Ladies and Gentlemen Hello and thank you very much for inviting me to this wonderful Hospital to speak today. I'm very much looking forward to discussing the Conservative health and social care policy. This hospital is one centre which will be receiving a massive funding boost because of the last conservative budget. In that budget we brought 12 Billion pounds more to health, ringfencing 10 Billion of that for the NHS. This spending will ensure that people are not waiting in ambulances for hours on end and everyone gets the treatment they deserve. I worked with the education secretary and the health secretary in producing this budget and we all wanted to ensure that those who are most vulnerable had the best care that this could give them. Therefore, we gave those with learning difficulties an extra 1 Billion pounds in funding. Furthermore, we ensured that we treat mental health as a serious problem. Over 70,000 children used antidepressants this year. Furthermore, we know there are many people who might need help for a mental health issue, but who aren’t accessing the services available. This needed to change, therefore we provided an extra 4 Billion pounds of spending to tackle the mental health crisis. In addition to this increase in spending we also brought in a massive increase in spending on our frontline staff. We needed to be fair to Doctors, nurses, and midwives. We wanted to give them the best possible working environment and their patients the best standard of care possible. That is why we are increasing the budget for GP’s by £3 Billion, £1 Billion more on maternity, and £3 Billion on A&E.
However, I also wish to talk to you about future conservative policy on health. Around the room I can already see many nurses, all of you have been through the same degree and programme to become a nurse. However, I, and the Conservatives believe that this way is not the best way. We believe that since nursing is a hands-on job, apprentices are a very appropriate way of educating new nurses. The classroom can only teach so much, and what makes a good nurse a great nurse is on the job experience and a great attitude. That is what we believe this policy will deliver.
