk (I use purple) or inscribe ฯ for Portos, which means door.
These hikes might culminate in picnics at sacred spots, with phallic cakes and champagne or other light, bright and bubbly drinks, like radlers, shandies, or lemo
... keep reading on reddit โกIt started at sundown and I will be celebrating for the next four days. On a personal level I am grateful to keep the festivities going with a 30-40 below windchill and 8-12 inches of snow during that time. I will remain forever humbled honoring Dionysos.
Is anyone celebrating Lenaia tomorrow through Thursday? What are your plans? I'm planning quite the feast and have lots of wine at the ready!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The nurse asked the rabbit, โwhat is your blood type?โ

The doctor says it terminal.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!

Hello there! iโm new to this subreddit and iโve always been interested in dionysus, so i was wondering what are the basics to start worshipping dionysus? are there any celebrations or such? what about altars, are the necessary and do they need specific elements? thanks in advance
We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
Ants donโt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?

Greetings all! A blessed and happy Lenaia to you! This year most people are observing this festival in the last week of January.
What is Lenaia?
Lenaia is the first of Dionysusโ spring festivals. Though many of us may have just celebrated Haloa, Rural Dionysia, or Brumalia a few weeks ago, this is the festival that leads up to Anthesteria. Itโs a very flexible festival, with different people from different paths focusing on things ranging from theatre, to winemaking, to maenadism/trance states, to fertility/wilderness.
When is it?
Hellenion is placing it from the 26th thru the 28th. However others make it a four day festival, some make it a one day festival. Some reckon it a bit earlier, and some move it to the weekend. Celebrate it when it works for you.

Both Hellenion and Baring the Aegis suggest eating, drinking, and being merry, which is almost always a good way to celebrate Dionysusโ festivals. They also suggest seeing plays, but due to the pandemic one may opt to watch movies and musicals on screen at home. This is also a time for dancing and trancing, indeed a reminder to make time for these throughout the year.
