A list of puns related to "Cosmic Encounter"
...and WOW. That was probably the most entertaining gaming session Iβve ever played. There was tension, negotiation, lighthearted grudges, and, at the end, a barely achieved joint victory. I can tell the replayability factor is massive with how many aliens there are, too. This game will definitely be staying in my collection for a long time.
I guess what Iβm saying is, if anyone is thinking about getting CE and you have 3-4 friends who are willing to roll with the punches of imbalance, do it. You wonβt be disappointed.
Unfortunately they wrote on the box. Looking good.
Have the following available:
Chaos in the Old World (3) - SOLD.
Zombicide Black Plague, Wulfsburg and Deadeye Walkers expansions (3) - $125 + shipping (would prefer local as this things going to be very large). Stored in both core game and Wulfsburg box. Includes custom foam core insert and sleeves.
Cosmic Encounter 42 anniversary ed, Cosmic Incursion, Cosmic Dominion (4.5-5) - $75 + shipping. Base game has been played once. Incursion has been opened and punched, still in box and never played. Dominion is sealed.
I will upload pics later tonight when Iβm home.
Trades Iβd consider:
Cthulhu Wars - core game, potentially some expansions but Iβm not looking to take a huge investment on the game.
Marvel United stretch goals box, maybe other expansions as well outside of Spider-Verse.
So, Iβm reading the instructions for the first time, and thereβs one point that Iβm not quite understanding. During the Planning phase, are the players allowed to state what card they will play? Either as a bluff or a way to ensure a negotiation happens? I remember reading swim thing like that on this sun once, but itβs not in the rules, so any help is quite appreciated.
Hey all! I'll be driving down from northern minnesota and staying in St.Paul this weekend. Will consider discount for multiple purchases or trades for euro games that play great with 2 people, but I'd prefer to sell. All games are coming from a pet/smoke free home. Pics.
Suburbia $35. Played this one a few times. Some minor damage on corner.
Carpe Diem $25. Played once. Some damage on underside/corners of the box. PENDING
Magic Maze $20. Played once. Ding on the middle part of the bottom of the box.
Concordia $35 Played a couple times. Very good condition
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn 1st Ed (Includes Dimona Odinstar/Wayward Knight promos) $20. Played once. 3 of the Summoner packs are unoppened.
Apotheca Kickstarter Edition $20. Played a few times.
Dragon Castle $30. Played once. PENDING
Clank! $30. NIS
Tichu $5. Played once. One deck still NIS.
Dice Throne: Gunslinger vs. Samurai $15. Played once.
Cosmic Encounter w/ Incursion $55. So I picked this up used a few years back and the box had some heavy shelf wear and a small tear (as you can see in the pics in description). I haven't had the chance to play it yet but the components inside look almost like new! I don't think this game has ever been played honestly... weird eh?
Quantum $90. Played a few times. Honestly I struggled posting this one. Love this game to death... Cards are all sleeved with FF sleeves and I'll keep them on. Has some shelf wear from sliding on the shelves. The yellow alien faction board has some black markings on it . I'm guessing its from rubbing against the insert since we've never even used it.. otherwise very good condition.

Cosmic Encounters / Risk house rules
Cosmic Encounters is probably my favorite game and I'm a fan of risk or area control games. But I feel like most of those games take too long and the combat isn't as fun as CE. I have a crazy house rule that I tried a couple times and it was really fun. I just wanted to see if anyone has ever tried this or heard of this.
Cosmic Encounters with a map and movement like Risk. So we played without the destiny cards and arranged the planets in a map around a center planet. We used 2 or 3 of our planets depending on how many players there are. So you get 2 actions and you move your ships like in Risk. 5 ships at a time, one planet at a time and you can move or attack when you occupy the same planet as an opponent. First to 5 colonies wins. All the other rules of Cosmic Encounters still apply. I'm sure it needs to be thought out more but it was a fun way of changing it up.
I do seem to do this with a lot of games. Combine 2 systems to change it up.
For example: if I wanted to negotiate with someone, would it be against the rules for me to ask them if they had a negotiate card?
The rules only state that both players must play an encounter card before moving on to the reveal phase.

Firstly, I'm sorry, I know that there have been many threads like this but I'm still confused.
I want to buy cosmic encounter. I've never played it before but am looking for a six player game. I want incursion for the orange ships, but have been told that it doesn't match with the 42nd anniversary edition. The 42nd is the easiest one to find, but is there an expansion for 6 players with the matching ship style, or do I buy the original fantasy flight printing with incursion.
Iβll gladly pick up Star Trek Frontiers whenever it is available again, but wondering if there are other grand adventure style games that have a space opera theme to them.
My favorite memory is a 2 week period in summer 2017 when my two friends and I played so many games of cosmic that we all used each alien in the base game at least once. Great times.
face melting scene from the lost arc
I donβt get it. Theyβre intelligent people, like REALLY intelligent. How do they not understand what this stuff does? Even in concept.
I also donβt get how they donβt understand what a cognito hazard is.
This stuff is only mildly complex ideas, but they treat it as if itβs as baffling as trying to come up with quantum gravity.
I so badly want to go on a call with them so I can figure out whatβs confusing them. I canβt keep spending $5/150 characters to explain and question them, Iβll go bankrupt.
I was thinking of buying this game because I've read great things about it, but one thing that stops me from considering it is because I don't see many youtube videos about it as compared to most board games. Is it because the game is old now and most people don't play it anymore, is it considered a dead game? I might be wrong but I dont think there's continuous editions to keep it fresh. Is it a board game that is mainly just popular in the US and not much outside of the US, I live in the UK. Just wanted some more depth regarding the game if its still relevant today and that people still play it.
Hi there, everyone! I'm pretty active in a CE Discord server. We've been playing consistently since the start of COVID, but we need a few more bodies to get our player counts up a bit.
I'll probably come back in a few days to refresh the invite link.
Hope to see some new faces!
Does Macron's ability apply only to their ships they send for offense and allying, or also for when they defend one of their planets?
Example, so if they have 4 ships on a planet being attacked, would they be worth 4 ships or 16 ships?
Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.
Your top 10 posts:
I got myself a copy of Cosmic last year and I fell in love with the game ever since I got to play it the first time. It kinda feels like a quirkier board game version of Magic the Gathering to me and I adore it. Iβd love to get into some of the expansions now, but as Iβm a poor student I have to pace myself buying them. So, as the title already lead to assume, Iβd love some opinions on which expansions are the best/first to get and which ones I can skip. Thanks a lot!
I tried getting an expansion but the local store only had the base game unfortunately );
What suggestions do yiu have for bumping up the player count? I have friends visiting out of town and want to get some games of this in before they leave!!
After 6 expansions with 190 aliens I needed to make an efficient storage solution to make set up and tear down easy. I made this probably 3 years ago and never got around to posting this.
Here is my storage solution for Cosmic and all 6 expansions.
The aliens are in a 5x8 notecard organizer, and are divided alphabetically by dividers.
The box contains everything else for the game. The player ships are individually bagged, all the cards fit sleeved in the row with dividers. All the extra bits are contained in removable center trays.
I need to make a wooden box for this game as mine is falling apart from consistent play. I've made a file using boxes.py, still untested though. May have to play with the tolerances.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for how to improve this!
Selling some minimal/never-played titles. Only Cosmic Encounter and King of Tokyo have been played. Willing to meet in person (within reason) to avoid shipping but otherwise buyer pays. Open to trades and willing to negotiate prices. More than anything I want the shelf space without resorting to putting these games in storage.

Hi.
We played CE for the first time tonight, very fun and interesting! I think we all understood most of the rules and played correctly. What I do wonder has to do with the parasites power.
Can the parasite "sneak in" and ally with a player who'd already has an ally? For example if red was attacking green and asking yellow for help, yellow accepts and then is the ally for red. Could purple(parasite) use its power and also send a ship with red? So red would have "two" allies.
Thoughts? π
I get that you can get people off your own system by drawing the destiny color you're playing on your turn. But what I don't understand is if there's a way to deal with opponents colonies on planets outside of their home system. EG. Can I (blue player) deal with the red systems colony, which is placed in the yellow players home system?
Cosmic Encounter is my favorite game and Iβve played it dozens of times with a variety of experience levels. When playing with a new group for the first time, I usually leave out the βif you have a successful first encounter you may choose to have another encounterβ because I have found that it slows down the game for the individual players.
What is the actual reason that this rule exists? To allow for more opportunities to kick someone out of your home system (rather than attempting to gain a new colony)? To help with technology cards?
Have the following available:

Cthulhu Wars - core game
Marvel United stretch goals box, maybe other expansions as well outside of Spider-Verse.
