Aland Puns

Hey Folks,

I have a two week break from work from mid-December to early January and I am wondering about touring Sweden and Finland during this time. How is Aland during the winter? Are there any events taking place during this time? How expensive would hotels run me during this time? Could I take a ferry from Turku Finland to get there or is it better another way?

We interrupt this rerun of Big Bang theory to bring you some Breaking News ladies and gentlemen. We have just received a report that the Russian armed forces have invaded the Island of Aland. We now send you live to our eyes on the ground in Moscow Chris P. Bacon.

Dire news coming from Europe today, we've just received word that the Russian armed forces have seized the island of Aland, and have placed an estimated 1700 airborne troops on the island. No deaths on any side have been reported and the Russians are said to be acting in a professional manner. A statement from the Russian government states "We hope that this bloodless invasion will lead to a de-escalation of the situation with Finland. We have already reached out to the Republic of France to mediate negotiations between our two nations."

Summary:

The landing by the VDV and the subsequent naval blockade are a success. All 1700 VDV troops have set up base on the island and have been lodging in the local hotels to the delight of the soldiers. Only one soldier was injured, a cadet by the name of Vladimir Alexeev who tripped on a rock and broke his leg.

The Naval blockade is going well but due to the limited docking space for such large ships and lack of major fuel reserves on the island the logistics are a bit shaky.

The civilian population has been nervous as they are not used to large numbers of troops on their islands and hope that the Russians do not become violent if the conflict extends.

Aland Islands Regiment

With the intervention of France in an effort to avoid war, Finland has been brought to heel, conceding to all of our demands and the reparations for our lost soldiers lives. As such the Aland Islands regiment and its equipment will be transported back to Russia along with a full withdrawal of our forces.

The invasion has shown that Russia is still capable of wielding destructive force within Europe, backing Europe into a conflict in which their only choices where capitulation or destruction, as has become evident, Europe will attempt all avenues to avoid destruction.

The Aland conflict has become a great experimental success as a result.

Due to the EU getting angry at Finland for stationing troops on the Aland islands they will be leaving as soon as possible. Two Pohjanmaa class vessels will be moving around the islands but not docking or getting closer than 1 km.

NOTE: The additional reinforcements are no longer part of this conflict as per a discussion with France in the discord so we can have a round of diplomacy before he is forced to start the EU-Russian war.

In his speech, President Putin promised a kinetic response to attacks upon the Russian Federation by the Finnish Republic. Multiple avenues have been explored for what this might be by the Russian central command, with options such as a strike on Helsinki or Turku being posited, before instead we settled on something else.

We're going to take the Aland Islands.

A Short Explanation

The Aland Islands are an archipelago in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Finland. Since the early 1900s they have been an autonomous province due to the fact that Sweden and Finland had a row over who the islands belong to, in the end the league of nations, the EU and the UN all agreed that they belong to Finland, however the people on them are all Swedish. The most important fact of all however is that under the terms of the Aland Islands Agreement, the archipelago is a DMZ, not a single item of military equipment or radar is present on the islands, the people are exempt from national service and even the police are not armed.

As such it makes a really good target for a Russian invasion.

Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Broadcast

The key to taking the Aland's is surprise so obviously we arent just going to announce we're doing this. Instead we're going to go all sneaky about it, sort of. The Baltic Fleet has been preparing for this for some time, with their exercises in the Baltic Sea and the VDV practicing amphibious landings in Kaliningrad in the Broadsword exercises.

There will be two fleets.

Command Force Seal: The job of command force one is to be the distraction fleet. It will sail up the Gulf of Bothnia, remaining in international waters the entire way and basically looking pretty scary given it outguns the entire Finnish navy.

Assault Force Pingu: Assault Force Pingu is the real prize, the amphibious landing force. Comprised of a number of ships of the Baltic Fleet amphibious force, it will approach the Aland Islan

The troops and their supporting military equipment (tanks, radar equipment, air defense systems, even some helicopters) entered the islands through multiple cargo ships docked at the ports. The islands are seized with varying degrees of resistance put up - the Aland Islands, a Finnish autonomous island, is demilitarized as a result of the 1856 Paris Peace Treaty and poses no threat to the occupying forces, while Gotland, a Swedish island which has a small military force, puts up a fierce resistance against the invading forces but is forced to surrender after suffering 40% military casualties and the Russians threaten to bomb civilian targets on the island.

As Swedish, Finnish, and NATO forces go on high alert, Russia declares a no fly zone within 10 kilometers of both islands and states they will not attack the Swedish or Finnish mainland, nor will they attack any civilian shipping or NATO forces in the area (unless in self defense). They also will allow for an evacuation within 72 hours for all civilians and defeated military forces from the islands. Any one that is left will be deemed as enemy combatants and will be jailed. To enforce this, they send several squadrons of attack fighter jets and interceptors to both islands along with ships from the Baltic Fleet.

With this seizure, Russia effectively has control of the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea chokepoints, and more importantly Finland and the Baltic states are cut off by sea. Their plan is to build military bases on the islands and turn them into heavily fortified areas much like Kaliningrad.

Can Sweden and Finland (along with NATO) dislodge the Russian military forces through diplomacy or by military force?

Hey guys, mostly just the title. I moved recently here with the job and I'm looking to lower my habit of smoking here, you know, new place, new life, new me bla bla. I have a couple of friends who suggested no-nicotine vapes so I still get the feeling of smoking until I get rid of the nicotine addiction.

Do you know any place where I could get vapes from? I read a little bit on the internet about it and it seems that I can't order any due to Finnish Tobacco Act. Do I have to go to Finland and buy directly from there or is there an easier way?
