They want to charge $700 to replace my motherboard b/c of bent USB 3.0 headers and not the backwards capacitor (z690 Hero)

So I recently sent in my Z690 Hero for RMA because of the backwards capacitor (that you know... can cause it to catch on fire). 4 days after receiving it, Asus just sent me an email stating they wanted to charge me $700!!!! for a whole new replacement board (i paid $615 for mine) because 1 of the 2 USB 3.0 headers had like 3 bent pins (An issue I knew existed but never mentioned or said needed fixing because I use the other one and it didn't interfere with operation). I already sent a dispute claim saying I just want the capacitor fixed and to not fix the pins, but am I out of luck? They didn't mention anything about the capacitor either but idk if they would.

(Also idk if this would help or not but I bought my board on 11/24/21 and it said I my warranty didn't cover it)

EDIT: They responded to my dispute with this: "Unfortunately, the whole unit needs to be replaced due to thisΒ Broken USB U32G1 Header per our repair center.Β Physical damage is excluded from the standard warranty coverage. If you would like to proceed with service, payment is required."

Choko Hack 12.3.0 with support for 1.7+ USB Joystick Mode

A great 2022 with much fun for all CHA owners!

A new version of Choko Hack was released, with improvements to official USB Joystick Mode in v1.7+ firmware:

  • Avoid the need of HDMI cable to be connected for USB Joystick mode by reading Coin1+Coin2 combo at boot.
  • Add an option to make USB Joystick Mode persistent, instead of resetting every reboot.

Other improvements are listed in the github and system images with the hack pre installed are also available. https://github.com/ChokoGroup/Choko-Hack/releases/latest

Multi OS images with Batocera and/or Lakka also available in https://github.com/ChokoGroup/CHA-Multi-OS-Boot/releases/latest

The hack should be updated before upgrading firmware, since versions before 12.2 can't read USB pendisk in firmware 1.7+

Some relevant notes:

  • Normal behavior is joystick mode goes back to arcade mode after reboot, but If we change "joystick mode persistence" to Yes in settings (start1+2) it will always boot into joystick mode until disabled with coin1+2 at boot;
  • Safe reboot and shutdown key combos are disabled in joystick mode;
  • If official list is the only option, the menu is skipped;
  • If there is one USB option (and only one) it is automatically loaded (menu is skipped)

Driver Installation for Delock PCIe Card (USB 3.0)

Hello!

I installed my computer the first time, and everything is working fine so far.

I have Motherboard GIGABYTE B560M DS3H V2, and in the PCIe-Slots I have got two PCIe-Cards, that each of them brings 4x USB3.0 Ports.

So far so good, it is not working.

They seem to be recognized, but when I put an external HDD (USB 3.0) in the ports, it is recognized in the first place, but is not mounted. When I click on it (to mount it manually), that also doesnt work. In about 1 or 2 minutes the HDD is disappearing in my system and am unable to get access.

When I do the same at the USB 3.0 ports on the front, it works flawlessly, is recognized immediately and also mounted automatically.

Here are more informations on those PCIe cards.. https://www.delock.de/produkte/G_89363/merkmale.html

I found that they offer a Linux driver.. which is here: https://www.delock.de/files/66627.download

I downloaded it, but the manual that comes with it, It feels like I have to be a Linux Kernel professional to set that thing up... I dont really understand what to do, and if I need to touch the kernel or not, and how to just get that to work... can somebody please translate that?

Here is the Manual.pdf that comes with the Linux Driver Package: https://file.io/pbjCz3owPpEC

I appreciate any support!

Looking for a 4/5 bay usb 3.0 or 3.2 enclosure

As the title states, im looking for a 4/5 bay external usb enclosure for 3.5" hard drives. I found a relatively cheap one by Yotamaster, but I'm worried about temps on 7200 rpm drives. I will be using them in a JBOD config, mainly to move large numbers of files from time to time, but also to have extra local storage on my laptop. I want active cooling, the enterprise drives i tend to buy run hotter than a consumer drive tends to. I have a budget of about $200, though i would prefer cheaper than that. I was also considering a $250 8 bay enclosure just in case i want to expand my portable storage, though that would be significantly larger and would require a bit of rearranging, as well as going over budget.
Would any of these be worth the money, if not, what are your suggestions?

Is any part of USB PD 3.0 implemented in the cable?

Finally decided to replace all my non-compliant USB-C accessories(hubs, cables, chargers, etc), and I've been trying to get USB PD 3.0 accessories where possible so that I get decent futureproofing(since USB PD 3.1 accessories all but don't exist! Apart from Apple which is $$$). Have been looking at various USB-C cables from different brands to decide on which one to buy to balance future-proofing, price and max performance(a super hard balance I find), and I'm wondering if any part of the USB PD 3.0 specs is implemented in the cable?

Meaning would I need a 'new' cable to get all of the USB PD 3.0 features/benefits? I understand USB PD 3.0 is backwards-compatible so PD 2.0 cables(if such a category exists) will work just fine, but does any of USB PD 3.0's additions/improvements rely on new cables?

Really hope to not lose out on any of the improvements/additions (in the future when more of my devices are PD 3.0) so if there's even one improvement I can get with a 'PD 3.0' cable, I'll go for it. Thanks!

Looking for TB2 Hub/Dock with Independent USB 3.0 hosts

Hi there,

I'm looking to expand a mini-NAS I'm running with additional USB HDDs.

I'm looking for a TB2 hub/dock with at least two independent USB 3.0 hosts. Some TB docks I've seen run each USB port through an integrated hub, so bandwidth is shared between the ports.

Ideally I'd like two put two low-cost docks in on each TB2 port. With 20 Gbps shared between the two, I can then get four USB 3.0 hosts independently using 5 Gbps, without robbing bandwidth from one another.

On a Mac you can check this in System Profiler, it will list each USB host independently when the hub is connected.

Makes and models welcome, thanks!
