A list of puns related to "Karl Jaspers"
The advice of the Stoic, to withdraw to our own freedom in the independence of the mind, is not adequate. The Stoic’s perception of man’s weakness was not radical enough. He failed to see that the mind in itself is empty, dependent on what is put into it, and he failed to consider the possibility of madness. The Stoic leaves us without consolation; the independent mind is barren, lacking all content. He leaves us without hope, because his doctrine affords us no possibility of inner transformation, no fulfillment through self-conquest in love, no hopeful expectation of the possible (Way to Wisdom, 1951).
What do you think about such critique?
What are Karl Jaspers's metaphysical opinions about meaning of life and humanity?which books would you suggest answering this question?
I don't know if it has been translated into English but there is a book with notes from Karl Jaspers on Martin Heidegger (Title: "Notizen zu Martin Heidegger," published by Hans Saner) that were compiled by Jaspers over several decades.
The criticism from Jaspers regarding Heidegger is that his philosophy is "Gottlos, Weltlos, Kommunikationslos" (godless, world-less, without-communication).
I am curious if someone knows if Heidegger was aware of Jasper's criticism and, if, if there was any reply to this by Martin Heidegger? And, if not, if there are any suggestions how to judge this criticism?
This quote from "Way to Wisdom" has left my head scratching: "Freedom and God are inseparable. Why? This I know: in my freedom I am not through myself but am given to myself; for I can miss being myself and I cannot force my being free. The will does not choose between good and evil; it is its choice, rather, that makes it good or evil." What is being "through" or "given to" oneself? What is it to miss being oneself, exactly?
