A list of puns related to "Theravāda Abhidhamma"
I'd like to start reading Abidharma, just not sure where to start. Is the Comprehensive Manual of Abidhamma by Bikkhu Bodhi a good choice? I'm quite new to Buddhism. Should I read some other books before start with it? Also not sure if there's any difference in understanding between different traditions. I'd like to study Mahayana in the future. Thanks
I have a lot of gratitude for the teachers I have been able to learn from in my journey.
Some teachers I found that stood out to me were:
Bhikkhu Bodhi - (I found his teachings accessible as a new comer to Buddhism and I feel his translations of the Pali Canon have helped countless people come into contact and grow within the Buddhas teachings. Additionally I once reached out to him and he was beyond kind and generous in our discussions. *If you ever see this "Thank you Bhante!".
Wapola Rahula - Again another teacher who helped make buddhism accessible. In particular I have a lot of admiration for his development of the "Basic Points Unifying the Theravāda and the Mahāyāna" as an ecumenical document.
Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu - I feel his more in-depth treatment of the teachings and subject matter helped me appreciate the depth of the teachings. Again I had a slight discussion in regards to some subjects of interest and he was beyond gracious. "Thank you Bhante!"
Bhikkhu Anālayo - Much like Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu this is another Bhikkhu that is absolutely incredible at conveying the depths of the teachings. Writings such as "Satipaṭṭhāna, the Direct Path to Realization" and "From Craving to Liberation" and "From Grasping to Emptiness" really honed me in on profound understandings. I can't even begin to express how amazing I feel this teacher is with conveying the profoundness of the teachings!
Ajahn Brahm - If I remembering correctly his book "Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond" really spoke to me. I felt it conveyed the depths of the other teachings that I previously mentioned in a more accessible and poetic way. I am not sure I would have been able to understand the depth of what he was trying to convey though without those more detailed writers though so that is why I feel the two must be read in tandem :)
Ajahn Amaro & Ajahn Pasanno - Much like Ajahn Brahm I felt their work "The Island: Teachings on Nibbana" was a powerful and accessible work. In particular I like how Ajahn Amaro deals with subject matter :)
Ayya Khema - Although I have some slightly different "takes" on the experiential content that is mentioned in some the meditation books I am greatly in debt for how the practice of Jhana and meditation is explored.
Leigh Brasington - A student of Ayya Khema I feel he takes that focus on Jhana and meditation and helps explore the really "logical" dimensions of it. I especially enjoyed how he spoke about how
Conceit is a problematic mental disposition which Buddhist doctrine is ostensibly against. However, most Buddhists throughout history have been deluded beings. Therefore, we did not fail to take up ideas and beliefs of superiority of all kinds, fueled by our “position” (social, doctrinal, regarding perceived or real accomplishments, etc.) within the sphere of the phenomenon known as Buddhism, and even within its sub-spheres. For example, one might consciously or unconsciously hold a view that their masculinity makes them superior and find justifying echoes of this in the Buddhist tradition that they follow. Or two people might be following the path to the same goal in virtually the same way, yet because of rhetoric to that effect one might come to believe that their version of the path—and therefore themselves—are essentially superior to their supposed peers, to say nothing of those on other paths. This phenomenon has perhaps reached its fullest expression in the modern day and on the Internet, where a good deal of interaction between Buddhists takes the form of conflict born of the conceit that one’s tradition or oneself in general is superior to others who are deficient and wrong. Further complicating matters is the conceit of so-called Buddhists, who are disconnected from tradition yet claim the right to redefine what Buddhism is supposed to be. These all arise from various causes and conditions, not the least of which is history.
In such a situation, a book that sets out to examine the notion of superiority conceit among Buddhists is very welcome. Although it does not accomplish its goal perfectly and might leave moderately experienced and knowledgeable Buddhists wanting, it is good that such a study has been published by an author of such high standing and erudition. Bhikkhu Ānalayo is likely well-known to many of us for his comparative research on early sources of Buddhist doctrine (the Early Buddhist Texts or EBTs), his respect and appreciation of all Buddhist traditions and his critical examination of many problematic doctrinal developments regarding his own sect, the Theravāda. It is this vast range of knowledge and focus on the EBTs that is the book’s greatest strength, but also its greatest failing.
The book is divided into four parts looking at a specific form of superiority conceit or some such current in a manifestation of Buddhism. These parts are 1) Buddhist Androcentrism, a study of the sources of male privilege in Buddhist doctrine an

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies 😂

Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments

Nothing, he was gladiator.
A play on words.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Chapter 26 – Buddhist Sacred Literature
>many of them grew up after his death, although they are all attributed in the Vinaya Pitaka to the direct order of the Blessed One himself.
Arid lastly, the Abhidhamma Pitaka contains disquisitions on various subjects, such as the conditions of life in different worlds, personal qualities, the elements, and the causes of existence.
Gautama, disregarding the precedent set by all classical writers and thinkers in India, preached his doctrine and morality to the people of India, not in Sanskrit, but in their own vernacular, and the Chullavagga accordingly says: “There were two brothers, Bhikkhus, by name Yamelu and Tekula, Brahmans by birth, excelling in speech, excelling in pronunciation.” And they went up to Gautama and said, “At the present time, Lord, Bhikkhus differing in name, differing in lineage, differing in birth, differing in family, have gone forth. These corrupt the word of the Buddhas by their own dialect. Let us, Lord, put the word of the Buddhas into Sanskrit verse.”
But Gautama would have none of this; he worked for the humble and the lowly, his message was for the people, and he wished it to be conveyed to them in their own tongue. “You are not, O Bhikkhus, to put the word of the Buddhas into (Sanskrit) verse. I allow you, O Bhikkhus, to learn the word of the Buddhas each in his own tongue.”
