Exemplars of grounded theory

Hi! Can someone point me to research studies that are exemplars of grounded theory? I believe awareness of dying by glaser and Strauss is one such example that are commonly accepted as excellent example and not just any example. What can be other classic examples of GT study?

Abstract Phonemes vs. Exemplar Theory (Phonology)

Hello Reddit,

Apologies if I come across as badly educated but I am a tired Ling undergrad in need.

I have come across an essay title asking for a critique of the evidence of language being processed as either β€œabstract phonemes” or β€œsurface exemplars”. (Specifically in phonology.) Is this a rewording of a debate between OT vs RBT? Rules vs. constraints? Generativism/Chomsky vs. functionalism(?) ? I feel so lost with how to plan/structure the debate.

Could anyone clarify the actual β€œstandard” theories and terminology which are in opposition here or recommend any papers?

There seem to be so many terms used in different books and papers for similar ideas, e.g. β€œtokens”, β€œexamples”, β€œexemplars”, β€œinstances”

Thanks for any input you give, as I have been searching for literally weeks and it is stressing me out to the max.

Why is the Whorf hypothesis still a hypothesis, yet UG/Exemplar approaches to linguistics are considered theories?

The Whorf hypothesis (as it's popularly viewed today, discarding lingustic determinism/strong whorfianism) despite having evidence shown to support it, is still labeled as a hypothesis. It seems like universal grammar is just as hypothetical as the whorf hypothesis, though it's regarded as lingustic theory. I know the differences between a hypothesis and a theory. I don't understand why UG or other approaches to grammar like exemplar theory are considered "more legitimate" than linguistic relativity.

Wow. North II is a wonderful testament to the rationality of Guide.

#TL;DR

  • Hakram's willingness to seek out opposing viewpoints,
  • his willingness to engage with these viewpoints in good faith,
  • and his ability to not only recognize his own biases but also correct for them in order to produce an improved theory of mind and a (now corrected) mental model of the world

make this chapter a beautiful example of rationality in fiction, and it's a goddamn shame that this chapter requires so much context.

Also, EE is a good bean. Some might argue that he is, actually, the best bean.

^((I have yet to hear evidence to the contrary.)^)

Just BTW, I haven't been this invested in Guide since Book 5. :)

Okay let's get this out of the way. Yes, I said the r-word (rAtIoNaLiTy). Try not to roll your eyes, but it's true. Let me explain.

We should start by cribbing from r/rational's sidebar.

> "Rationality" is a specific quality of any fictional work, independent of genres and settings. It describes the extent to which the work explores thoughtful behaviour of people in honest pursuit of their goals, as well as consequences of their behaviour on the fictional world or the story's plot.

(Emphasis mine, and what I think lies at the heart of this chapter.)

Wonderful definition! Twelve out of ten. I would argue that specific shoe (thoughtful behavior in honest pursuit of their goals) fits just about every character we've seen in guide thus far... but before this chapter we simply have not seen it in such lucid detail!

Let's (try to) break it down.

Please bear with me, it's 3AM.

North II begins with Hakram's dispassionate analysis of inter-alliance politics. He determines that nothing productive will come of his allies' squabbling, so he decides to seek answers among his enemies - the Blackspears and the Split Tree - instead. He believes he understands the opposing alliance, but seeks them out anyways because doing so will allow him to do what he came here for. Hakram then reflects on his enemies' dynamics and notices that the split tree are not visibly gaining from their alliance with the blackspears. He didn't see it before, but he now recognizes that his mental model of their relationship is incomplete. What are the split tree getting from this alliance?

Okay. this isn't exactly new - we've seen this before. Consciously seeking out opposing viewpoints in order to clarify or change your own is certainly thoughtful behavior, sure. Recognizing that your initial assumptions were wrong and having a wi

Who do you believe Jesus actually is?

So I'm quite progressive in a lot of my views on 'secondary' issues, but I think the fundamentals are kind of core to the Christian faith. That said, I'm pretty open-minded and I've recently realised that there are quite a few 'atonement' theories (penal/substitutionary, christus victor, exemplar, etc.).

I'm still in the process of deconstructing and reconstructing and was just wondering what some of you all believe about Jesus and who He actually is?

Thank you!

*Note: I do have my own beliefs already, but I don't want to create a bias off the bat, so I'd love to understand your views first!

The deflation then inflation theory is WRONG. It is just a hyper-inflation story. What you should know and do about it.

Here is one ape's opinion. I won't bore you with charts and technical arguments. I will keep this logical and offer some advice.

The Mike Maloney deflation then inflation theory is 100% wrong. I understand where he comes from; and there may be a flash crash in the markets. However, 1. do you think the FED is actually going to allow a real crash in all three markets? 2. They will just print and buy up all the assets - look at Japan as an exemplar. What is the PPT? Don't they have near unlimited funding at this point? 3. Of course, the FED and the PPT are not omnipotent so there may still be a temporary crash - but I doubt they will let it fester - "BTFD THEY SAY!!" Remember, the Venezuela stock market is doing gang-busters until you look at the actual currency under-pinning it.

Maloney and morons like Harry Dent are wrong because they assume a static world in which the FED has not already increased the money supply exponentially. You have all seen the M1, M2 M3 money graphs over the past couple years. They stopped updating this...I wonder why?

https://preview.redd.it/0ztaoe5k6f171.png?width=1443&format=png&auto=webp&s=3bc8d80219513ba9628d22bb4a4b65ee1daaab06

So the deflationists will have to explain how in the h*ll you see a deflationary crash - while, and after, they are and have been printing money 24/7? The best analogy I can think of is imagine our economy is a Porsche going from 50 to 160 MPH (money printing) - then Maloney says it will crash (possible); maybe totaled. You then don't say "okay let's step on the gas and go 200!" Dude, the car is totaled.

What I think is happening is we are going from 50 to 150 and then flooring it and then the driver (the FED) says - hey let's snort coccaine and take some extasy!

What is going to happen is the FED will try to handle the MMT printing by going Japanese and "manage" the inflation while keeping the bond and stock market viable. When they lose control their only out is to print even more - and thus we hyper-inflate. Period. End of story. We have all seen this horror movie many times before.

So what to do? 1. BUY AS MUCH SILVER AS YOU CAN AFFORD! 2. Prep (you know what I mean).

Here is the key piece of advice because I can certainly be wrong and Mike right. (Naw)...some of you are holding back money waiting for the crash to "back up the truck." Here is what I would recommend.

There are two types of purchases you will need to make - things you need, things you want.

IMO I would buy the

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Theories and predictions: Amadeus, Akua, Cat's Name,

Introduction to the introduction: I was too late to post this so EE released some more plot (mostly Interlude: Juniper’s plan). Every word in italics a comment to that fact

I was thinking a lot about what is going to happen in Book 7. Some of my predictions are going to snowball some other predictions.

Prediction: Akua is going to truly become Warlock by destroying the safe-measures Malicia put in her body. We only saw one person become the Warlock in the books. We do not know how the other before did it, but I will use him as my example. Wekesa got it by killing the previous Warlock (superiority) and doing three spells using his mastery. Now, Malicia controls Akua’s body with the safe-measures (superiority) and Akua was the Diabolist (bind/controls bodies) and hijacked Winter!Cait in Book 4. It was said somewhere Akua wanted completely to hijack Cat’s body before but did not do it. You could say it is her mastery.

Majors Predictions: Amadeus’ plan will succeed, and the Tower will be down. The Dread Empire of Praes will cease to exist and multiples kingdoms are going to be born. None of the major players in PTGE know Amadeus’s plan. Too many things are set-up to stop him for this part. The others are going to stop him from killing the High Lords’ families.

> By the time she died and collapsed the Tower on top of the heroes that came for her, there were only a handful of standards left.

> -Amadeus

The only time the Tower was destroyed was when Triumphant lost her final battle and decided to drop the Tower on the crusaders. The empire was destroyed, conquered, and divided in multiples kingdoms according to the wiki. When Amadeus will burn the tower, the major players, except Sepulchral the exemplar praesi, (Well, that part was proven wrong really fast) are going to realise that the empire is better fractured since the Goblins are rebelling and the Orcs are probably going to rebel. The other culture will follow suit. The Ogres will probably have their own kingdoms. The Soninkes will have their own things, same for the Taghrebs. I do not know for the Duni.

Prediction: Amadeus is going to be killed. Everybody here know Amadeus is suicidal. He wanted to be stabbed by Cat, he wanted to be killed in the crusade by Taric and/or Cordelia. I do not want to be predict exactly when, but Amadeus will be killed, it just makes sense. Against Cat or others, by doing his terrorist attack with goblinfire, or against the Dead King, only EE knows.

Welcome (new) Pundians, this post was written to help share the basic information terminology you will see in this subreddit, for those holding Pundi X coins or thinking of doing so. I hope this helps consolidate answers and information of different questions and information in one place.

The Pundi X project has two sides, namely Pundi X and F(x)

Pundi X = The overall company and project.

NPXS = The current coin/ old coin Ticker.

PUNDIX = The new coin/after reduction coin Ticker.

Deflationary Tokenomics per transaction = The supply of Pundi x tokens will be reduced by the amount of tokens used in transactions. Important read:

Pundians = A common way to refer to holders of Pundi X tokens.

HODL = Hold on for dear life. Generally, means that you will hold your coins, and not sell them even if there is a drop/correction. This is mostly indicated for long term holders who expect the coins value to go to the moon.

Zac = CEO of Pundi X, all around great guy with a great plan.

A welcome by Zac: https://www.reddit.com/r/PundiX/comments/m9q47t/zac_cheah_welcome_everyone/

Book Club, Chief Kolar’s Foreign Faction: Chapters 24-Epilogue - Part 2 of 3

Welcome to the fourth installment, part 2 of 3, of the 2021 forum book club reading of Foreign Faction: Who Really Kidnaped JonBenet? By A. James Kolar. The discussion for chapters 1-7 isΒ here,Β chapters 8-18 isΒ here,Β and chapters 19-23 isΒ here, if you would like to discuss those chapters.

This is theΒ group's club and threadΒ so I will just try to throw out a few ideas to discuss for each chapter but please discuss anything else in these chapters that you find interesting. Please don't limit conversation to my attempt at chapter ice breakers.

EDIT: Due to post lengths, this installment is broken down into 3 parts. This is post 2 of 3.

  • Chapter 31Β - "Red Flags and Behavioral Clues": The title of the chapter in this case is self-explanatory. Chief Kolar uses this to discuss some of the early red flags and behavioral clues that he observed. He does point out that the chapter is not an all-inclusive list. It's worth noting that he has stated several times that there are things about the case that he is aware of that he can't mention publicly. Highlights of his Red Flags and Behavioral Clues are:
    • "January 1, 1997, CNN interview. In response to a question from CNN correspondent Brian Cabell about the family’s decision to hire a defense attorney,Β JRTh indicated that he was β€œnot angry” about JBR's death but he / they were interested in finding out β€œwhy” this had occurred.Β He stated that they could not go on until there was an answer as to β€œwhy” his daughter had β€œdied.”"
    • JR tried to divert some of the criticism about the decision to do the January 1, 1997, CNN interview to his former friend, Fleet White. Ramsey stated in a 1998 sworn deposition taken during the Steven Miles law suit (Miles, a local photographer who had been charged but not convicted of sexual exploitation of children, sued JR and the National Enquirer for pointing to him as a likely perpetrator of the crime) that it was White who had insisted that the family go on CNN to plead their innocence.
    • The speed at which JR hired attorneys and sent them to interview Fleet White. Chief

Proud dad moment.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.

I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.

When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."

From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"

Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
