So I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this but in the comics—at least the ones that I’ve read, including “Flowers for Rhino” in Spider-Man: Tangled Web and part of Reginald Hudlin’s run on Black Panther—is that despite being Russian, rarely have I ever seen Aleksei Sytsevich written with a Russian accent. Instead he’s written to have what almost sounds like a Bronx or Brooklyn accent (like he’s had on Spider-Man: The Animated Series, in the Spider-Man video game in 2000, and what Alex O’Hirn speaks with on The Spectacular Spider-Man). But now in some adaptations like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Spider-Man PS4, he’s portrayed with a heavy Russian accent. Has anyone else noticed this?
Black Widow has had this happen as well but much less than Rhino, nowadays she usually has an American accent. Not that it’s a huge issue but I just find it interesting that certain adaptations play fast and loose with what accent Rhino has. Does anyone prefer him as Russian and is it important to his character or not really?
