A list of puns related to "Boosey"
I am intesting to buy a baritone saxophone in used state, and I saw two models in the same price line and conservance state. But both is unkown manufacturer for me. I made some search, and I saw information about Boosey and Hawkes, but nothing about Alfredo Santoni. What is the best manufaturer? Are both entry level instruments?
Here what is exactly carved at saxophone's campanas:
Alfredo Santoni Giglia Pare
Boosey and Hawkes Edgware
I'd like to know the people's take on this tuba if anyone here has played one?
I just got a 1981 EEb for Β£[redacted amount], the intonation seems ok enough but required a bit of work compared to out of the box (with all tuning slides pushed in). Pedal Eb to (what was supposed to be) E natural (i.e. open to 1234) was almost an entire tone in difference
It seems ok, I'm trying to work out if there's any quirks of intonation specific to the instrument, if i just need to lip it up or down now to compensate for the instrument naturally.
Anyways, people's thoughts on the make, as it has a good reputation but i was very surprised with the intonation at first, tuning slides have mostly done the trick but it's not as nice as the sovereign I've been borrowing
P.s. much of the price reflects the aesthetic... inadequacies of the instrument, shall we say. But the tone is lovely
Looking to buy a khachaturian score, what publisher would you recommend?
So I keep seeing Boosey & Hawkes compensating euphoniums for way cheaper prices than Besson, but most descriptions say theyβre just βpre-bessonβ euphoniums.
Do they have the same quality instruments?
Hello everyone, I am new to the world of brass instruments and have only been learning the trumpet for a few months, and today I stumbled on an ad for a vintage euphonium (I think it is at least, excuse my ignorance). I'm very excited about this since I live in Egypt and finds like this are not common. I would love to buy it but I don't know how to asses it's condition/worth since I can only go off of the photos available which I've linked: https://imgur.com/a/w6jMBMT
Keep in mind I definitely cannot afford to buy a new one, and this one is being offered at the equivalent of $200
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Iβve just acquired one of these clarinets and have a couple of weeks to try it out and decide if Iβm going to keep it or not. I want to give it the best chance possible, so Iβm wondering if there are any general rules regarding the brand and strength ofreed to use with a wider board clarinet and mouthpiece. For example is it usually better to use a softer or harder reed then you usually play on when using this design of instrument? Or should you just stick with the same read? Any advice is very much appreciated.
Hey, been playing a B&H champion and saw an Emperor for sale on Facebook. I don't know an awful lot about them but know the Emperor is from the 50's/60's. Its in amazing condition and unfortunately I am having to give them up due to moving. Anyone have any idea of their worth?
I'll be learning the flute for the first time ever and I found some flutes online that I can afford. Here:
and
Please give me advice on how to choose. Thank you!
Hi,
I've been playing saxophone for about 6 years, and have been wanting to learn a brass instrument for a really long time. My friend and I were trying to find a trumpet for me to play that was cheap, but everything was about $200-300+. He found a cornet from Boosey and Hawkes for about $100. Its lacquer is rubbed off in a lot of spots, but there is a video of them playing the cornet in the item description, and it played beautifully. Would this be a good purchase for someone just looking to learn a brass instrument on the side without having to spend a lot of money?
Also, is there a cornet mouthpiece size you'd recommend for a reed player?
Thanks!

Serial number is 36872, and somehow isn't in terrible shape, it only needs the odd new spring and a recorking job and it'll play.
If you know any recourses I can use, people or organisations I should contact please let me know, because despite the commission I'll get I'm genuinely interested in finding out about this instrument.
Thanks in advance
(Edit 1) I just found a catalogue of serial numbers for B&H instruments from the Horniman museum in London that dates it to 1951
Hello there, I was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinions/knowledge on my french horn. It is a Boosey and Hawkes Imperial french horn. I cannot find much information on the web (besides the fact it is 40-50 years old) but if anyone could point me in the right direction too, thatd be swell. Thank you in advance!

I currently have a Boosey and Hawkes Emperor that i absolutely love and is a joy to play but everybody i know keeps telling me that Buffet are better, is this true?
Hello everyone! New to the sub, hopefully this is okay to post here.
I recently came into the opportunity to purchase a Boosey & Hawkes Regent clarinet, SN 442207 (which I believe means it was manufactured in 1949?). The seller isn't a clarinetist themself, so information is fairly vague on the instrument, but they believe it is a wooden Regent with nickel silver keywork. It needs some new tenon corks but is otherwise undamaged.
I wondered if anyone knew what such an instrument would be able to sell for, provided it was refurbished and polished up? I know B&H sold a variety of Regents (plastic, wooden, with nickel or mazak keywork) around this time, so I've found it very hard to come across any reliable pricing information.
Thanks in advance!
Hi okay, so basically, I have a boosey and hawkes regent trombone, serial number is 445717 but wherever I search I can not find a year it was made or a rough price estimate! Anyone can help?
I've noticed that Boosey and Hawkes published pieces tend to put the bass clarinets up in the clarion register rather than down in the chalmeau where they're prettier. In fact, looking at the bass part for Sea Songs, I see that the lowest note written is an Eb at the bottom of the staff. The 3rd and 4th clarinets end up down on their right hand, but why not the basses?
(I won't even start complaining about the alto clarinet part, which is partly 4Clar and partly alto sax. At least the basses occasionally get to harmonize rather than playing tutti.)
I found Boosey & Hawks sessionaire for about 670 USD. it has a few ding here and there but it doesn't seem like anything critical. i've read on trumpet master that its pretty good and worth the money, but the trumpet has been on sale for over a year, and i found another one for under 650 USD (Though it was out of my reach) Have any of you played one? Is it worth the money? I'm looking for a jazz trumpet that i can use for a long time, if this isn't it do you have any recommendations?
I know it's an older British brand. How do they compare with the newer, more modern euphonium models?
Hi r/Clarinet
I am going through my father in laws estate and have found a Boosey & Hawkes Clarinet. It is silver, serial no. 33145.
I have seen their records to determine its age but have no idea of value. Is anyone able to offer some knowledge please?
Cheers
