A list of puns related to "Irminsul"
As an Anglo Saxon piece of history, iβm interested in what it actually is
Kokomi, being one of the (if not THE) best healers in game, will surely be in demand in this event.
Hey, so after seeing a dormant Irminsul build Lucid thought was strong for Utgard I went to test its expansion but for the life of me I can't do more than like 15 provinces by turn 12 with only one AI nation in a big map. I consider 20 by turn 12 to be the minimum of what should be an acceptable expansion for a nation.
The pretender build is the Irminsul with nature 7 and astral 4, regen, magic weapons, 9 dominion, 0 order, 3 sloth, 3 cold, 3 growth, 3 luck, and 1 magic. Idea is that after year 1 I can very quickly mass Gamhirdings and start tearing into people.
Does anyone have any tips for how to expand with a build like this?
The myths of Charlemagne, known as the Matter of France or chansons de geste, were the most popular fireside tales outside of the Bible in Europe from the 13th-19th centuries. We still have over 2,300 songs about Roland, Olivier, Holger Danske, Rinaldo and Maugis and many others who were considered historical figures for ages.
The documented campaigns by Charlemagne against the Saxons are his most brutal, even more so than his invasions into Al-Andalus (Spain) to fight the Moors. At the Massacre of Verden he had 4,500 Saxons executed. The Irminsul was destroyed in 772. It was a 30 year campaign to Christianize the pagans that he was never able to finish.
My intent with my Charlemagne stories is to try to place the mythical figures as close to historical reality as possible while still allowing for the miracles and magic that fascinated our ancestors. Please let me know what you think!

It was a great day,
The sun was up and only a few clouds were in the sky. The earth was green and occasionally shivered in the subtle winds. The sun was gentle and took care not to oppress those below, else the clouds got thicker and blot it out entirely.
Yven liked days like these.
The lass and her shepherd friends had decided to play a few games. The sheep were content to stay still and munch on grass. Surely it wouldnβt hurt to venture around and play tag?
Yven had the unfortunate luck of being it.
After she finished counting down, she opened her eyes and looked around. Ake had probably hid himself in the flock of sheep behind her. Ahead of her, Bynjar and Fritjof had probably fled to the forest. There were also a few others who probably fled to a collection of old homes used for storage. However, she couldnβt get them all and decided Bynjar and Fritjof would be her first victims.
And so she ran into the forest - the one the Spawn of Vitra reserved for only their own. Since she was a spawn, she had the permission to bring all of her friends here. It was only right, with it being so close to the grazing grounds. No one would notice anyways.
She called out their names, hoping to provoke a noise or movement. Minutes dragged on and slowly turned to half an hour. Surely she hadnβt gotten herself lost, she thought. She decided to retrace her steps, hoping to get back to the clearing in good time.
On her way back, she spotted a tall structure she hadnβt seen on her way there. It had the shapes of a massive tree, but it also appeared to be a building of sorts, on part of what appeared to be a clearing at its base. It was surrounded by sparkling waters and boasted only one way to approach it.
Curious to get a closer look, Yven slowly inched towards the tree. Where others usually fled at the first sign of danger, she decided to confront it. She was a Spawn of Vitra and would prove herself no coward. That was her intention until she saw something that made her pale skin turn sickly.
A demon guarded the entrance of the tree.
Lately I've seen a few posts here and on related boards featuring symbols that originate from Nazi Germany: The so-called "Black Sun" and a symbol that supposedly represents an Irminsul. Since the posters seem to be under the illusion that these symbols are 'historically pagan', I think it might be time to try to clear up a few facts about both symbols. Both of these have pretty solid Wikipedia articles, which I encourage you to read, and I'll provide a link to them after my summary.
See these in the wild? Don't get too angryβthe wearer might have simply also heard it was a "pagan symbol" from a vendor or whatever, so please don't jump to any conclusions.
Hello, all! Recently I saw some discussion here about Wilhelm Teudt's "Irminsul" symbol, a symbol you may encounter here or there on the topic of Germanic mythology.
At the time, I was working on a new entry for the Kvasir Symbol Database, which I've now completed. You can read it here: https://www.mimisbrunnr.info/ksd-wilhelm-teudts-irminsul-symbol
You may be surprised from where the symbol stems and who was involved with its development and its use. If you have any questions, suggestions, or corrections, please let me know. Enjoy!
Since germanic is my favorite religion I've played quite a few games as them. Consequently, I've gotten the "Irminsul destroyed" so many times, that I know the text by heart. And I've always found it frustrating that there were no special events if a germanic ruler takes paderborn back. Maybe make it so the event is triggered if the site is retaken before the MA mallus expires. I've event managed to capture the pope once and blot him in a "you burn our sacred tree we burn down your pope" kind of revenge, and even that felt hallow, since there was no special text for it. The boost from it didn't even cancel the Irminsul malus. I guess the tree had more value than the pope.
#Irminsul
####Appearance
A split in the trunk of this strange tree reveals a swirling magical portal to an unknown destination.
####CR 17/ MR 7
#####Alignment: CN (Varies)
#####Size: Gargantuan
####Special Abilities
#####Planar Portal
Within the split of an irminsulβs trunk swirls a large planar portal, a permanent gate that links one plane to another. An irminsul controls whether or not specific creatures can pass through its portal, which grants entrance to a specific location on the linked plane. Those attempting to breach a barred portal must succeed at a DC 26 Fortitude save or be ejected and teleported to a random location on the current plane. If the trespasser successfully saves, it takes 6d6 points of damage and is sickened for 1 minute. The DC for this save is Wisdom-based. Mythic characters can expend uses of Mythic Power to forcefully pass through the gate, lowering the DC of the saving throw by 5 for each use of Mythic Power expended in this fashion.
####Ecology
######Environment: Any
According to legend, primordial gods seeded the multiverse with the irminsuls, powerful and intelligent tree-like beings that bind all their worlds together by their roots. At one time, these beings were plentiful, and prized for their knowledge and mystic properties. But powerful creatures hacked them to the ground because they believed irminsulsβ wood had special qualities or sought to protect themselves from whatever lay beyond the strange portals.
Every irminsul is bound to a specific plane. The bound plane determines the creatureβs alignment, the nature of its regeneration, and the languages it knows. Sometimes irminsuls have special abilities based on the planes they are linked to. The sample irminsul is bound to the primal land of fey.

Origin
Irminsul is a pillar sacred to Saxon (Germanic) pagans. Its purpose is still in question, but it usually was one of the first things destroyed by invaders.

... keep reading on reddit β‘So I captured Ulm and killed their Irminsul...even got the "you killed our god" message. I didn't take this "threat" so seriously because they were pretty much out of it. HUGE mistake.
It could be a bug, but I'm new to this game so maybe there was a spell or power I haven't learned yet...but this motherfucking tree and his three motherfucking bears are back from the dead and sieging my the city. I have 200+ troops inside but whenever I break out the stupid thing just keeps casting the panic spell and before I can kill it, it just routs my entire army. I had an earth mage so I summoned 2 troll kings and filled all of their magic slots and gave them fire weapons and gave them war troll body guards...one ran away before it even got to the oversized twig and the other hit it i think twice then ran. I think when I first sieged the city it must have been distracted casting buffs on the brave Ulmian defenders so it wasn't casting panic. But now that its only verdelocks and the three bears he has his branches free to make my army run.
Help please.
Oh, this is Dominions Enhanced, and I'm playing MA Xibalba if any of that matters.
Obviously, going strictly off the benefits listed in the text, burning it is most advantageous. More piety, more prestige, more gold. What's not to like?
But at the same time, I'm torn. I really like the symbolism of building a church on the site. It's a way of saying to those that follow the old Germanic ways "it is not you we fight, but rather the evil ways by which you harm one another. We are here not to burn trees, but to heal men." It gives the bishop the opportunity to preach to those who come to the tree.
But at the same time, that image of the sacred things of the old gods being destroyed by the followers of the New God is a powerful image. It says to them in no uncertain terms, "Your gods are but wood and stone. Our God is a living God." It allows for no overlap between Old and New. It's a powerful image... but I can't help but be uncomfortable with its militance. Also, I like trees. :p
What do you prefer? Do you keep it, or do you burn it? Or, perhaps, do you leave that devil tree well alone?
A few days ago I was playing as the pope and some time after the Crusades fired, in around 1100 or so, the region with Irminsul in it was taken from the Catholic Saxony by an also-Catholic West Francia. Long story short, the Catholic Aztec Empire invaded Saxony sometime in the 800's after the Capet dynasty's landowners in France inherited the Empire from the demon child that started the invasion. I got an event about the burning, but instead of the Germanic pagans losing moral authority, Catholicism lost moral authority. For a longass time I had "Burning of Irminsul -10%" in the moral authority thing for Catholicism.
Wish I had taken a screenshot, but it was one of the strangest things I've seen, and makes me wonder if anyone else has had something like this happen.
So I just had a fight against a friend who plays Neo Nectar (standard).
She used Cecilia's skill to check the top 5 and call 2. She called Irminsul and Sylvia. At the time of call, she had 1 grade 0 unit, a plant token.
She uses Sylvia to call another plant token.
My question is, now that she has 2 grade 0 rears, can Irminsul activate and draw her a card?
We ended up ruling: No it wouldn't, because when it was placed there weren't 2 or more grade 0 units on RC and therefor it wouldn't enter the stack.
I just wanted to check this ruling was correct in case it came up again in the future. I don't want to cheat my friend out of a possible advantage due to my lack of ruling knowledge.
Is Yggdrasil the same as the Irminsul and if it is, what tree represents the Yggdrasil and Irminsul and if they are different, what trees are normally assigned to Yggdrasil and the Irminsul?
