A list of puns related to "Channel Islands"
I would watch that shit all day long.
I found a podcast that has an interesting May 2020 interview with surveyor Steve Guptill. Iβm a land surveyor so I hoped to get more insight into his work in the search.
The podcast is on YouTubeβ¦ the channel is called βOak Island Podcastβ and the episode with the Guptill interview is: https://youtu.be/TjnWdL9Jq-w?t=1
The hosts are a cute couple that are in the US, Deidra and Dustin. Uber-fans to the n-th degree, they even make their own trading cards of the Oak Island cast. There are a lot of cast member interviews on the podcast list. They hold COOI trivia contests and have βpre-gameβ podcasts (Iβve just watched the Guptill interview so far). Immensely familiar with COOI, they ask pertinent questions and itβs endearing how much fun they have discussing everything Oak Island.
To drill down to the chase β In the Guptill interview, around the 43rd minute, they ask him about the βToonieβ ($2 Canadian coin) that Rick threw into hole H8 and then, at some other point in time, it was pulled out of hole RF1 which is 10 feet from H8 (Iβm relatively new to the show so Iβm not familiar with these episodes). The migration of the toonie is due to the underground βsolution channelβ.
Steve then talks about the challenge of the solution channel, which he describes as an underground mud river pushing things around. He said its location is well documented and that it is around the depth of 160 to 220 feet. Every hole they drill gives them more information about it. The drill cores will show where it is and at what depths. Or where it isnβt if the drill cores show no existence of the channel. Steve said that they have its location mapped from the data theyβve gotten from drill logs.
He also talks, in layperson terms, about his field survey work, mapping, and incorporating Fred Nolanβs survey data along with other old plans and the like into his data set. He not only uses a survey grade GPS receiver but also a conventional tripod-mounted βtotal stationβ (a combined electronic theodolite and electronic distance measuring unit).
It was a fun podcast and confirms that there is a lot more going on behind the scenes as compared to what you see boiled down for the 1 hour weekly show. Steve begs off on some of the questions, but for the most part the interview answered a lot of unknowns I had from watching the show and reading on this reddit sub. Of course, I would have liked the Q&A to go waaay deeper into the weeds as regards survey r
... keep reading on reddit β‘Has Anyone considered the channel Islands? Jersey and Guernesey have international limit of only 3 miles, so you're not too far from land and there are lot of small island (like the minquets). Also you're mostly protected from tough weather by Britany.
Iβm planning a trip there. Fly into Paris then take a train to the ferry terminal.
All the territories that arenβt part of the UK proper but arenβt too far.
This post is purely for my curiousity.
Around 18 months ago I was looking for Big 4 offices in English-speaking remote locations near the UK as a chance to get a Summer Internship while avoiding the UK Application Processes (I also have a slight obsession with islands).
During my search I looked into PWC's Channel Islands offices, and it appears that they have an office in Alderney. I was baffled by this and last night I found myself looking it up again, but can't find much info.
I guess I'm asking whether any members of this sub work for PWC Channel Islands and would know what goes on there, and why they have an office in such a random place?
(As a side note, I had success with aiming for remote locations, completed an internship in July and will be relocating for a grad scheme in August/September).
