A list of puns related to "Calcifediol"
I have dysbiosis and when I take D3 even with plenty of magnesium and k I get insomnia and weird mineral imbalances that cause low blood pressure, eye twitching and RLS. Searching for an alternative form I found this, curious if anyone has tried it?
"
Chronic malabsorption can cause malnutrition, leading to poor liver function and reduced ability to hydroxylate vitamin D3 to D3-25OH, subsequently inducing calcium metabolic derangements and lower bone density.
Calcifediol βΒ a preformed D3-25OH and an easier absorbed (due to an extra hydroxy group) form of vitamin D βΒ bypasses the need for hepatic conversion of D3 to D3-25, and helped the index patient achieve impressive outcomes in 2-6 months.
Findings suggest using calcifediol in persons with refractory hypovitaminosis D and hypocalcemia in the setting of advanced gastrointestinal malabsorption."
Hello all, I have a diagnosed vitamin D deficiency and am considering treating it with calcifediol as I can not tolerate other forms of vitamin D due to side effects, calcifediol was recommended as a possible way around these side effects (magnesium is not an option for me). I found the following product on Amazon which recommends a daily intake of 20 mcg (2400 iu), however this product makes no mention on the package pictures as to how long the supplement should be taken, just 2 gel caps a day.
My questions I would appreciate any help with are;
How soon after starting it should I get my levels tested again?
Is there more of a risk of overdose with long term use of this dosage of calcifediol as compared to a comparable dosage of cholecalciferol D3?
For about how long is it safe to take calcifediol daily at this dosage?
For reference, my current levels are 13 ng/ml.
I wanted to try calcifediol because I don't tolerate regular vitamin D without anxiety/insomnia and hypercalcemia symptoms (not confirmed by labs).
However I read that calcifediol, unlike calcitriol, is a vitamin D receptor inhibitor.
To my knowledge this is not a good thing? I asked the company and they told me to have a discussion with my physician if I have personal concerns using calcifediol.
Obviously I'm not going to get an appointment with my doc to talk about a supplement that she has no knowledge of.
How does this ring to you? What long term implications do you think there could be with chronic VDR inhibition?
Hello all, I had seen someone recommend on here the use of the calcifediol form of vitamin D supplements in order to reduce the side effects found with the other forms of vitamin D. Is there anyone here who uses it? What is your experience (any side effects, effectiveness)?
For those who are wondering what calcifediol is, it is what's formed in the next step of the process by the liver in metabolizing the usual cholecalciferol-D3 into the active form that the body uses (further steps are required to reach the end product). The user I saw recommending it said that one could avoid requiring the use of magnesium for side effects since it is not needed to metabolize it. According to Wikipedia, " Calcifediol may have advantages over cholecalciferol for the correction of vitamin D deficiency states.[4] A review of the results of nine randomized control trials which compared oral doses of both, found that calcifediol was 3.2-fold more potent than cholecalciferol.[4] Calcifediol is better absorbed from the intestine and has greater affinity for the vitamin-D-binding protein, both of which increase its bioavailability.[18] Orally administered calcifediol has a much shorter half-life with faster elimination.[18] These properties may be beneficial in people with intestinal malabsorption, obesity, or treated with certain other medications.[18] "
I found a calcifediol product on Amazon and will be receiving it in a few days and will leave a report on how the experience goes. With regular vitamin D3, I get extreme anxiety and insomnia, magnesium supplementation helps somewhat, but then I get other side effects from the magnesium. I have a diagnosed vitamin D deficiency so I am really hoping I can tolerate this form better than the others!
Iβve been taking daily 5000 iU of D3 as I think most people here are.
Would there be an advantage to taking Calcifediol instead? Is the advantage only that less pills have to be taken?
Hereβs a link I found about it but wanted to hear from you.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 82%. (I'm a bot)
> Oral calcifediol, the main metabolite of vitamin D3, reduced ICU admission from 50% to 2% among Covid-19 patients.
> Calcifediol is also 3.2-fold more effective than native vitamin D3 supplements in restoring low blood levels of vitamin D3.The researchers also did not measure the vitamin D3 levels of the patients, but they were probably deficient based on prior population data.
> Why calcifediol over native vitamin D3?Calcifediol is the actual hormonal effector of vitamin D3. Upon contact with sun rays, the skin makes vitamin D3, which can also be taken as a supplement.
> In this sense, calcifediol is a better biomarker for the body's stores of vitamin D3.Calcifediol is also 3.2-fold more effective than native vitamin D3 supplements in restoring low blood levels of vitamin D3. Because normal vitamin D3 needs to undergo liver processing first, which is not required for calcifediol.
> In a paper published September in JAMA Network Open involving 489 Covid-19 patients, those likely deficient in vitamin D3 had a 1.77-times increased risk of testing positive for Covid-19 than those with likely sufficient levels.
> How does vitamin D3 help fight Covid-19?From a mechanistic standpoint, vitamin D3 and Covid-19 both target similar physiological systems - namely the renin-angiotensin system and immune system.
