Alley Restaurants is seldom discussed here and seeing as the last ever episode screens this week, it's overdue for some praise. Aside from Running Man, this is the only long-running weekly variety show I watch religiously, and I can safely say I've seen every single episode, back to the Food Truck series and even before that when it was strictly a mukbang show.
Food and eating (along with customary overreactions) will always be a big part of Korean TV and pop-culture but this show absolutely transcended that trope. It was about so much more than the food. I loved and will miss its holistic approach to the restaurant industry and the diversity of what it covered: from hygiene, to customer service, to personal relationships (how often did it stray into marriage and family counselling?), to menu and inventory management, to kitchen design and workflow, to business and marketing common sense, to ingredients and prime cost, to seemingly everything else in between. I have no ambitions of opening a restaurant but know having watched the show that I've acquired a wealth of know-how if I ever wanted to. Put all the episodes together, and it's basically a masterclass for amateurs on running a restaurant.
Although many types of cuisines were repeated during its run, literally ever restaurant had a different set of problems. And Baek Jong Won never once handed out the solution. He made the owners work hard and find a way themselves first. Only when they proved themselves would he work his magic. (My favourite moments? When he would go into the kitchen, take an existing recipe and ingredients, change nothing but the tiniest step in the process β maybe the order of stir frying, the pace of cooking, or the strength of the fire on the pan β and completely transform the taste of an average dish.) For some people, I know watching an angry or disappointed Baek lay into restaurateurs was a downer, but I personally found his scolding highly entertaining and cathartic β because let's be honest, it was usually justified.
I don't know if there's been any news of Baek joining a new SBS variety food show β I mean, if he still intends to be on TV, it makes sense he would, though who knows what the concept would be this time β but for now we'll just have to make do with Paik Class on KBS. If you have any favourite restaurants/owners/moments, post them below. Or just keep dreaming, like me, that one day you'll get to visit Jeju Island and taste that legendary tonkatsu!

The first time she met Hobin, she suddenly slapped him and then hugged him? This is normal thinking that you've just reborn, you are going to meet the one being with you when you were dying. People who usually read isekai manga will completely understand it =)))))
After hugging Hobin, she turn her back to him and walk away without any explanation. It can be explaned that even SJ couldn't believe that he had become a woman and many other reasons. But the main reason maybe because he's afraid that Hobin will not believe. How can he believe while even SJ couldn't? π₯²
The action of taking off her (his) clothes and cursing Hobin "stupid".
Taking off her shirt while standing in front of the mirror -> check the new body. Most of people will act like this when they've just returned from death and recognize that they are in a strange body, especially when a man became a woman.
Cursing Hobin "stupid" -> SJ thought that Hobin had been very foolish and hasty, and he was too naive handing the USB over to Hobin.
As we all know, HTF is in the same universe with Lookism (Both Mr.Kim and Yohan met Taehoon). So why can't the theory of two bodies be true? If you look more carefully, you will notice that the girl's ears and eyebrows look slightly like SJ's =))))))
