A list of puns related to "Celtic Warfare"
I have found it to be very difficult to find accurate information regarding the military tactics of the pre-Roman peoples of Britain and Ireland. I have mostly found websites which I do find completely trustworthy and the Greco-Roman sources were often made as propaganda. Most of these sources depict the Britons as simply throwing a volley of javelins and then running into the enemy. I question these accounts as I feel that they could have easily developed basic tactics such as a shield wall. What would a professional's opinion on this be?
Did the average barbarian warrior have a missile weapon alongside his sword and shield?
I made a similar question about the Hittite Empire and got such beautiful responses from such intellectual people. I have a similar question like that one, but it's about the Celtic people. Examples that come to mind are Gaul and even Britons/Pictish. What does anyone here know of them and their daily life (hierarchal system), beliefs (I'm aware it was Celtic Mythology, but what else can people share about the mythology?), customs (ways of life), and even ways of warfare? We know that Caesar conquered the Gauls, but what is known about the Gauls/Celts all over?

The Celts were originally a diverse group of tribes stretching from Ireland. Their rich Iron Age culture continues to influence the art and culture of the modern world. Among the most utilized Celtic symbols were those based on animal forms. In Celtic mythology birds were associated with death transitions. "Claw out of the usual, and fly into more unusual methods to accomplish your goals. "
Hi there. I am a historian student and I'd like to write my bachelorpaper on Celtic Warfare. Not against Romans but among other Celtic Tribes. I wonder if some of you know some sources from this topic? Your help is greatly appreciated :)
#What Is This?
Almost 10 years ago a user organized a vote of everyone's favorite albums which the mods have been using in welcome packages for new people. We wanted to update the list with music from the last ten years as well as a wider pool of participants. In total, 273 Users submitted a list of 50 albums with no more than two albums per band,. The users voted in total for 3361 albums from 1970 - 2021.
A list of everyone's favorite albums isnt a definitive list of essential and important heavy metal rather the collection of albums people enjoy. Imagine if you asked a room full of people their favorite records. This is what it is. What all lists can be are tools for people to discover new metal. No one cares what #1 is versus #317 rather this is a collected list of what 273 people found to be their favorite metal record when asked. If it is helpful or enlighten to you, then it is successful. If you find one record off of this to listen to then this list did its job.

*MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR ETERNALS!!!*
Sersi:
Named after the sorceress Circe from Greek mythology, well known from tale of The Odyssey. One of Circe's most well-known aspects is her ability to transform her enemies, typically into animals. Sersi's power-set of matter transmutation is similar to this. Although ironically, changing living things is incredibly difficult for Sersi to do (sorry, Dane).
Another aspect of Circe is her well-known troubles with love, including lovers who end up leaving her, something we can safely say Sersi is familiar with considering her story with Ikaris.
A big difference would be in the form of their morality, as while Sersi is an all-loving hero, Circe very much is not and can be vengeful/jealous.
Ikaris:
Named after the son of the inventor Daedalus, Icarus, which is explicitly referenced here. We're all aware of the story and its message: a young boy with wings of wax who ignored the warnings of his beloved father and flew too close to the sun, burning up and falling to his death.
Not only do both have the ability of flight, but both ignore the warnings of others and view their course of action as in the right. And like Icarus, it leads to Ikaris flying too close to the sun.
Interestingly, while Icarus is far younger than his Eternal counterpart, Ikaris arguably shares some of that more naive, childlike nature, like a kid hoping to appease their parents.
And as Kingo points out, a comparison can be made to Peter Pan as a flying character who never truly grows up. Like how Pan never grows out of being a child, Ikaris is the one who never grows out of his programming or develops a life outside of his mission.
Sprite:
Rather than being named for a person, Sprite's name comes from an entire species, sprites, creatures of European folklore similar to fairies and elves. In the myths, interchangeable with fairies, sprites are known for being playful and child-like, but can cause trouble for humans, being cute but potentially dangerous.
With Sprite, the emphasis is on her child-like nature as well how she's willing to turn on humanity, that she can appear like an small kid but can shank a woman if the situation calls for it.
Comparisons can also be made to Peter Pan or Tinkerbell, with Sprite and Pan both being immortals who can never grow up, and Tinkerbell being a magical childlike character plagued with jealousy.
And finally, you can make a comparison to Shakespeare's

Morale on the military vessel is low and everyone is on edge. Pawd'rig could cut the tension in the air with a knife. If he had a knife that could he decidedly wouldn't as he is afraid of what might come crawling out of it. For the majority of the standard day and at truly random intervals the speakers would blast out the most horrendous screaming, wailing and sobbing. It sounds like a woman watching her entire family from her parents and siblings to her lover and children are simultaneously being butchered in front of her. Talk around the ship has been they are not looped recordings. Each one is individual and different.
The screams have set everyone on edge. Many here have been the cause of such screams. Or had to watch as others caused it. So to hear it decontextualized from actual violence and in their normal lives light years from where any ghosts could be was blood chilling.
Pawd'rig thinks he knows what it is and what it means but he won't tell. He's afraid if he says it then it will come true. He concentrates very hard at not eating his food before him. It's taking him everything to not start blabbering about the demons he saw in the Nether when he was young. The demon had expositioned about how they'd sweep into his universe to bathe in blood in the name of their blood god. He plays with his food to not think about them.
They're the reason he has this awful life. At the time he was playing at being a criminal and someday becoming a famous outlaw however meeting literal demons intent on eating your universe tends to set one straight. He'd joined the military because he knew there was an existential threat out there that must be combated. His general anti-war views are very looked down upon so he keeps them to himself. In all his short career he's never actually shot someone. Itβs not that his aim is terrible it's just he didnβt sign up for what the military actually want him to do. He let's people go, misses finding people in searches, he doesn't abuse prisoners, turns a blind eye to contraban. Because that's not what he signed up for.
As he musters up the concentration to bring the spoon to his mouth he, and everyone else in the mess hall, hears the sign of imminent screaming and wailing. That electronic tchk sound. The harbinger of anguish and pain. For their ears. The entire room falls into s

After the withdrawal of the Roman Legions from their province of Britannia in the fifth century (410 is the main attested date), the Island came under raiding and settlement by Germanic peoples (Jutes, Frisians, Angles, Saxons etc.) that we now call the Anglo Saxons. These newcomers would completely alter the course of history in both the British isles and the wider world, driving the native Brythonic/Celtic Britons into the extreme west of the Island (Wales and Cornwall) and Brittany, and seriously endangering their languages and cultures to the point of near extinction in some cases.
In this alternate timeline, the Britons prove to be more effective at warfare and are able to defend their lands from both the Pictish raiders to their North and the Germanic peoples to the East. What would the ramifications of a Celtic Britain and how would the history of the British Isles, Europe and the entire World have changed without the English as we know them?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

USA - Manifest Destiny - Essentially the belief in the 1800s that it was America's God given destiny and mission to take as much land as possible and expand as far West as it could. In Civ 5 certainly does a decent job at grabbing land faster, although I kinda wish that America's UA encouraged a more ICS type of strategy that contrasts the Tall focus of Civ 5.
Arabia - Ships of the Desert - The Arabian Empire, and the area in general, was a major hub of trade (which makes sense considering that it is at the center of three continents). I like its reference to the Hajj and to how much oil is in the area. I just wish it was a little bit more powerful in the game.
Assyria - Treasures of Nineveh - The Assyrians were quite fascinated with the works and knowledge of the people they conquered. Particularly noteworthy was the Library of Ashurbanipal, which contains the Epic of Gilgamesh, the earliest know written work and a wonderful story to boot. An interesting role playing ability that unfortunately is not as powerful as it seems.
Austria - Diplomatic Marriage - Although diplomatic marriage was an extremely common practice among European royals, the Hapsburg Dynasty was by far the most successful at using Diplomatic Marriage for their benefit, essentially creating the Austria-Hungary Empire. I like the creativity, although it is more of a role-playing ability.
Aztec - Sacrificial Captives - The Aztecs were notorious for adopting human sacrifice as a major ritual in their religion, so much so that it likely contributed to their downfall as their subjugated rivals resented them for it. A simple, yet well done and easy to understand UA.
Babylon - Ingenuity - Considering that we still use their 60 number system for time, it makes sense to see how the Babylonian civilization, one of the first advanced civilizations out there, still impacts us. It's really damn powerful as well.
Brazil - Carnival - Brazil is extremely famous for its annual Carnival, which combines indigenous and Christian customs to showcase what Brazilian culture really is like. A fun ability that gives Brazil a nice niche in this game.
Byzantium - Patriarchate of Constantinople - The Byzantines, essentially being the continuation of the Roman Empire, were at the center of Christianity for a while, considering that the foundation for the Byzantine empire was established by Constantine, the first openly Christian Roman Emperor. Byzantine obviously needed a religious flair, but I
