I've been living in Barcelona for almost 4 years now and because of the ever-increasing rent prices (I live alone) and the fact that I get to work remotely on most days, I decided to look for a place in Sabadell/Terrassa.
My hunt for a place started a month ago and so far, although I was among the first people to call on several ads (I have alerts set up on several sites) I was refused at different stages of the renting process, twice with the same excuse from two agencies, the apartment was rented out to someone in the family. This was after visiting the places and sending out the documents they asked for.
This whole thing culminated tonight when I talked to a 'particular'. All was fine and dandy until it came to my nationality. We were supposed to schedule a visit for tomorrow and the person told me they would message me at a later point to tell me the time. When I followed up with them on Whatsapp, lo and behold, the person had blocked me. This person didn't know anything about me except my nationality.
PS: My nationality is Romanian. I have the same job since I arrived in Barcelona and my monthly salary is 1900 EUR (net). Every single apartment I applied for was 600 EUR a month or less. I don't owe any bank money, never took out a loan, so I don't really think I represent a financial risk.
PPS: Just to leave my final thoughts after reading some of the comments. Referring to all Calatan people as possibly racist/xenophobe is maybe unfair, especially since I started having these thoughts after multiple unfortunate encounters with local agencies/landlords, not regular people. In my regular life, I don't have many Catalan friends so I didn't really have any opinion about them before recently.
In response to a top post here: if you had to choose one single person most responsible for the problems in Israel-Palestine right now, it would be Benjamin Netanyahu. Until this monster and his coalition of far-right Islamaphobes is removed from office, Israelis will have a hard time convincing the world that they truly want peace.
Itβs got 20% pop growth, which is very good, especially for lithoids (which I play a lot of).
The 40% outpost influence cost is absolute amazing for early game expansion.
You have no restriction on purging or enslaving.
It pairs very well with most other ethics, pacifist, militarists, authoritarian, egalitarian, materialist, spiritualist.
I choose it almost every game.
You can even make federations, with a bit of boot licking.
But this is just what I think. What about you?
If I want to take over multiple systems from the AI during a war, do I need to have the fanatic purifier trait, or just being a xenophobe ethic enough?
For several reasons.
From an RP perspective, xenophile empires are just more interesting to play because it's fun to imagine all the different ways your xeno communities are fitting into your empire - the Dynamic Political Events mod further enhances this. Whereas with xenophobic empires, you're trying to actively discourage immigration into your empire which means there's only ever one species to work with, and that's just boring.
Colonization becomes easy. Size-25 planet with lots of mining district slots and a juicy bonus to mineral production, but your species can't colonize it because they're not fans of frozen worlds? Just sign a migration treaty with that one race of space yetis and you're all set, my friend!
Yeah, yeah, I know, Fanatical Purifiers get like, ALL of the bonuses to fleet damage and army damage and what not. Hey, if y'all wanna play the game on easy mode, that's fine ;)
I get that Warhammer 40K memes are popular and all, but sometimes I get creeped out by just how many people on this board seem to just LOVE purging xenos in a video game. I guess it's part of this overall trend science fiction has been going the last couple decades that I don't really like where humans no longer embrace the notion of alien life but instead view it as an existential threat that must either be controlled or destroyed, which is just a bit too cynical for my tastes. Basically, I miss optimistic sci-fi.
How am I supposed to seduce the sexy aliens if I live in a xenophobic society that actively discourages that sort of thing? I mean come on - hot alien babes! Is that not what man has dreamt of since he first looked up at the stars? Forget that overgrown Jack Skellington knock-off sitting on that giant gaudy chair all day - James T. Kirk is the REAL champion of mankind!
Excuse the noob question, I've seen it posted before when I searched but there weren't really any answers applicable to the latest builds of Stellaris.
I'm on my my second game, this time as Xenophobic Humans as opposed to Xenophiles and I've just won my first war, taking a bunch of highly populated Arctic planets.
As a Xenophile I would just chill at this point and within 50 years all the xenos would be quite happy and even integrating into my homeworld.
But what are you supposed to do as a Xenophobe? Right now I have a huge amount of unhappiness and inefficiency on the conquered planets. Humans hate arctic planets with only 30% habitability.
The xenos are classed as Slaves by default, and a 100% slave population on these planets sounds both terrible and useless.
Does this mean I should resettle a bunch of them to my homeworld to do Worker jobs? Is it even worth keeping them on their planets, or do you just cut your losses there and displace/purge them?
I guess I'm just not used to Slavery (sounds so wrong saying that lol) or playing "evil" empires, so I have no idea what their actual aggressive economy strategy should be. Perhaps you're meant to purge/displace xenos, then terraform their planets later and colonise?
What a stupid thing to fallout 4
So I'm playing a scion with a Holy Guardian FE overlord, and there's 2-3 systems I really want that are on the border of the Xenophobe FE. One of them has a mega-shipyard, one has a size 22 shroud world, and one has a size 21 floating world (planetary diversity mod). All have 100% habitability. I know if I take them the FE will declare war on me, but what I don't know is:
will the FE declare total war and take every system it occupies immediately?
does the FE make claims/take territory if not?
I know sometimes the FE overlord will step into the war for you, and I've read it's at some territorial loss percentage like 25%, will it do that for the FE?
is it worth it to take the systems? I have virtually no fleet power, I'm just hoping to snag the bordering systems.
will the FE do anything bad if me and my overlord are defeated, or just humiliation?
if the war ends and I still have the territory bordering the FE, will they declare war again when the truce is over?
And it feels⦠somehow wrong.
Xenophobe and egalitarian feels like theyβre supposed to be opposing ethics, but they arenβt.
Iβm also playing as a Lithoid for this one, and was trying something new from my usual xenophobe with either militarist, materialist or spiritualist.
Maybe egalitarian xenophobe feels wrong because authoritarian xenophobe feels right?
:p
I know that "xenophile" is one opposite of "xenophobe", as xenophiles love foreigners and foreign cultures, while xenophobes hate foreigners and foreign cultures, but that's not the word I'm looking for. And then "patriot" is one who loves their own country and culture. So what I want is the missing quarter of this square.
What is the word for someone who hates their own country and culture?
E.g. An Englishman who loves France and all things French is a xenophile (or more narrowly, a Francophile)
A Frenchman who loves France and all things French is a patriot
A Spaniard who hates everything not Spanish is a xenophobe
An Italian who hates Italy and everything Italian is a what?
A German who likes every culture except their own is both a xenophile and a what?
...and asks the barman, "Do you serve Black Russians here?"
The barman replies. "No, we don't".
The Xenophobe exclaims, "Great! I'll have dinner here as well!"
Hi, Xbox player here. So for this next run Iβm playing as a Divine Empire, Iβm playing on a lower difficulty because I suck at normal, and Iβm tired of trying to prove To myself I can be as good as everyone else, so for this run itβs more for RP and just chilling and having a goodtime. But I canβt decide between Xenophobe or Xenophile for my ethics, because if Iβm gonna conquer a large part of the galaxy, absorbing a few empires in the process, shouldnβt I have Xenophile because of the fact that overtime, there will be more Xenos then Humans in my empire? And i wonβt have such a unstable country? But at the same time, Xenophobe can really make the game interesting, but at the same time I still wanna meddle in galatic politics over at the Galactic community, but at the same time...I do wanna purge, just a little bit, you know? Also, βgalatic conquestβ is somewhat inaccurate, more like I want to conquer a huge chunk of the galaxy, and the rest Iβll simply make Vasals or liberate them into divine empires. I did a run like this once, several updates ago, and I wanna try it with all the new stuff.
Like, is it actually worth it? Most of the other empire's just hate me because of it.
So I have a lovely game going on at the moment with what I'm calling my "Federation of Minor A$$holes" - It's a martial alliance, and I am Authoritarian/Militarist/Spiritualist and have been growing the federation through imposing ideology (so I don't run too far afoul of the new pop growth mechanics). Some of the empires involved swap out Authoritarian for Xenophile.
However, one of my federation members (who was originally inward perfectionist) flipped swiftly back to xenophobe shortly after joining. I figured the whole set of pressures which encourage xenophile ethics from "being in a federation with many xenos and having many agreements with xenos" would cause them to drift away from that. Especially with enforced free migration.
Somehow though, they keep growing alien pops and having those pops somehow leave their empire, and despite having been members for some 60 years now, they've only got 1 solitary pop with xenophile ethics on one of their worlds. (They actually had like 4 at one point but they somehow went backwards.)
So my question is what can I do? I'm entrenched as strongest leader of the federation and I'm on the galactic council. I have all the levers to pull but I can't work out how to sort it out, and there doesn't seem to be any point in kicking them and enforcing ideology again if they'll just insta-flip back to a xenophobe ethic again afterwards.
Help?
