Preface:
Hope this sub is relevant to this question. I could ask in a gardening related sub but much of my interest in this topic is as much to do with curiosity about the science than just a gardening hobby.
I am doing some growing experiments on Viola Tricolor, and would appreciate any information that anyone familiar with this species or the basic principles involved in growing and cloning similar species.
Cloning/Cuttings:
I am trying to determine the proper place to make cuttings on this plant.
In the image below, there are blue, red, and green circles.
Blue Circle - this seems to be the main "intersection" of the plant. This is one area I suspected to take cuttings.
Green Circle - This is what seems to be the "main" section of the plant, this is a potential spot I thought to take a cutting but ultimately went with Red Circles.
Red Circles - This is ultimately where I took my experimental cuttings. I cut of the leaves and flowers, only leaving the new growth on the last 1/4 or so of the cutting. I dipped the stem in homemade "rooting hormone" and placed in soil, watered, and have ziplock bags over the cups to keep the cuttings moist (I live in Northern Central California with 90-100 degree dry summers)

Do your worst!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
