Was the Imperial Japanese Navy as hesitant to issue "abandon ship" orders as the Army was to see any unit surrender?

In WWII, Imperial Japanese infantry surrendered at astonishingly low rates compared to any other belligerent force. So was there an equal antipathy to letting sailors fall into Allied hands among the IJN?

I can imagine that the average Japanese sailor would rather not suffer what he perceived to be the shame of surrender, but was this carried out as a matter of policy among the upper ranks? Were doomed vessels ever crewed past any effective point in a sort of "let's go down with the ship" mentality?

Or is it a false equivalence to compare the relative close quarters combat and ease of surrender (and related virulent resistance to the possibility) of land forces to the staggering distances navies fought over in the Pacific?

>##Kantai Kessen / / Naval Battle Doctrine in Review

>The Imperial Japanese Navy through live action, training, and simulation has become perhaps the most experienced force in the world. As part of ongoing naval-training arrangements, every battle fought and every victory won from a plethora of Naval Powers is fed into Fugaku and the broader Chrysanthemum Academy for analysis and post-battle debriefing. Furthermore, thanks to the success of the Chrysanthemum Academy, we have trained or are training over 50% of the world's military officers, including nearly 80% of all naval officers around the globe. As a result, our own training and teaching has been repeatedly battle tested, both in simulation and in live conflict as we are able to witness first-hand the actions taken by those trained by the Academy. This further builds upon the inheritance of the Imperial Japanese Maritime Institutions, and the Naval Academy Institutions of the former United States of America through Kawaii, Koma Kulshan, and Nensho Tochi.

>This has allowed us to observe the mistakes of the Arab League, the foolhardy courage of the Alfheim, the methodical yet passive nature of the Nusantara League, and the actions and traits of many other navies from Russia to New Oceania, California and everyone from the Americas to Europe and Asia. In essence, the Imperial Japanese Navy has managed to refine the theory of Kantai Kessen first described in the early 1910s and [then revitalized](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldpowers/comments/ox79qi/roleplay_think_piece_kaintai_kessen_

#Imperial Japanese Navy: Two Decades Gone and A Thousand More to Go

STATE RELEASE | Issued December 1st, 2042 - 12:00 | Tokyo, Japan

The Imperial Japanese Navy has with the approval of the Imperial General Headquarters and Ministry of Defense, confirmed the beginning of its next major "overhaul" as it officially marks its 22nd Anniversary in the New Era and it's 175th year anniversary since its formal founding in 1868. Already efforts have been underway with the retiring of the largest surface-combatants in the IJN and the beginning of broad-level Nenshō Tochi integration to make room for the overhaul and expansion. With the IJN promising that "Japan would remain the dominant naval power" into the next two decades and beyond. The decision to announce the second phase of Japanese Naval Dominance has come at a time when a number of major hyper-states have begun their own naval expansion programs, and or have outright unified (Russian-Poland). This has included a recent and major Nusantara Naval Expansion which officially was "greatly appreciated, as the Nusantara League continues to uphold its position as one of the crucial Guardians of the Pacific". At the same time, with an ongoing Third Republic Naval Overhaul, alongside the expansion of the Kriegsmarine, many within the Imperial Diet and military circles have made clear that "the winds of change" are approaching and that Japan will be left in the dust if it does not adapt.

The primary concern on everyone's mind, are the aging fleet carriers of the Ryūshō-Class which are now approaching 20-25 years in age, approximately the lower end of their overall life-capacity. Furthermore, at least one of the first generation Ryūshō-Class carriers has undergone major "repair work" as a result of the War for Divine Justice, which has also decreased its lifespan tremendously. As a result there has been serious concern over Japanese naval aviation dominance being eclipsed as a result of inaction to continually work towards improvement. Especially as nations are actively revamping their own naval systems. Of course the other area of concern has been the aging primary surface-combatant known as the Shiomi-class, which itself is a slig

#Imperial Japanese Navy deployed across Indian Ocean, MILF Brigade activated to special action following attack on ADIR home-territory

The Japan Times | Issued October 23rd, 2042 - 12:00 | Tokyo, Japan

TOKYO - Following what many are calling an "unexpected result" to a war in Africa which was launched by Japanese allies in HELOS, which has now seen the ADIR mainland attacked and the fabric of military control on the ropes, Japan has confirmed the deployment of its Navy to the Indian Ocean. The Imperial Sixth Standing Fleet based nominally out of Paradis has been placed on high alert, while RIGS assets used in the defense of Comoros are being offered repairs and basing in Paradis itself.

An additional fleet, the Fourth Imperial Standing Fleet alongside a host of SSGN Squadrons have also been moved into the Indian Ocean, around Joint Base Saber as a statement against the attacks on its HELOS ally which saw the General Staff of the ADIR almost wiped out. At the same time, the MILF Brigade nominally based out of Joint Base Arslan has also been moved immediately to Tunis, the capital of the ADIR as EAF-launched attacks have unexpectedly devastated the capital city with armed personnel.

These special forces units are being offered to HELOS to immediately begin securing back-line efforts and to stabilize the situation at large, while the Empire of Japan has also deployed several engineer brigades to ADIR oil and power infrastructure to stabilize that situation as well.

Confidential

On top of this, for temporary security the HELOS Satellite and Comms network has been isolated/disconnected from any connection to the core Japanese network, given possible infiltration of the former.
