A list of puns related to "Janet Jackson"
Live Discussion Thread for Season 30 Episode 6, Monday, October 18th.
Janet Jackson night! Here's the lineup, not in order:
Dancing with the Stars Week 8 Dance Off Pairings:
So, I saw a post on Reddit ( TIL that in 2004 Justin Timberlake ripped off a piece of singer Janet Jackson's clothing on stage, exposing her breast. In relatiation Janet's music was removed from MTV, VH1 and radio. Her invitation to the Grammys was also rescinded. Meanwhile, Justin attended and also picked up some awards.****) and was really excited people were going to be having a discussion about the absolute absurdity that Janet Jackson basically had her career ruined because a man (Justin Timberlake) ripped a piece of her costume off exposing her breast during the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2004.
Obviously, I'm a man, but it was always bonkers to me how she was the only one who faced any real consequences for the event when there were undoubtedly numerous men who had a part in the "scandal", to say nothing of the fact that a nipple isn't some f***ing scandal. It's just a nipple, people.
But really, that's not what people are discussing in that thread. Most of the comments are jokes, music related, or how people feel old that there exist people who don't remember the outrage this caused. I had to scroll down a very long way to find anyone even frame this event in feminist terms, and even when they do the conversation just devolves into non-important mindlessness.
To me, that post and ensuing conversation so perfectly encapsulates the need for feminism. The obvious violence against women's bodies depicted in the halftime show, how a woman's body was vilified for the audacity to have nipples, how women are held accountable for the harm committed against them by men, and how men can escape all accountability for their actions when it comes to harming women.
I absolutely admire the hell out of women who somehow, day after day, find the strength and resolve to deal with this bullshit. But more than that, I'm so f***ing sorry that you have to. It may not be perfectly rational, but I'm so angry right now having read through the conversation on that post.
That event all but blacklisted women from performing at the Super Bowl for years, as tired retread men were paraded out as the safe, family-friendly alternative to potentially seeing a woman's nipple. It almost singlehandedly brought about the idea of a 5 second delay for live events in television. Allegedly, this event was the impetus for YouTube (so people could objectify a woman's body without consent). Who knew one breast could change the course of entertainment history in the US that m

As the title says, what are some great hard rocking songs by R&B/Soul artists? The more obscure the better!
Thanks!
#339 Janet Jackson- Rhythm Nation 1814
I heard a great quote about Janet Jackson while Micheal Jackson made albums to just load them with hit singles Janet actually made fully realized albums. Which I think is so true especially with the two albums she has on this list. Janet had it rough since the infamous superbowl performance in 2001. Which was one of the most overhyped conspiracies in the history of popular culture. It is a perfect example of how the media can destroy someone's reputation by making something as silly as a “wardrobe malfunction".they really canceled Janet and her career never recovered. Rhythm Nation was her second album with the great producing team of Jerry Jam and Terry Lewis. The album deals with many social topics of the day. You can definitely see how this album influenced many black artists in the decades that followed. The album has a harder industrial feel than most pop albums of that timeout it still has a funky groovy feel to it. Thank god it doesn’t have that cheesy production that plagued some albums released in the 80’s. The album is loaded with classic pop jams of the early 90’s. It captualted Janet into super stardom. The album stayed on the charts for two years which is an incredible feat for a pop album. If you never checked out this album I would recommend a listen. It has surprisingly aged very well. It is an example of how pop music can be socially conscious and be successful.

I'm in Australia. Our commercial media is horrendous, much of which has been infected with climate denial by virtue of being owned/influenced by Murdoch.
I happened to turn on the idiot box while making a coffee and saw the Today Show (NBC) which reaches us from the US with I guess a 12 hour delay. The anodyne presenters seem like perfectly nice people and of course present what the producers/network want, but I was appalled by the 'news' which included:
To be fair there was a brief mention of climate change in the US weather segment (6th hottest year on record etc) and grim news about starvation in Afghanistan but this was tempered with PSAs from the TSA along the lines of 'Don't punch anyone in the face on a plane or in an airport'
What will it take before the MSM is reporting daily on the climate catastrophe, loss of species, loss of soil, loss of tree cover, poisons in the eco system and all the issues with which this sub is all too familiar?

I'm pretty sure it was Dodger as it was a year or 2 before we started going to Jack Murphy in San Diego. So '80 or '81.
First, I love Janet Jackson, and I really enjoy Justin Timberlake. Both are people I’d love to meet, and both seem like genuinely nice people.
On to my argument:
Like many of you, I saw it live on tv. To this day, I cannot be convinced it was an accident. When the “malfunction” happened, Justin’s didn’t rush to help cover her back up and Janet didn’t rush to cover herself. In addition, she was wearing tape over her nipple in an ‘X’ shape. I’m curious, why would someone wear tape over their nipple?
Some could argue the costume was uncomfortable for the nips and so she wanted to protect them. Ok - I’ll bite: then why wouldn’t she just wear a bandaid like runners do?
“Maybe it was double-sided tape to hold her costume in place” I can hear many of you saying, Ok, I’ll bite on that too - why was the surface area of tape used for coverage so small, and why did the tape remain in place instead of pulling off a bit & dangling too?
Edit: additionally, the song “Rock your body” by Justin was being performed, and at the precise moment of “malfunction”, the lyrics were “better have you naked by the end of this song”.
IMO: this was a choreographed publicity stunt that got the wrong reaction and everyone involved in the set up bailed on the intentional action by calling it a “malfunction”.
