Lets move the creative industry from web2 to web3. A visual guide for professionals in the music industry: from the metaverse & music streaming and distrubution to NFT merchandise & tickets

What is web 3

Web1 (roughly 1990-2005) was about open protocols that were decentralized and community-governed. Most of the value accrued to the edges of the network β€” users and builders.

Web2 (roughly 2005-2020) was about centralized services run by corporations. Most of the value has been captured by handful of companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook. It has concentrated wealth to a few succesfull entrepreneurs (e.g. Bezos and Zuckerberg)

We are now at the beginning of the web3 era, which combines the decentralized, community-governed ethos of web1 with the advanced, modern functionality of web2. Web3 is the internet owned by the builders and users, orchestrated with tokens. Lets together help professionals in the music industry to acces Web3

Seeking help with my own re-naming --> Looking for creative, nature-y, androgynous-y, but professional names

Hello!

I am going through the process of renaming myself to move away from a name that my (abusive) parents gave to me. I haven't found the perfect name yet, and would love your ideas. I've enjoyed searching other posts, and look forward to any ideas you may have!

Details:

Me: Mid-30s, therapist, trainer, writer, multi-disciplinary artist. Female, queer creative-type. I love the outdoors, am active in several arts communities, and am someone who does fairly unique work that blends my various disciplines together.

Name Specifications:

  • I have considered moving my current first name to use as a last name (Think "Gracy."). But, I have mixed feelings on that, and may entirely create new first/last names. So, I welcome suggestions for both first and last names.
  • I like earthy names, or names that harken mythology, elements etc.
  • It needs to be a name I can use professionally, but can also be creative/outside the norm. In fact, I prefer if it isn't the "standard" names of my generation and is somewhat unusual or uncommon without being "uniyque."
  • I prefer names that are androgynous or "androgynous leaning." Anything that reads too strongly masculine or feminine isn't my favorite.
  • Names that speak to resiliency, self-reclamation etc. would be great
  • I'm an anglophone, but live in a french speaking place. So, nothing that would be impossible to say for francophones, or that is a bad word in french. I'm Anglophone, and also wouldn't give myself a french name - unless it was something that was used in both anglo and franco communities.

Names I like:

  • The first time I saw Celyn, I thought it was pronounced with an "S sound" at the start - and I actually like it that way, but am not sure if it is too "unique." (I imagine francophones may assume it is a "unique spelling" for Selene, but not sure).
  • I really like Soren, but it feels too masculine for me. (I toyed with exploring whether I could make it more neutral...like "Sieran" (pronounced like Kieran), or something? not sure if that is too "unique," too.
  • I like Quinn, but have an ex with that name
  • I like Ash, but it doesn't feel quite right (and don't like the idea that folks might assume my name is Ashley, because that isn't right at all for me).
  • Considered Ash, Stone, Grey, Avery as last names, not sold on any of them

Names I don't like:

  • No traditional names from my generation (Jessica, Elizabeth etc.)
  • Nothing overly masculine or feminine (Soren is too masc, Flo

Best option for creative professional? 34-38". $2.5k budget

Hey all,

I'm a creative professional looking to upgrade to ultra wide, but I've found researching this pretty overwhelming. Most lists I've seen seem to have the same few lines as the recommended, but the individual models always seem slightly different from one to the next. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

What I'm looking for:

  • 34-38" – Altho I'm certainly a bigger-is-better kind of person. Curved at the bigger end of the sizes.
  • Good color accuracy. I work in a creative field.
  • High resolution
  • Reasonably good in both light and dark environments. I know some machines are usually ideal in one or the other, but I'm hoping it'll never be too bad.
  • The only gaming I do on PC is Cities Skylines. So that's not a major concern (altho landing on something capable of handling more isn't a bad thing).

From my initial reviews I've found, the LG 38WN95C-W seems like a good match but I'm very open to other perspectives. The Asus Designo Curve MX38VC also seems to come up a lot.

Thanks!

How should a CV look like, creative and colourful or b&w and professional?

I am a man in his 20s, and was looking for advice in creating a CV. I came across two conflicting articles. One said that employers put the CV through an AI to look for certain words, hence need to be plain and professional. While other article said to make one on canva to help make your CV stand out from the rest of the candidates. I am confused as to make it in which style? I want to pursue marketing as a career.

Fellow creative professionals, let's talk about the "passion tax."

My first job as an assistant recording engineer for a major record label paid $4/hour (granted, in the '80s). Even though I got a four-year degree in media production, I gladly took the job thinking only of the experience benefit. In two short years, I went from "WOW! I can't believe they pay me to do this!" to "WOW! I can't believe they pay me so little to do this!" I loved the work. Loved my co-workers, but had to move on to afford moving out of my parent's house.
