Konsultasi dengan Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Pt.1

Hai r/finansial!

  4. Apa benefitnya dan apakah recommended?

Gue mulai dari yang pertama ya

>"Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is a formal recognition of expertise in the areas of financial planning, taxes, insurance, estate planning, and retirement (such as with 401ks). Owned and awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., the designation is awarded to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board's initial exams, then continue ongoing annual education programs to sustain their skills and certification."

  • Kenapa CFP dan dengan siapa gue berkonsultasi?

Sedikit background, gue emang nyari CFP semenjak gue udah mulai kerja.

Nick Saban asked if CFP expansion could help avoid semifinal blowouts: "If this is the best four teams and they played each other, I don’t see the logic that if we had more teams, they would be better games. I don’t see how that adds up."

I think the problem is that it's not always the four best teams, it's the teams with the fewest losses which mean schedule and all kinds of things play into it.

CFP expansion delay: The Rose Bowl’s request, the Pac-12’s support and that valuable TV window

The Rose Bowl is causing a hold up in CFP negotiations. This is because the Rose Bowl wants to be able to host a Big 10-Pac12 game on New Years Day at 5 PM eastern time even if they will not be in the rotation that year for a quarterfinal playoff game.

The expanded CFP would see the Quarterfinals being played over New Years Day time, with the semifinals and final the following weekends.

Pac 12 Commissioner admits the conference has a "fiduciary duty" to help out the Rose Bowl. Given its played at the most important time-slot of the season for TV ratings in the entire CFB season, this is a critical negotiation.

Would CFP expansion directly lead to more parity?

I'm going to be honest, I'm a senior in college and while I was exposed to CFB growing up, I only really got into it while I was in college. The current CFB landscape is the only one I've really known so obviously my opinions a derived from my young and obviously team biased perspective.

One of the most prevalent arguments against playoff expansion I see is that "All the other teams are bad and would get wiped". While that might be mostly true right now, it doesn't mean it'll be true 10 years down the line.
The way I see it, CBF is stuck in this rich get richer feedback loop. Every kid wants to win a natty. Very few teams realistically even have a chance of even getting to the playoffs. For most school, the only path they'll ever have of making to the playoffs is to go undefeated (assuming their SOS is good enough)

Lets say some team somehow captured lightning in a bottle and their team is so good that they have a 90% chance of winning every game they play, if they play a 12 game season there's only a 28% chance they go undefeated. Upsets are bound to happen. Just because they do, it doesn't directly mean that the team isn't good. This is obviously an oversimplification but the point is that there isn't currently a path for most schools to make it to the CFP

If we were to expand the CFP to autobid P5 conference champions and the best G5 team, it would directly give a much more realistic path for every school. This would mean that players don't have to go to Bama to get a shot at the playoffs. Things might not change for the first couple years but as more teams garner national exposure it could lead to recruiting being more spread out. If kids start seeing their more local teams competing in the playoffs they might not feel like they have to go elsewhere.

I would love to hear other opinions and perspectives on this. Like I said my perspective is probably pretty limited so I'm sure there's plenty of other things I haven't even considered.

Georgia now holds the second-best win % (after LSU) in the CFP and the best of any team with multiple CFP appearances.

All 13 CFP teams and their records in the playoffs since the 2014 season:

Team Record (W-L) Appearances (season year)
LSU 1.000 (2-0) 1 (2019)
Georgia .750 (3-1) 2 (2017, 2021)
Alabama .692 (9-4) 7 (2014-2018, 2020, 2021)
Clemson .600 (6-4) 6 (2015-2020)
Ohio State .500 (3-3) 4 (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020)
Oregon .500 (1-1) 1 (2014)
Oklahoma .000 (0-4) 4 (2015, 2017-2019)
Notre Dame .000 (0-2) 2 (2018, 2020)
Michigan .000 (0-1) 1 (2021)
Cincinnati .000 (0-1) 1 (2021)
Washington .000 (0-1) 1 (2016)
Michigan State .000 (0-1) 1 (2015)
Florida State .000 (0-1) 1 (2014)

What's crazy beyond Alabama's sustained performance is that they only lost in the semifinals once, in the inaugural 2014-15 playoffs.

Clemson holds the record for most consecutive CFP appearances; Alabama would have to make the next 5 to break it (entirely plausible given they probably only missed 2019 by losing a weird game to Auburn).

LSU and Ohio State hold the distinction of being the only teams to win it all their first try; it took the other 3 winners (Bama, Clemson, and Georgia) 2 tries to get their first CFP title.

And of course, to date, no one has won back-to-back titles yet (Alabama obviously coming the closest in 2016 and 2021).

Of the 13 different teams to make it, only 6 have actually won a game, and only 5 have won a title.

And good luck to Oregon in their quest to shake the distinction of now being the only team with a CFP win but no title!

-edit: Ohio State’s record was correct but missed their appearance in 2016. It was rather forgettable to be fair.

You're not crazy. These CFP rankings are unprecedentedly weird, even by the Committee's standards

Given the past few years, faith in the CFP Committee is wildly low, and it seems like they're expected to throw in some wild controversies with almost every ranking. Even with that in mind, these initial rankings are far more bizarre than any before. I wrote up some of the most unprecedented decisions made in these rankings, mostly just researched using this Wikipedia page for each year. Unless otherwise stated, each of these points refers only to the first CFP rankings in each year, usually from Week 9 of the given season. Here we go:

  • UTSA is just the second-ever undefeated team to be unranked at any point in the CFP rankings, initial or otherwise (with the exception of the bizarre 2020 covid year). The first was 2014 Marshall, who failed to break into the CFP rankings until Week 13 when they reached 11-0.
  • Alabama is the only non-undefeated team to ever be ranked in the Top 2 in the initial rankings. Previously, the earliest a non-undefeated team had been ranked in the Top 2 was 2015 Alabama in Week 10 after a win over #2 LSU. Of the 84 total Top 2 teams in all CFP rankings, only 24 had a loss.
  • Cincinnati at #6 is the lowest ranking for an undefeated team with a win over a Top 10 team
  • Cincinnati is only the second team ever to be ranked in the Top 2 in the AP poll and not ranked in the Top 4 in the CFP (2015 Baylor). Cincinnati is also tied with 2015 Baylor for the second largest drop-off for a Top 4 AP team to the CFP rankings (both #2 to #6). 2017 AP #4 Wisconsin was ranked #9 in the first CFP poll. Just got reminded that OU this year is also tied with 2015 Baylor and Cincinnati, dropping from #4 to #8
  • Alabama and Oregon are the 5th and 6th one-loss team to be ranked in the Top 4 ahead of undefeated Power 5 teams: The others were 2015 Alabama over 5 different teams, 2016 Texas A&M one spot ahead of 8-0 Washington, and 2017 Clemson and Notre Dame over 8-0 Wisconsin. This is only the second time there have been one-loss teams ranked ahead of multiple undefeated Power 5 teams (#8 Oklahoma and #9 Wake Forest are behind both, while #3 Michigan State is ranked behind Alabama)
  • Alabama is just the 4th non-undefeated team ranked in the Top 4 without a win over a current top 10 team (2015 Alabama, 2017 Notre Dame and Clemson)
  • Oregon is only the second top 4 team to have a loss to an unranked team (2017 Clemson), while Alabama’s loss to Texas A&M is the 5th
