A list of puns related to "Hookworm"
Rescue can suck at times. Today (May 6) we euthanized Momma Coco and puppy Julio from our Coco Litter. The Coco litter was rescued on the day of their birth (April 15th) from a south Texas Animal Control facility. One of the 11 puppies did not survive the 340 mile transport. The others seemed to be doing okay until day 9. Momma had hookworms and passed them to the babies. The pups were too young for dewormers but once we realized they were anemic, they were treated anyway. Momma was also suffering from anaplasmosis (tick born illness). 9 more pups died between day 9 and day 12. For another week it was just Momma Coco and puppy Julio. Things were improving and then today, Coco and Julio started having seizures (presumed distemper) and had to be euthanized to spare their suffering.
My wife and I have been in rescue for 9 years (first foster was May 2012). We have had 396+ foster dogs either spend at least one night in our home or be born in our home. We specialize in whelping (birth) and maternity (post birth) fostering, so we theme our litter names. This litter was themed after the Disney/Pixar movie Coco.
Our previous worst year for losses was 9 in a year. We have lost 15 in the last 11 days and 19 this year to date. To say this has been devastating to us is an understatement.
Pictures of the litter (excluding the puppy that was lost on transport) can be found at: The Coco Litter pictures. Video streams of the litter and names can be found here.
I would greatly appreciate a pic of momma and the puppies frolicking at the Rainbow Bridge. Though we don't have pictures or video of the 11th puppy, you can make them look like the others since they were all mostly black with white on the undersides.
Thank you for your consideration and time
Hello my husband and I just recently brought a 14-week old puppy home and are trying to plan out her future prevention. We know that there is a test for MDR1 but we would like to play it safe. We personally do not like topical prevention and prefer it in pill form. This is our first collie breed dog so any advice is appreciated!
Dealing with hookworms for the first time and everyone stresses the importance of cleaning up the poop right away so the larvae don't continue their lives in the ground. But I can't pick up these poops. In fact all I can do is hose down the spot because it's just a slimy mess. The only other option would be, idk, dig up the spot with a shovel and throw out the dirt, but I don't currently have a shovel, and I can't fill my yard with holes.
And of course this is happening just as I'm about to tackle a big project tilling the yard and seeding a new lawn, which will need to be kept moist. And I need to do it asap. My yard is a mud pit in winter and a dust bowl in summer and that's already affected the quality of life and health of my dog, and prime seeding season is going to end soon. So it's not for entirely selfish reasons that I can't wait much longer to get this done.
This is all because my dog won't stop eating every particle of shit he finds.
Leeloo was diagnosed with treatment resistant hookworms. Her first round of treatment to clear her took 5 months in total and it returned a couple of months later. Second round took another 3-4 months. But I made an additional change: I switched to Simparica Trio as it contains moxidectin, though at a much lower dose than Advantage Multi. (quick clarification edit: I switched to Simparica Trio after the treatment involving Advantage Multi, not in place of Advantage Multi. Follow the treatment plan for clearing out the infestation first!)
Leeloo just completed her annual exam, which I requested a fecal check as well, and she came back negative!
Understand this is anecdotal and not foolproof evidence of a valid treatment. I haven't had to put her through another round of Drontal Plus and Advantage Multi in about a year. So this may be an option for others to consider.
Moxidectin is noted as the drug that keeps treatment resistant hookworms flare ups from returning once the infestation comes up negative in testing. It's one of the main ingredients in Advantage Multi. I don't like the topicals, which is why I went for Simparica Trio instead. Simparica Trio also appears to be cheaper overall, and I will be switching Benson over to it once my supply of Heartgard/Nexgard is exhausted.

hello! we got a puppy recently that came infested with hookworms. weβre treating her with meds from the vet and are wiping her paws & cleaning her poop quickly. my question is has anyone successfully used WONDERCIDE to treat their yard? specifically for hookworms? any other recommendations are welcome! i read somewhere to spray bleach where she poops but i donβt really want to kill our grass if i donβt have to.
I am trying to find the short film made by Disney titled "Hookworm" released June 30th, 1945 as a part of their Health for the Americas series. Any help would be appreciated! I can find information on it, but I can't seem to find any copy of it anywhere to watch.
Update: I emailed the National Archives, and this was their response, so no luck so far:
Dear u/fallawaytonight
Good Evening, welcome to the world of archives.
This is in response to your research inquiry of 02/04/2021 regarding obtaining a copy of film material maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration.
Unfortunately the National Archives and Records Administration only maintains a Preservation (Master) copy of this item.
Therefore the National Archives does not maintain a copy that the public can view.
You or representative would have to physically come to the National Archives and Records Administration facility in College Park, Maryland and submit a request for a reference copy to be made.
Unfortunately, at this time due to the Coronavirus Public Health Emergency, and Presidential Libraries, are closed until further notice, staff at all locations will continue to respond to emailed requests for records.
If you are unable to come to the National Archives, you may wish to hire someone to do research for you. You may consult the list of freelance researchers (http://www.archives.gov/research room/independent researchers/hire a researcher.html); please note that we are neither affiliated with or endorse any of these researchers, but offer the list as a service to the public.
If the motion picture,Sound, and AVideo reference staff can be of any further assistance, we will be pleased to assist you by email only, due to the closure of the National Archives due to Coronavirus public health emergency.
Sincerely

Has anyone else's dog been prone to hookworms around here? My dog keeps getting it even though I've taken all of the precautions (avoiding parks and places where people haven't picked up...which is a lot of places).
If so, does anyone have any helpful natural preventatives?
Also, do you know any good places for dog boarding βΒ if we can't take our dog somewhere with us this weekend since he's sick? It would just be for a day.
Thanks!
Hello, I am going through the adoption process to get a rescue and I am so excited. However, I am learning that hookworm is a common issue for greyhounds. I was told that we would need to take care of the hookworm and I just want to make sure I am prepared for what I am getting myself into. I have money set aside for the dog if there were to be an emergency but I am scared that this will turn into a problem bigger than I can handle. I have read that it can transfer to humans through their saliva if they were to lick their bum. How is one supposed to navigate this? Any words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
