I’ve heard that FSS can also be used by non-pilots for other activities, such as farming. My father told me he used to call them back in the 70’s to get reports on conditions before a big road trip. Has anyone here ever used FSS for non-flight related activities?

So I'm slowly getting the hang of the FSS scanner and was wondering a couple of things.

1. When you jump to a system that's seemingly unknown to you, is it necessary or even wise to use the FSS scanner first and go around discovering all the signal sources and planetary bodies? Will doing so obtain better or necessary information of some kind?

2. Is it good practice to examine "unknown signal sources?".. I just discovered an unknown signal source and went to investigate and encountered giant chunks of a ship that had been blown to pieces. Among the wreckage are little orange squares. As I got close to one I noticed blinky lights and a beeping coming from it. Is this like some kind of black box? Can I obtain any info from it? Should I try and scoop it up or something? And what could any additional orange squares me? Commodities of some kind?

So yea, I'm sitting in front of this beeping box amongst the wreckage of this ship and don't know what to do!?

Y’all. I’m really trying not to blow a gasket here, but SO’s son sprayed my puppy in the face with cleaner. I was holding the puppy, and he was chilling. He wasn’t barking, whining, biting, or chewing. He was literally just hanging out in my arms, as I got ready to put my shoes on and take him out for some exercise.

Let me head off the inevitable defences by stating: we don’t keep spray bottles of water to spray pets with, so no, he didn’t think it was water. he knew it was cleaner, and still did it.

He is old enough to know better, and has been around dogs his whole life, and neither SO nor HCBM use the spray bottle method with pets, so he did this of his own volition.

SO. Didn’t. Punish. Him.

I asked him later what he’d have done if either of our daughters had sprayed an innocent animal in the face with chemicals, and he admitted they’d have been in trouble, but “they’re always doing stuff”.

I’ve been around these kids 2 months, and FSS gets basically no discipline for his wrongdoing or attitude just because it’s less frequent than the girls. WTF? I can’t. I simply can’t. What do I do here?

I had a few shots of jäger last night, and looking at Patrick's Instagram wasn't doing it for me anymore. I got pretty lonely, called up FSS and asked them to read every NOTAM for a flight between LAX and JFK in a Piper Cub. The guy sounded pretty annoyed but I reminded him that it was his legal obligation to inform me of all notices that may affect my flight. I feel asleep somewhere around LAS, woke up around CLE. FSS dude, if you're reading this, you have a sexier phone voice than my mom.

Strange experience.

Cruising along, Ubering a Famous Explorer, FSS'ing every system I pass through while the DBx fuel scoop does it's thing.

Find an undiscovered system with 5 bodies, and start scanning away. The star, 3 HMCW's, and....

CRASH Out of the game, back to desktop, looking at a fill-in form to send a crash report to Fdev. Both game and launcher are gone.

Ok, fill it out, send it, restart the game, hop to SC, fire up the FSS and try to zoom in on the planet again, and...

Well, that's annoying, maybe the crash didn't clean up properly. Fill out the form, send it, reboot the computer, restart the game, hop to SC, fire up the System Map, details, point at the planet of doom and...

At this point I just moved on. I kinda regret not DSS'ing the planet now.

Once I have dropped off the explorer and sold the data, I'll head back, but anyone had anything like this happen?

So I haven't found a swing speed Deathclaw Gauntlet, Powerfist or knuckle in ages, like literally none in months if not even a whole year, however I still did find a swing speed bear arm.

My Question: Are some Gauntlet weapons with faster swing speed Legacy?

I have a feeling this may be a recurring question in the forum but haven't been able to find a clear answer (if one exists).

Is there a relationship between job postings and available positions, and additionally between postings and the OA "queue"? Like many FS applicants who were notified they would get an OA, I have been waiting for almost a year to get scheduled, yet there have been multiple job postings since then. Is it arbitrary, or is there a logic here? Seems strange that they would just keep adding to an applicant pool in which no progress is being made.

It seems this would narrow my chances of an eventual offer (assuming I pass OA) since I am part of an ever-growing applicant pool, but hopefully the number of vacancies is growing proportionately...

Do you have to wait until the scan of a planet is completely finished to get it to count, or can I just zoom-in, zoom-out?

I’m really looking for a Q 50c 15c/25 Railway, I’d be willing to bundle a good amount for one. I’d also like to get a J/AA FSS 90 Deathclaw Gauntlet or Bear Arm. I’m also looking for Weightless AP Sent Marine RA or LL or similar rolls for flux. Other then that just keep offers fair.
