A list of puns related to "Transcendental Meditation technique"
After attending a TM course I've been doing it for more than a month and so far my life has improved in more ways than one. I realise I might have achieved it with a different, cheaper to learn technique but as a newbie to serious meditation I'm satisfied with it anyway.
In recent months I got familar with more types of meditation through the internet and friends alike. They all seem interesting and benefitial in some way so I would like to try them in the future at some point.
How would I go about trying them some time later not to abandon TM? I know i can't propably do more than one at the same time but would it be ok If I changed it up for Vipassana or Mindfullness for at least a moth so I could at least check what these techniques are about?
Sorry to ask a possibly much asked question.
A friend of mine has started doing this and he said that it has really helped his anxiety and depression. He said he sleeps better and has much better concentration during the whole day.
I have heard about TM (who hasn't?) and I've kind of been put off by it because of the celebrities that sponsor and celebrate it. Maybe that is a bad thing but has put me off.
The friend that talks highly of it can be one of the most cynical people to talk to - so for him to talk highly of TM makes me think there must be something in it.
I want to try.
But how to do this?
If I do a Google search... well, you can imagine the kind of things that come up. It seems very hard to find accurate information on TM.
Does anyone have any resources or information on how to start doing TM properly?
The steps that I have found seem self explanatory. But what about the mantras? How do I find the right mantra to use?
I would be very grateful for any information that anyone can share.
Many thanks!
Not a substance Iβm afraid, rather an experience, however still very interesting. After my struggles with derealisation and anxiety, I decided to try meditating. As Iβm writing this, I am very new to the practice however here is what I have experienced so far.
In my last session, I began to see geometric shapes and objects, I saw a flower bloom in the top right of my vision, and I cannot describe the colour. Then, a black shadowy hand reached for my face. It was incredibly surreal. Furthermore, I saw an almost Buddha-like being in a female form rise from underneath my eyesight before I focused on Her and She disappeared.
So yes, whilst this was not a psychedelic experience, it was intense. I would recommend transcendental mediation to anyone who seeks to better their mental state. It is truly incredible.
I started practicing simple breathing focus meditation everyday for the last week. I have followed the introduction and basic techniques that I found in here and on the discord server. I would like to deepen my technique and found a TM group in my area, but noticed that they are reclutant to give basic advice and the website continuously redirects me into paying a fee first.. I would not mind paying a fee to join a meditation group but TM is out of my budget atm. Would it be worth to save some money for a course? Is it a one time fee or is it built to keep extracting money from you? Is it a scam ?
Please share your thoughts and experiences
I have been meditating for ~15 years now (breath and mantra mainly). I was thinking about formally learning TM. Thoughts?

In the last month, I've been on a journey to explore Mantra-based, non-directive meditation. Initially, I ran across some Transcendental Meditation (TM) videos on YouTube that mostly explain all the benefits of the program. This really got me really fired up and interested in mediation. Some videos give clues to how it works, but it is all a bit mysterious. It appears that the only way to truly learn TM is through their company with a certified TM instructor, and it costs hundreds of dollars. I've been reading a lot about it online, and I feel that this exclusivity is really just elitist snobbery and good marketing. They would have you believe that their way is the only true and effective way to meditate and everything else is just a sad imitation unable to deliver the results you are looking for. I refuse to believe this.
This lead me to what was touted as a good TM alternative: the 1 Giant Mind App. This program to learn meditation is completely free. I felt the app was very well produced, though some have said in the past that it was buggy and had technical issues. I did not experience any technical issues during the month before this post.
1 Giant mind takes you through 12 easy-to-understand lessons for a Mantra based meditation. After going through the course, I found myself continuing to meditate for 15-20 minutes twice a day and loving it - it is not boring, and it doesn't feel like a chore as I thought it might. Personally, I'm not religious, and I have a very analytical mind. Other meditation techniques didn't resonate with me, but this one did, and I really like that you don't have to believe in anything for it to work.
After some recommendations on Reddit, I wondered if I was missing something from the 1 Giant Mind app and purchased the Natural Stress Relief (NSR) program. The NSR program is extremely similar to the 1 Giant Mind program and touts itself as a solid Transcendental Meditation alternative with all the measurable benefits of TM. It can be downloaded for $25. It was developed by an ex-TM instructor.
I think the information in NSR is good. It's cool that you can access a real-live expert to answer your questions if you need them. This support isn't free, but it isn't too expensive either. I paid $12 for a 30-minute "meditation check" and question and answer session. I found it pretty helpful.
In my opinion, purchasing NSR was not necessary. I think the 1 Giant Mind app is a perfect, stand-alone meditation system. It is much bet
... keep reading on reddit β‘Does anyone have experience with both TM and Mindfulness, and would like to share insights into the difference in results?
Iβve learned TM from a teacher, and have some experience with Mindfulness and Iβm thinking about trying to juggle the two - as itβs often hard to find peace and quiet to do 2x20 min a day as TM teachers would have you do.
.. although I did pull of a month of full on TM without missing a day, and the benefits were huge!
Thanks,
I really love twin peaks and Lynchβs work as a whole, and I generally have a lot of admiration for him as an artist. That being said, Iβm not fond at all about his endorsement of transcendental meditation. The way I see it, TM is little more than a financial cult, as the prospect of a meditation method that can only be taught if you pay large sums of money is incredibly fishy to me. TM strikes me as pseudo spiritualist hoodoo, and as far as I can tell, all of its major proponents are rich Hollywood types playing on the aesthetic of eastern spirituality while simultaneously actually being deeply entrenched in western capitalism. I find it deeply disappointing that Lynch identifies himself so strongly with this group, has poured thousands into supporting it, and uses his platform to spread disinformation such as that it can give you powers. What do you guys think? Should we separate the art the from the artist? Is it even possible to do so?
