A list of puns related to "Genetic Information"
Do I have to publish my child's genetic information?
I ask this question, because I know that Null ARCs, Alpha ARCs, and Republic Commandos explicitly have different genetic make ups than a standard Clone Trooper.
A line in the Complete Cross Sections refers to Clone Pilots as having superior to standard human peripheral vision. Does this mean that Clone Pilots are a special pilot template, or do all clones have their vision enhanced, for example?
On nofap/noporn we are combating our ADDICTION to fapping and porn, not 'desperately trying to retain our sperm'
Your sperm doesn't magically contain your 'benefits', 'superpowers' or 'progress'. Your sperm has ONLY one job: to deliver genetic information to an egg. No more, no less. It doesn't give you 'energy'. It doesn't give you 'confidence'. Sperm doesn't help you with any other part of your life any more than your ears help you to smell something. The problem is that after a relapse it feels like all the benefits are lost with the ejaculation of sperm, you get that 'drained' feeling for a short time afterwards... but logically that can't be true:
If it was true then women wouldn't benefit from reducing their fapping and porn... but they do because they can also be addicted. The problem here, the addiction, lies in our brain and our behavior, not in our sperm. It's neither the cause of the problem nor the solution to how we can improve our lives.
So, in general, have healthy, relationship-affirming sex and enjoy it, enjoy feeling tired after sex. Doing things makes a person tired - don't confuse that with some tragic loss of 'superpowers'. Again, if you're thinking ejactulation during sex is a 'loss of benefits' you've lost sight of what we're doing here on Nofap : reducing our addiction to fapping and watching porn.
Finally, thoughts that 'semen retention' 'contains' or 'holds' the benefit of quitting your addiction (already this sounds ridiculous,) dismiss your personal effort, the choices you make and the new habits you develop during streak after streak. A person doesnt lose their muscles if they miss the gym and eat a tub of ice-cream one day in 50 days, do they?
It's harmful to think and promote the baseless idea that your white genetic-information packed ejaculate does any more than what it's supposed to do for you, fertilize an egg.
Go forward. Semen retention is a harmful, illogical viewpoint on this sub.
p.s. Therefore wet dreams, a natural process, are not relapses... and not a loss of 'benefits'.
Since there was a good response to my other post. I want to ask about making a series of post about the classes I take at UCSD extension. Let me know if this is something you guys want.
This quarter I am taking Genetics BIOL40338. Let me know what you guys want to know and ill update this post every few weeks or so. If you have information that would be useful please let me know!

Iβm bi and Ive been in relationships with two women who were transitioning to men. He wants to know specifically: is being transgender an objective or subjective idea? So, I believe that trans people are born βin the wrong sex body for their mindβ as in the sex of their body does not match the sexual identify in their brain. However... why is that? I think people are born that way but what is the scientific explanation for it? He kept asking- but why canβt they accept who they are? I kept saying, because theyβre not physically who they are mentally. Then he would respond... yes but, they may have been born this way but thatβs WHO they are, why canβt they accept that. I was like yeah and it feels WRONG TO THEM lol. He could not understand HOW it felt wrong. Like, what differentiates this wrong feeling from every other wrong feeling about ourselves? How are we so sure about this particular wrong? (I hope Iβm not explaining myself too badly here...) Weβre both very open but we were not able to grasp each otherβs meaning during parts of our discussion. I told him that if I can show him a little science maybe we will see that being trans is objective, not just something that they feel. Somebody chime in here and help me!
Hello,
I am diagnosed with a very rare genetic medical condition called Familial Episodic Pain Syndrome.
It has been challenging to find information re this conditions/ others with it. If you have any suggestions please let me know!
Thanks!
I have only ever heard creationists give one reason why evolution into a different "kind" is impossible: mutations can only scramble existing information; they don't create something new. I think virtually everyone who has explored the 'Evolution vs Creation' debate has heard this argument. While they often don't define what new information means, I think the following examples are adequate.
Beneficial Point Mutations
A point mutation changes a base pair in the genome. These mutations may change the amino acid sequence of the created protein or be completely neutral. Human embryos have an average of 175 point mutations, and most of these do nothing. We do see mutations causing detrimental effects. In human haemoglobin, the codon 'GAG' codes for Glutamic Acid. A mutation resulting in the sequence 'GTG' substitutes the Glutamic Acid for Valine, causing sickle-cell disease.
To say that all point mutations are harmful isn't true. This paper details how two amino acid substitutions led to resistance to the toxins produced by a species of toad. Most metazoans (animal) cells have a Sodium-Potassium pump, which transports sodium out of and potassium into the cell. The toads produce a toxin that binds to the pump and inhibits the critical role. The point mutation prevented this by restricting the toxins ability to bind to the pump, which produces a high level of resistance.
However, Creationists may argue that this is;t new information because the genome is still the same length. Now, I will demonstrate examples of mutation that increase the length of the genome.
Beneficial Duplications
A duplication is a mutation that copies a section of DNA (a small series of nucleotides, a whole gene, multiple genes, or even the whole genome). We have many examples of gene duplications in humans. The gene AMY1 codes for an enzyme called amylase, which breaks down starch. Populations with a diet higher in starch have more copies of the AMY1 gene. This study found that 70% of the individuals from the high-starch population had at least 6 copies of the gene. Only 37% of the low-starch sample had at least 6 copies. We have a clear example of how mutations can increase the genome length.
However, Creationists may argue that this is not "new information" because no new genes were added. A duplication copies existing information. But, if a gene is duplicated and a mu
