The Russian Revolution of 1905 was far less dramatic in its outcome than either of the Revolutions of 1917, but did nonetheless mark a turning point in the history of the Russian Empire. While Tsar Nikolas II did hold onto his throne, he was forced to weaken the autocratic power of the Tsar through major concessions to the revolutionaries, including the convening of a State Duma and the ratification of a constitution in 1906. The October Manifesto, in which the ruling regime outlined its plans for a constitution, were met with great celebration in the streets of the capital, St. Petersburg, and here Repin depicts one such boisterous crowd, marching through the streets and singing songs.

David Alfaro Siqueiros - From the Dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz to the Revolution: The Revolutionaries (1957-65)
The first century of Mexicoβs independence was a tumultuous period marked by unstable political regimes, great economic inequality, and a loss of considerable territory in a war with the United States. The dictatorship of Porfirio DΓaz brought Mexico into the 20th century but ended in 1911 at the start of the Mexican Revolution. Under the leadership of Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, amongst others, the several factions involved managed to institute constitutional and agrarian reform after a decade-long conflict that, according to some estimates, resulted in up to two million deaths.

In the various panels of his mural From the Dictatorship of Porfirio DΓaz to the Revolution, The People in Arms Siqueiros traces how the extravagant and lavish lifestyle of the aristocracy did much to fuel the anger of the countryβs exploited peasants at the onset of the revolution:
