Supplementary sign-language, gestures, and avoidance speech?

Hey all, I was reading up on some Australian Aboriginal languages and the interconnection between spoken and sign languages that frequent communities primarily due to taboo and avoidance speech. Sometimes the sign language is swapped to entirely, and other times there is avoidance speech where there is a separate spoken lexical set. (Please correct me if I'm mistaken)

I suppose my question is mostly speculative as I'm not sure if any of these languages or any other (known) languages to fall under this idea but...

Are there any languages/or would it be a possible linguistic phenomenon to have a manually coded language in place of a typical spoken lexical set variation used during avoidance speech? As a possible sort of supplementary MLC?

There is Warlpiri, but that appears to have a full signed mode of the spoken language, versus just a subset supplementary system meant for avoidance speech...

On a secondary note, I recently reread Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles and his language "Adem" has a combination of both spoken language and signed "language." I put the second language in quotes since the signed portion is less a full language and more a supplementary addition to spoken word in order to express emotion. If adding Italian gesticulation into the equation, would it be more likely to have supplementary MLC or just extreme gesticulation in a language?

Does any of your conlangs use avoidance speech?

If so, how did you implement it? How did you decide which words were to be banned? How do speakers go around the ban; do they use synonyms, paraphrases, or do they substitute a phoneme of the word with another? Which situations trigger the use of avoidance speech? And what about the paralinguistic parameters; do the speakers have to behave differently? I'm not asking for examples of avoidance speech in natlangs; that I can look up on the internet. I'm curious about the system you came up with in your conlangs. I want to use it as a feature for a new project.

avoidance/honorific speech general

do any of you use systems of avoidance speech, honorific speech or otherwise address politeness in your languages?

for a language I've been working on recently, named proto-second, carali or, natively mbhΕ«si, there are three processes:

β€’ humble speech, used when talking about one's own actions. it is used to express humility, or selflessness, and places importance on the one being spoken to. this is used very often, when talking to people of both lower and higher social standing or class. it is generally omitted only within a family, and between male friends. this only inflects on verbs and pronouns and is reflected in vocabulary.

'ewa ghΔ“sΔ“ sōt mbhΔ«sāthipan'
[ewa Κ•eːseː soːt ᡐbΚ±iːsɑːtΚ°ipan]
1s.humb house-hon.adp to.hon humb-go.pst.1s
I went to the house. (humble)

the prefix 'mbhīsāthi-' originates from 'mbhī' permission, blessing and the preposition 'sāthi' meaning with, by, next to.

β€’ respectful speech, used when talking about the actions of a superior or elder, when in mourning for a deceased friend or relative, and in celebration of a birth, marriage or inaugration of a boss, chief, mayor, king etc. reflected in vocabulary, pronouns, verbal morphology and syntax.

'dΔ“ka halthanā nΓ¦m bhΔ“nnΔ“'
[deːka haltʰanaː næm bʱeːnːeː]
3sm.resp guard-hon.abl neg live.pst-pst.resp.3sm
He died because of the guard.

contrasted with a non-respectful form of the same statement:

dΔ“ halthyn lΘ³myn
[deː haltΚ°Ι™n lɜːmΙ™n]
3sm guard-abl die.pst-pst.3sm
He died because of the guard.

note the use of the euphemism 'nem bhΔ«' to not live, not be in place of 'lΘ³m' to die.

β€’ word beautification, or honorifics, used in polite circumstances. inflects on adjectives and nouns.

'ΕΊΗ£n' [zʲæːn] woman -> 'ΕΊΔ“nkΔ“' woman (nominative honorific)

this varies with case, as well:

'źǣn' -> 'źānkā' of woman (genitive honorific)

so how does everyone else do this?

Dynamic Jamming Avoidance Speech

Letting those outside of this emailing list or those who dont check your email often, know about this interesting event going on!

CS Colloquia: Yih-chun Hu 17 Jan, 2013 3:40pm Location: B29 Atanasoff

Abstract: Wireless networks are subject to jamming, an effective method for Denial-of-Service, because attackers and normal users have similar capabilities when accessing the wireless medium. In this talk, I will discuss two jamming related problems. First, I will describe a novel improvement on jamming-resilient broadcast in the absence of shared secrets. Continuing on work in uncoordinated spread spectrum, we show that spatial spreading through the use of directional antennas has significant advantages over more traditional approaches that use frequency- and code-division, by forcing the adversary to jam in a narrowband manner. I then will describe an approach to wireless spectrum reservations that exhibits good performance even when the adversary uses reservation information to jam more effectively. Specifically, I consider the problem that medium reservations allow legitimate users to avoid interfereing with each other, but also provide jammers with valuable information about where to transmit. I present the Simple Transmitter Strategy and Simple Signaling Scheme, which provide simple but highly effective approaches that allow a legitimate transmitter to share information only with other legitimate nodes.

How to avoid The speech?

Hi everyone! Hope y'all doing great

Update 2: after the last update she just sent me some messages, I left her on read for 1 or 2 days, but then she sent me some messages apologizing and recognising her flaws. Just then, I replied her messages saying that because I've never heard a apologize before I am hoping that she really meant it and recognize that I don't have any fault for her feelings of abandonment and she is the one who has to change in order to our relationship improve. Looks like she got it, though I'm sure that she wont change that easy, but if she really recognized her fault thats a huge step. Generally she always finds a way to distort what I say and tell it's my fault, but I didn't let her do it this time

Update: she called me basically to say that I am stupid, I've hurt her and she wanted to make me feel guilty. I told her clearly that I had nothing to regret, she was the one that acted out, not me and I didn't want to talk about last night so I was hanging up. She tried to change the subject to ask things about why I moved away, (talking about abandonment again). I hang up and then later she tries to call me again. But I wont call her back today. I fear for her feelings get worse but if I call her I won't be consistent in what I said earlier.

Tl;dr: we had ''a fight'' last night then I just decided not stay up to hear the speech, I wasn't very well. She left me 48 missed calls and a couple of 3min audio on whatsapp, and today she will probably call me to give her tamper tantrum and punish me for ''abandon'' her

Yesterday my Bpdmom called me two times after 10pm, at this moment I had just left my bed to grab something in the fridge and then I wanted to go back to bed to sleep, I wasn't very well, but I saw the missed calls and made the mistake to call her back. She answered with "where are you?" (this just triggered me because she knows where I am... It was like saying "Since you're not available at the time I call you, you must be betraying me" or something) then I justified why I didn't answered her calls. Then she said that she was afraid of her doctor appointment today, she hasn't seen a gynecologist in years and she was afraid of a bad diagnose (she wanted me to soothe her). I just said that I wasn't very well, I didn't want to talk and I'd call her today. Now, she was triggered "I can believe you're saying this, I call you because I'm afraid of being told I have cancer and will you just hang up?".Note: She's healthy, It's just a
