A list of puns related to "Uses of podcasting"
At first I thought recording and publishing podcasts would be similar to recording and publishing music. In music there are two main Performing Rights Organizations (ASCAP and BMI), and you have to register with them to let them know you are either a songwriter or a music publishing company (or a self-publishing songwriter). This is done because different people can be involved in the writing, recording, and re-recording of songs and each party gets some cut of the royalties.
I've not actually gone through that process yet, but I assume that when you upload music to iTunes you have to attribute the interested parties correctly, and then Apple sends the money to either ASCAP or BMI to be distributed. Then there are services like SoundExchange and Nielsen BDS Radio to make sure you get paid if your songs are streamed online, and other services like Youtube's where you upload your material and confirm you are the owner, and Youtube alerts you if anyone else uploads the same material.
I expected this also covered podcasters, but when I look at BMI's application form it specifically refers to SONGS. So now I'm wondering - how do I protect my podcast recording? How do I register it as MINE so no one else can use it?
I've just spent the last 2 hours skimming articles and headlines, and I can't find a single article that talks about podcasters as rights owners themselves. Does anyone have any resources on this?
A couple things.... Iβm hoping to launch a podcast in the new year. Iβm not really technologically savvy, and I truly donβt have money to budget for this podcast (until I know itβs something I can pull off and enjoy).
This is why Anchor appeals to me. Seems easy enough to use and itβs free.
Iβve read that Anchor has shit analytics. I can see why thatβs an issue later down the road, but for now, Iβm honestly just dipping my toe in.
So is there something else I should consider? Help me, please!
Just bought it, wondering if it's okay for that kind of audio
I can't tell exactly but it looks like Garrett uses a Heil PR40, Jocelyn maybe a Blue Yeti and Dills a Rode Procaster? These are all just best guesses but they sound great with Jocelyn having the least fidelity I'm guessing due to having a condenser instead of a dynamic? Anyone know for sure?
Where you could directly engage with your audience or with podcasters, share podcasts etc.
I've been using audacity for some time, in Win 10 and have been times when i've had to record 3 times because it freezes randomly when recording. I read the problem is releated with RAM, but haven't find any solution yet. Could you recomend any software that you use ?
I use h4n pro and laptop to record and audacity is my software. Iβm still getting used to it.
I thought I would need to stick with my Surface Book or switch back to a MacBook Pro with its flawed keys and design compromises. Then I did some research, and now I am super happy with my 11" 256 GB Cellular as a capable powerhouse on the go.
I podcast with a USB C audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen interface) hooked up to a Shure Beta 87A with a nicely built desk tripod. I edit with Ferrite Studio, and record interviews either with a Discord bot or a service like RINGR.
For extra storage Samsung T5's are really cheap now and work like a charm in iPadOS betas. However, I would advise waiting for the release, as downloading Safari sites and unzipping files (the biggest features I needed from it atm) can be done with Readdle's excellent Documents app in iOS 12 servicably. The beta is great but not worth the bugs at the moment.
For photo editing you can't go wrong with the power of Affiinity Photo, but most of my simple edits are done in Lightroom CC. I don't do anything super fancy but it's nice to have such a great device for importing and editing photos (again works excellently with USB devices, my camera is a Sony one with USB C for direct data transfer)
For school you really can't go wrong with Notability, and OneNote is good if you want more power for notetaking. Adobe Scan, being made by the company that made PDFs, seems to have the best scanning features for high quality scans from the iPad camera, and the Microsoft To-Do app is a great and not too complicated task manager.
Anyone got any suggestions for these usecases or thoughts? Thought I would post here and maybe help anyone out curious to try these kind of workflows on an iPad.
Why would I need a mixer?
We are starting a podcast and would like to know if anyone has recommendations for recording remotely. All of us live in different areas and are trying to find a way to make recording now a nightmare to edit. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks in advance!
I think all the hosts use Overcast, and am interesting in their take on Castro, Pocketcasts and Spotify.
I'd love to see an episode of DTNS Labs that gives a deep dive, nerd's-eye-view of the tech you use to produce DTNS. Everything from mics, cameras, mixers, the tricorder (do you still use that?), Skype, GDocs, and how they fit together to allow you all to see and hear each other. Thanks!
Hey there! I record a gaming podcast with friends, and often times I'm looking up things online.
I record over a skype call, and j can hear the clicking when I'm browsing online. I've tried putting a towel or something over but that got sweaty/uncomfortable.
what's a good quiet cheap mouse I can use to reduce click noise?
Blue? Audio-Technica? Razer? What devices do you use to meme to us?

Shannon Barnson (teacher/pup quiz master/geek show panelist) has had a really rough year. His mom passed away earlier this year, he brother passed last week and just a few hours ago he had to pull his dad off life support. If you know who he is, I think a lot of Utahans do, help him out by enjoying a night of comedy. All details are in the link above. He is one of the most awesome people on the planet and could really use the money to pay for his family funeral expenses. If you can't go and want to donate thru paypal you can to: thebarndogg@gmail.com.
I am just a fan from Dallas (transplant from Utah) I can't make it to the show, but I wanted to help spread the word.
Iβm so sick of hearing about the βbusinessβ or what scene is this or that. Itβs all the same. Everybody hustles, whatever. Its all been said and there is nothing left to say. LA vs NY, living in a car, getting a gig, talking ad nauseam about venues and cityβs. Who actually gives a fuck anymore? The only reason you have a podcast is because youβre a comedian and comedians are supposed to be entertaining. What isnβt entertainment? Talking about the behind the scenes in comedy. Such an easy way to ruin a good flow of conversation in a podcast to the listener.
I checked some lexicons and glossaries to no avail. But I once heard of a term of the music that plays under the narrator's voice ... in this case it was a simple world music melody. I forget which podcast I was listening to, one of the big ones (radiotopia or prx), and they had a term for it.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Furthermore, it would be great to see more words added to podcasting lexicons that go beyond technical stuff. Like the colour of paper used to denote what stage of production, types of music and sounds used in prodiction, etc β¦
I think most of you are obviously already started. Just checking :)
Edit: seems like there is some interest. If you are interested too, please comment below so i can see how many it will benefit.

Iβll try to update this tomorrow afternoonish. Have work and headed to bed now :)
