This performance features Luigi Alva as Ferrando, Hermann Prey as Guglielmo, Christa Ludwig as Dorabella, Gundula Janowitz as Fiordiligi, and Walter Berry as Don Alfonso.
Modern opera audiences take for granted the repertoire available to us from the latter-half of the 20th century to today. The repertoire is rich in variety, regularly availing us of operas as disparate as Monteverdi's "Orfeo" and George Benjamin's "Written on Skin" within the same week during a typical modern season.
This was not the case prior to 1945, especially in regards to the operas of Mozart. Only "Don Giovanni" really fit the prerequisites necessary to be included in the category of "Grand Opera," and it was the only opera performed regularly outside of Salzburg and Vienna. Le Nozze di Figaro, while considered a masterpiece was more rarey performed during Grand Opera seasons, and was usually relegated to small houses. Cosi fan Tutte was a rarity that few had heard.
Such was the case for Cosi in 1922 when it received its United States premiere. Don Giovanni had received its Met premiere during the inaugural season of 1883, Le Nozze di Figaro during the 1894-95 season and Die Zauberfloete in 1900. The production of Cosi fan Tutte was a briliant success and became one of the crowns of the Gatti-Casazza era.

Review of Richard Aldrich in The New York Times
The last of the promises for the present operatic season made by the management was fulfilled last evening when Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte" was performed. It was something of a historic occasion; for it was, so far as can be ascertained now, the first production in this country. And while "Cosi fan Tutte" cannot be ranked with the greatest masterpieces of the composer, it is a work of enough importance for its first American performance, 132 years after it was first heard in Vienna, to be set down as a notable event. The large audience that heard the performance was evidently amused, interested, beguiled by the thrice admirable performance. There was much applause, much calling of the principals before the curtain.
The performance was delightful, refreshing. And it may be

Onthisday, the 22nd of August 1818 Grand Duke Karl Ludwig of Baden signed the new Constitution of Baden into law. This was one of the most advanced constitutions of its day. The citizens of Baden were granted habeas corpus, freedom of property, religion, equality before the law and the removal of feudal structures. The constitution established a parliament with material involvement in legislation and an independent judiciary.
By modern standards the constitution leaves much to be desired. The King has the exclusive right to propose laws and the nobility had a de-facto veto against rules they disliked.
However, this has to be seen in the context of the times. We are in the year 1818, a time of conservative backlash after the French Revolution. The Congress of Vienna had brought back conservative monarchy and a year later the Carlsbad Decrees implement censorship, ban liberal professors and student organisations. The German states granted constitutions after about 1814, the vast majority of which consisted of no more than some procedural rules without granting any rights to their citizens.
The background to this more liberal approach may be found in part in the Grand Ducal family, one of whom had married the stepdaughter of Napoleon. But probably more important were the dismal state of finances and economy after the Napoleonic wars raising fear of revolution. In 1815 the citizens of Heidelberg led by the law professor Christoph R.D. Martin made a request to the Grand Duke to call a parliament.
Baden furthermore had to integrate a large number of smaller principalities that they had received in the reorganisation of Germany in 1803. Karl Friedrich Nebenius who led the development of the constitution combined political instincts, administrative skills and a good understanding of economics. He devised the constitution as both an instrument to integrate the new population as well as creating conditions for economic growth.
The Constitution of 1818 did not remain unchallenged. The new Grand Duke, Ludwig tried to wind back the clock, manipulated elections and revised the constitution in 1825. Once Ludwig had passed the baton to the next Grand Duke, in 1830, the constitution was reinstated and far reaching liberal reforms attempted.
Until the revolution of 1848, the parliament (Staendeversammlung) of Baden was the place for t

During the COVID-19 outbreak, many footballers who earn their daily bread abroad have returned to their homeland, where they train according to the training plans provided by their club. The goalkeeper of the Estonian U-21 team Karl Jakob Hein, who plays for the Arsenal football club in London, also temporarily returned to Estonia. The goalkeeper continues to be happy about his choice of joining the London club.
Born in the small town of PΓ΅lva (Pop: 5 458 as of 2018) but raised in the Kalamaja district of Tallinn, the goalkeeper officially entered the pitch for the first time at the age of 8, playing in the Estonian Youth Championship, belonging to the ranks of JK Loo. βIf I remember correctly, the team was officially JK Loo, but that was the name of the men's team. The young players played under the name FC Tigers. We trained in Tallinn, at the Schnell and Wismar stadiums,β he recalls. Hein started playing in goal by his second or third tournament.
At 18 years old, Hein takes a look back on his career and claims that he started dreaming about playing for big foreign clubs in the 2nd grade. "I remember that we once put the teams of FC Tigers and JK Tabasalu together, went to a tournament in Latvia and I got the title of the best goalkeeper, because I saved multiple penalties."
Hein changed clubs in 2015 on his own initiative. "It was also the year when I went from playing on a small sized pitch to a bigger one. I also considered joining JK Tabasalu, because I had good synergy with them based on different tournaments, but in the end I decided in favor of NΓ΅mme United, because Mart Poom was waiting there,β he explains. Hein remembered Poom from his farewell game against Portugal in 2009. At that time, Hein was only 7 years old. Over the years, in addition to Poom, his heroes included Sergei Pareiko, Manuel Neuer, Edwin van der Sar and Iker Casillas.
The trump card: playing with feet
Hein, who joined FC NΓ΅mme United in 2015, remembers that he went to the stadium with his brother a lot, and playing with his feet, which he practiced both individually and in FC Tigers' trainings, turned out well for him as a goalkeeper. "We had to beat the mannequins during training in NΓ΅mme and I was completely satisfied with my results," he recalls. βI was strong at pl
