⚔️ Crypto Quest - Are you ready to be the hero ⚔️
Just finished Vampyr and loved every bit of it.
Things I liked:
Protagonist - British with a lawful evil voice, with a lot of teasing and flirty language, so fitting for a vampire RP for that time period
Setting - 1918 London during the Spanish Flu pandemic. The map layout took inspiration from Dark Souls and Bloodborne, that's for sure. Looks really good.
Focus - your character is depicted as a champion but at the same time the threat level as depicted is city level only. I think that's a good balance to contain the game to a more local and personal setting.
In game lore - lots of things to read, but evenly spaced out and not tiring. No unnecessary lore dump.
Consequences - I liked how specific choices affect main quests and side quests. For a specific example, I was amazed that when I killed a patient in the hospital, a group of vampire hunters suspected the roommate to be a vampire and abducted the latter. I totally did not expect that to happen
Replayability - the mechanics of the game as regards building your character as well as affecting the game outcome through branching choices makes the game replayable for me.
Things that were average (not good not bad)
Story - it's like an origin story of sorts. Of how the main character becomes this strong vampire despite being a "new born". There's a big bad to defeat, and a internal conflict for the hero--a typical format for origin stories. For improvement, they just have to build upon the world they created in this first game in the sequel.
Battle system - I heard complaints about it but coming from a DS1 background I really don't mind it. The system is stamina based. Changing resource management from mana to blood (which requires resource gathering mid battle instead of resource regeneration in most games) is definitely a plus. For improvement, they should rework the stun mechanic, as it was a little cumbersome. They should also combine blood and shadow into just one type, and in my opinion, add hypnosis and other mental debuffs seen outside of battle via mesmerize mechanics as a battle mechanic, so there will be 4 systems at play: melee, range, blood casting, and hypnosis.
No save mechanic - I don't like it but at the same time I get why the system is there. At the core of it the game was inspired by Soulsborne games, but unlike those games, Vampyr is a narrative driven game, which really puts it into conflict with people who always want to try the perfect choices to achieve a good ending.

I still remember starting my first Pokémon Red save on my game boy pocket almost 24* years ago. Now starting Pokémon Legends Arceus, i feel the same sense of wonder and excitement as I did back then diving in.
I know the games have room for improvement, but there’s still nothing that beats the feeling of starting a whole new Pokémon adventure!!!

Hey all. The neighbor’s kid has gotten the 5E books and due to my posing online about it, they asked if I could run a game for them since I run it weekly online for adults.
I run Black Hack, and don’t have the 5E books, but I figure that will give a nice foundation for at least understanding the game and how it works on both sides of the screen. I know you just have to see it in action to “get” it.
Anyways, all of my module and adventure stockpile is an age past PG-13 I would guess, and probably not really geared toward new players since I haven’t been “new” to the game since the 80s.
What do you recommend as a good starter adventure for people unfamiliar with the game, that would introduce the modes of play to them? The most recent “beginner” adventure I ran was Tower of the Stargazer, so that’s not gonna be a fit for kids, lol.

Ok, I think I’m finally (at least temporarily) burned out on side scrolling metroidvanias and platformers. This year I finished — and LOVED — the Ori games, Rayman Legends, and Hollow Knight, and put huge hours into countless similar titles. I’m ready for a new vibe.
I can’t do turn-based combat.. no farming/life sims. Nothing with too much dialogue / cutscenes. action needs to keep flowing. Don’t need super intense combat, happy to button-mash. I want something with a compelling, ideally “magical” mood a la Ori or BOTW.
What do y’all love??
What the title says. Looking for a good soloable (prefer true solo, but multihand isn't a deal breaker, just please tell me if this is the case) adventure game... Like Mage Knight, but... To be honest I didn't like Mage Knight.

- Arkham Horror LCG (too much $$$)
- Mage Knight (loved the complexity but I never felt like I was getting stronger, and it felt really... Dry and mathy?)
- 7th Continent (wanted to love this, enjoyed myself for five hours, died, didn't want to start over, waited a week, tried again, five hours, died, traded it in)
