A list of puns related to "Lapplander"
Hello dear Redditors!
Iβm 22 years old and for the first time in my life I am going to travel to a place where it will be extremely cold - mostly Kiruna in Sweden (I hope you donβt mind that :-) ) and Iβll probably cross the border in Norway too. I read that this sub is really active so I wanted to ask for advice here. I Iβll be going at the end of December and there will be temperatures as low as -30degrees celsius. I have zero experience dealing with low temperatures - like I never even went skiing or something like that.
To be honest Iβm extremely afraid. Recently I just read a lot about injuries or deaths related to freezing and stuff (and you know the more you google stuff like that the worse it gets) and since I have zero experience with such temperatures I am worried to a point where Iβm thinking about cancelling the trip. Like imagine accidentally getting your feet wet because some snow got into your shoe and then it freezes and you need to amputate your feet or whateverβ¦
I wonβt be wandering alone in the Lappland and I there will always be people around me but I am still so afraid of accidents like freezing but realizing too late or something stupid like taking my phone out to take a pic but losing my fingers for it. I donβt even know if phones are usable at those temperatures or if I need special cases for it or something.
So I really need advice and help from you people who are experienced with such extreme temperatures. How can I prepare myself for that trip? Iβm talking mostly about what type of clothing I need exactly - but if you have other tips, tricks or advice please tell me.
I can tell my normal The North Face puffer I casually wear in my everyday life in Germany wonβt be enough for that weather. What type of jackets do I really need?
Also is there any shoes/boots you can recommend? Are those 6-inch Timberlands fine or is it that type of product that looks functional but in reality itβs just a fashion item with no real use in extreme conditions?
Anything else in terms of gloves, socks, underwear, hats or whatever? I heard you should use materials that donβt get wet right? So are all my wool/cotton gloves and socks and hats useless? Any brand/product you can recommend?
I might sound dumb but Iβm slightly panicking thinking about being badly prepared and losing my fingers, feet or ears there. I often tend to be badly prepared for lots of things and activities. Iβve done lots of stupid stuff in my life and I have lots of respect
