[Austin, TX, November 1, 2020] - Although traditionally held outdoors on a single day in the spring, the first portion 2020 the O. Henry Museum Pun-Off competition known as Punniest of Show was conducted via video in October. Now on Saturday, November 21, 2020, PARD will bring you their most popular second segment, O. Henry Museum Pun-Off World Championships Punslingers Competition: Online Edition
This free, fun, and family friendly event will take place online this year, but with special twists, turns, and surprise modifications to make it the perfect 2020 event for the world's competitive wordplay community.
The O. Henry Museum Pun-Off World Championships have been an Austin institution for 43 years. As usual, the contest will feature a cavalcade of word-class wordsmiths from across the globe, all worming their way into your art. Anyone who tells you about being #1 in iTunes “New and Noteworthy” is wrong. There’s no such thing as #1 because “New and Noteworthy” is not a ranking system.
Look at “New and Noteworthy” at almost any time and you’ll see highly popular podcasts visually below less popular podcasts.
You’ll also see that ratings and reviews don’t matter in that context. At this time, the “#1 New and Noteworthy” podcast (Significant Digits) has only 7 USA ratings, only 2 episodes, and a massive more-than-30-day gap between those 2 episodes. But the “#11” podcast (Alice Isn’t Dead) has only 2 episodes, 215 USA ratings, and it’s being featured by iTunes in the top big banners in the podcasts front page.
If “New and Noteworthy” was a ranking system, Alice Isn’t Dead (from Night Vale Presents) would probably be a true #1 or vying for that top position with the other new podcasts from major networks NPR, MLB.com, ABC News, and PodcastOne.
There’s absolutely nothing about Significant Digits that makes it #1. It breaks nearly every so-called “fact” proclaimed by marketeers.
So how did such an “insignificant” podcast (pun intended) get placed so prominently in the “New and Noteworthy” list? Because the iTunes Podcasts team saw something about this new podcast that they considered noteworthy. Please, stop obsessing over bad advice from marketeers who don’t know what they’re talking about or they’re passing on misinformation without validating it themselves. Examine the facts and you’ll see other things that contributed to their success (such as great content, presentation, production, and promotion; or influence over a large, loyal following).
“New and Noteworthy” is a reward, not a goal. It is not the key to your podcast’s success.
Market your podcast as if Apple will do nothing for you and you’ll see far better results.
YOU are the key to your podcast’s success. You don’t need to wait on anyone else’s permission or feature to succeed.

They did an interview for the podcast Dear Young Married Couple (barf) titled "5 Lessons Learned in the First Year of Marriage". Some highlights:
- Dav says he enjoys playing Devil's Advocate on issues, but it makes Bethy feel insecure because he isn't instantly agreeing with everything she says. She talks about going to him when GD is getting pushback online and expecting him to stand up for her (LOL)
- Joked about how their relationship would have been illegal when they first met because Birthy was 21 and Dav was 15/16
- Birthy says she couldn't tell anyone she liked Dav because of the age difference - "What if he likes my younger sister?"
- Birthy talks about the fear of having to marry someone who was Godly but she didn't like, because she was getting older and still single
- Dav said he felt like a lot of their relationship was focused on him "trying to give her a sense of security" - she had talked and written about relationships/marriage for such a long time and had an exact list of what she wanted, and they did a ton of courses/counseling/books, and Dav says he asked himself if it would ever end
- Birthy said one of their biggest pieces of advice is to forgive quickly...but then Dav quickly asks the host how you go about forgiving quickly
- Their second thing is to believe the best in the other person...but then Dav says he's not sure how to apply this in practice, because her intentions might not actually be great. Great advice, guys! Also, Birthy's repeated example of a time she was frustrated with Dav is when he...took a nap once when they have a newborn?
- Dav talks about how he struggles not to interrupt/talk over Birthy when sharing ideas and instead actually listening, which seems on brand
- There's a really awkward moment where Bethany writes "we should speed up" on a note to Dav, which he then tells everyone about, and Bethy says "that was supposed to be secret"
It was kind of interesting because I don't think we've heard this much from Dav before ever. IMO, I would probably find him super annoying in real life - he definitely enjoys playing Devil's Advocate for no real reason than to contribute, and he can really talk - but he's at least honest and sometimes even thoughtful. It was a nice change from Bethy's canned, repeated answers to everything via Girl Defined.
I enjoy Matty Matheson's cooking videos and personality, plus his talk around getting sober was compelling. However, I can't have a single podcast without Joe bringing up Covid misinformation. Around 45mins in Joe compares Florida to California and once again spreads this idea that Cali is fucked because of lockdowns while Florida is doing fine, and to just take your vitamin D. He said he can't believe that Ontario is in lockdown and that we should open up. He must not realize that most of the population is still unvaccinated due to a plethora of reasons and our ICU numbers have skyrocketed to the degree that the feds are sending the military in to help.
I am sick and tired of being locked down in Toronto, but what alternative is there right now? New variants are spreading amongst the population and a 13-year old girl just died, our numbers are finally just coming down after a few weeks in lockdown.

Some aspects of the lockdown don't make any sense (golf courses closed??) but Joe's misinformation is going to actively hurt people when new Covid variants begin to spread amongst the young, healthy and unvaccinated population.
