A list of puns related to "Hardball"
The Miami Marlins television deal with Fox Sports Florida expires at the end of the 2020 season and despite talk of "ongoing, serious negotiations" it is feasible - if not increasingly likely - that the existing pact could reach its term without an extension in place. Prior to the sale of the franchise in 2017, the clubβs former leadership team presented Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter with a proposal for an extension that βcalled for a rights fee beginning north of $50 million, with some up-front payments in 2019 and 2020.β Believing they could negotiate a better deal, the new ownership group rejected the offer. But the Jeter-lead front office hasnβt been able to convince the RSN its broadcast rights are worth more money and Sinclair - comfortable with the Rays under contract - seem unlikely to significantly increase their offer now. Former Marlins executive Mark Geddis says that itβs no longer a question of how much more the team can command, but βwhere and when theyβre going to settle [for less].β
Howie Long-Short: The deal that the Sherman-Jeter group passed up before closing on the franchise βis one they would sign today without even reading the contract [terms].β Geddis said that βwith cord cutting having accelerated [over the last 2-3 years], it has become increasingly difficult [for networks] to value [local broadcast rights and to justify paying out huge contracts to teams].β Remember, the RSNs are being squeezed on the other end by the cable and satellite providers. Sinclairβs well-documented struggles over the last 6 months would also lead one to believe that the purse strings may have been tightened a bit since the $50+ million/year offer was made.
The Marlins have been playing hardball (pun intended) with Fox Sports Florida, but the team lacks a viable alternative to the RSN. Gettis said, βto some degree, [the NL East club] is a hostage.β The only other regional sports network within the state is Fox Sports Sun (another Sinclair owned property) and no one pretends to believe a Marlins-centric television channel would be viable in todayβs cable environment.
The only real leverage the Marlins held in negotiations seemingly dissipated when the Rays agreed to their new broadcast deal with Fox Sports Sun in 2018. Thatβs because Sinclair only βneededβ to lock down the rights to one Florida based baseball team for their two RSNs in t

β¦. And yet these bastards have the audacity to ask me about switching my shifts around to cover holes in the schedule? Thatβs a hell no for me, boss. My automated response has been βAre there any bonuses or incentives being offered?β Iβve seen what desperate looks like and what theyβre willing to offer (at times it was $750 + OT for one additional shift). Until the powers-that-be get serious about paying and retaining their own seasoned nurses, Iβm going to sit back and let them flounder. Call me when youβre paying real money.
I pay $55 + tax for Rogersβ gigabit ignite atm. I ve neogtiated a decent deal for the last three years with them. They donβt seem to be budging this year. Atleast not yet. The best they offered me was 70+tax along with the caveat that rates are going up $4 in Feb-March. So i told them to cancel my plan in advance on my month end (also year end) which is on the 13th. I am hoping for retention ( or whatver fancy word they call them now) to call me back just like they have for the last two years and hopefully continue my plan at the same rate. I havenβt heard from them yet but there is still time.
Anyone out there paying equal or lesser for 500 Mbps or gig speed from the big two in Toronto ? And any tips on negotiating ? Thanks !
Edit - Sorry should have added I am in Toronto.
Iβm a media freelancer and been working with a new client recently who seem to want a fair bit of work but wonβt book more than 3 months in advance.
Iβve just been quite straight with them in saying that:
I am really unsure what to do because Iβll be honest in that Iβm not used to negotiating in this way. For my other two main clients, we have an informal agreement that they generally give me work on a regular ongoing basis.
I guess what I want is to be able to continue to work with this new client, and for it to be a win:win, but I donβt want them to snap and say Iβm being too hard ball.
I guess what Iβm trying to insure against is that if Iβm making a time investment into a business relationship, at the expense of being less available for other clients, I want to make sure that there is some longevity potential for repeat business.
Who wants to play? Wooden bats, bubble gum (chewing tobacco) . Who wants to play next spring? I really want to throw a 67 mph sinker. Try to hit that.
Though Covaxin business can bring decent cash, However Ocugen is very unlikely to play hardball and fight FDA for the simple reason that Covaxin is not their product. One simple example is Ocugen backing off the EUA filing for adult Covaxin and compromised with BLA. Besides, playing hardball with FDA can threaten their main business of OCU400 IND which just started its clinical trials. At this time it will be just a diplomatic approach and see whether Covaxin can be considered. If it works out well and good and generates enough cash for their upcoming clinical trials of Ocugen homegrown product. Otherwise, Bharat biotech is at a loss in the North American market.
