Child Selling Puns

A company recently reached out to me, inquiring about buying my app. The app is my first app I developed (and the only one) and I developed it totally on my own. I even learned coding by developing it.

The offer is legit, but I simply do not want to sell the app. I have put so much effort and work into it, it feels like I would sell my own child to them.

Anyone experiencing the same when developing their own apps?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the input and interesting views on the topic! I did not expect that. I think I owe you an update on my final decision.

I rejected the offer and will continue developing the app myself. Here are my reasons:

• The app does really make a difference to its users. I know it from their feedback. It is an app which is built on functionality and I have always put its usability first. The buying company must get a return on investment, most likely by implementing heavy advertisement, which will destroy its usability to a certain extent.
• I have many ideas on how to further improve the app and eventually increase its audience. If I sell it, I will not be able to implement such ideas anymore.
• Developing the app, maintaining it and knowing that it is being used makes me happy. I am not sure the amount of money I would receive could compensate it.
• Yes, they might indeed be able to knock me off. This will always remain a risk. However, they do not own any code yet, so the must start from scratch (and knowing the amount of work I have put into it, I am not sure they will get a reasonable return on their investment). And even if, then they still have to compete against me.
• I consider monetizing the app myself. Might not be as lucrative as selling the app, but I think it is an experience worth making.

Finally, while it would financially make sense to sell the app, owning the app instead of the money is finally more valuable to me.

The Girl Scouts is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and selling cookies is there main source of revenue. The exces, manufacturers, etc. (all the adults) get paid meanwhile the girls get a freaking badge and some reward in lue of what anyone in sales would be earning for generating that kind of revenue. This is capitalism exploiting child labor.
