P.S. I'm not saying less number of rapes means rape isn't a thing. But think about this: India has a 1.3B population yet has 20 times less rape cases than the US which has less than 1/5th of our population. That alone should say enough about our culture and this American bootlicker named Vir Das.

When it comes to his two India theory, people seem to pick on only on the “rape” comparison. I'll try to place my views on why the reaction is way too unwarranted.

I think people are entirely missing out on the point of his statement. It is an “ironical” statement rather than an attack on Hinduism/Sanatan dharma.

Hinduism unlike all other religions,place women on a higher pedestal and worship them. In my state, starting from September it goes onto January, idolizing various forms of Parvati for months. Here we talk about cultural regressiveness. We as people kneel before the same idols and simultaneously rape women. In fact during Durga puja, there’s a peak in rape, sexual harassment, molestation, etc. (speaking from first hand experience) .Exactly here Iies the irony. the self-contradiction. You don’t expect the Taliban to not disrespect and kill women.For Hindus to worship and simultaneously degrade them is the irony.It has absolutely nothing to do with religion and everything to do with cultural Hinduism/cultural regression. For sure rape happens in Islamic, Christian countries as well no doubt. They sure give women rights(in one sense or the other) .They too have women figures be it, AISHA or EVE. But honestly, no one like us puts them on higher ground.We defeat the whole purpose of prayer.

His speech was honestly brilliant. I think he or other comedians has made several other questionable statements of far bigger magnitude. This "we idolize and rape women" statement revolves around WhatsApp every Navratri, so there’s nothing to be surprised of. People saying that he is maligning India's name,like come on, I think most foreigners know and think that India is a rape capital(though it is actually not but that’s not the point here). The media has been maligning India's global image long back before Vir Das said this. So no India’s name is not tarnished any further it already is. We as people tend to focus on what foreigners think, hungry for validation. The truth is out and has been for many decades. A comedian's petty statement can enrage the public but not when Uttarakhand cm says “bachho pe kya assar padega in aurto k wajeh se(what kind of effect will this women have on kids)?)” and slut-shame an NGO woman for wearing torn jeans. A CM shaming woman on her values based on revealed knees but not her generous heart and precious time for the kids or even when a senior lady official of the National Commission For Women victim blames a 50yr old gangra

Twitter & Reddit is losing its mind over this guy & his controversial remarks. RW never learns are falls for every bait under the sun and in this particular case fell like a pack of cards. Everyone from annonimus Twitter handles to RW influencers, all tweeting about Vir Das & tagging him without knowing the amount of free publicity & milage he's getting out of this. I bet that he released the video knowing the amount outrage he will create & he was banking on this outrage to get some deal or whatever.

RW never fails to freak out abt every small thing & keeps shooting itself.

I get that our country has a lot a problems that need to be sorted, but screaming them out to the world to get some laughs from westerners is a sign of inferiority complex.

Nevertheless, it is working in our favour as only the most self hating people align with such views, thereby creating a clear demarcation.

I've seen a lot of leftist pages on insta and here and there criticising Vir Das' rant for being liberal milquetoast or whatever. Like I get it, it obviously lacks any material analysis of India's socio-economic climate because he's probably not a fucking leftist. But that doesn't mean his speech lacked substance or something, he brought up very real issues.

And I saw someone say "If your politics is limited to being anti-BJP then forget about being political, there are bigger enemies in India than the BJP" Like mf being antifascist is not an important political stance now?? If we're being real here there's no bigger damaging force to our society and politics in the coming years than the BJP, like get real.

For fucks sake our country is on a rapid collision course towards fascism and all we in the left seem to be bothered about is jerking ourselves off over our superior ideas or whatever

How come india ranks 93rd when it comes to rape ? And if someone like Vir Das goes to the white audience and gets a round of applause and 15 minutes of fame as a failed actor... then how come some GUYS come forward to DEFEND HIM huh ??

But i want to ask those with the same mindset of supporting claims of vir das based on actual DATA and FACTS according to which india ranks 93rd.

And if even then they support vir das and his slave mentality then please tell me as to how you could refute the factual data..
