Some content will not launch until a later date. This includes:
I've repeatedly heard that the executioner, before putting Robespierre in the guillotine, tore off the bandage that was holding his shattered jaw together, and that he screamed until the blade came down. I've also heard that he placed the man facing upwards, so he could see the blade coming.
Is there any truth to this? And if so, was there any kind of reaction to this behaviour?
Now the post is gone and I can't put anymore pictures. Lol.
But still. I just need to vent. I'm not preachy with my family at all but this just made me irrationally angry.
"Yummy steak, this is why me no vegan, meat yummy hurhurhur." Just...just....gah!
Edit: guess this got popular enough to show up in other feeds, so bring on the trolls I guess.
More info:
I don't really talk to my family much about my veganism at all other than when I told them when I switched. Inititially my mom seemed fine other than getting super hung up on what I put on bread now since I don't eat butter.
Then it was a massive attack out of nowhere mostly religious i.e. ThE bIBle DoEsn'T SAy tO bE vEgAn. So I just sent her some Bible references which she didn't bother to look at and texted back "I DON'T WANT TO ARGUE WITH YOU." My mom was and is a toxic person so I'm used to her acting like this. I firmly responded that she came out of nowhere to attack me, and she can't get mad at me for defending myself.
My family even hunts and I have not said anything to them, not one time about it. Like, I genuinely go out of my way not to be "that vegan." (Doesn't matter anyway I guess because any time I go over to someone else's I get, "Hey, how do you know if someone's vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you! LOL." and I don't even have to say or do anything.)
Because she is so toxic, most of her children keep interactions with her to a minimum, which she often complains about and tries to make us feel guilty for neglecting her.
The Facebook post happened right after a very nice phone call we had where nothing food or vegan related was brought up. It's the kind of thing she claims she wished we (her children) did more often.
Honestly, it's just another example of my mom giving me emotional whiplash. She does this kind of thing to all of us so the veganism is just what she picked on this time. She does it to all of us for various reasons.
I had a conversation with someone, and I didn't know this was such a heated issue. Turns out, there's this idea that zoos are bad for wild animals that I wasn't aware of.
It's kind of dumb to say that zoos harm animals when they do the exact opposite: shield from the horrors of the world that no one can deny (poaching, habitat erasure, extinction, etc.) and the benefits of being on the same campus as zoologists and exotic veterinarians.
People seem to have a lot of misconceptions that come with being spoon-fed misinformation from vegan outlets: things like "muh animal care" when zoos literally care for animals, or "muh freedom" when I couldn't hear a single argument that convinced me that this was a relevant issue (my question that remains unanswered is what would an animal in the wild do that's different from what an animal in a zoo does, save for the constant running from death and disease.
I'd like to hear some views on this... I don't know if this is just typical "instagram crap," but the comments were so full of people that thought that zoos were pure evil that I thought I had to post it on here.
Edit: fuck this blew up -- must be my most popular post on this sub. I'll try to get as many responses in as I can! Please bear with me!
Edit 2: I'm seeing a lot of comments about "bad zoos," and I totally agree! I think those zoos should change or be burned or something. I'd like to steer this conversation toward good-faith zoos mostly because that's the majority in the West coast, or any zoo that affiliates with the AZA (which tend to be the most successful). I don't know if I'm moving the goalposts too much (i.e. if bad zoos existing is a valid argument to support the removal of zoos' influence and control over animals, please let me know!), but that's mostly where I'd like the discussion to take place.
"Hmph, so much for draining the swamp."
This was pithy in 2016. It's meaningless now. Drain the swamp was propaganda.
"They shouldn't be allowed to vote if they left the room."
Why not? Because it would serve your sense of justice better? They don't care, they openly have no integrity and aren't trying to hide that and have no reason to. You're begging them to change the rules to let you win? Pathetic.
"They're so insecure, they have to project like this."
The Trump Administration is not your narcississtic stepmom. It's a coup, you fucking 48-year-old, MBA-holding, self-assured child.
Servers will be down for approximately 4 more hours after this post is live.
Patch 5.11 Notes: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/d7d53d91c131adfdc71ad0f270f1d38252e5aa39
Hello, Warriors of Darkness! It has been many months that we've waited for new hardcore endgame content, with The Weapon's Refrain (Ultimate) being released almost a year and a half ago at this point! This mini patch brings with it, as the title would suggest, the never-before-seen hardcore crafting and gathering content, dubbed The Ishgardian Restoration, as well as the most recent Ultimate fight, The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate). As with previous odd mini patches, please use this megathread to discuss the new content.
The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate)
The dedicated stickied discussion regarding the Ultimate content The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate) can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/dv7u3d/megathread_the_epic_of_alexander/
The Ishgardian Restoration
Unlike the previous two Ultimate releases, patch 5.11 introduces additional endgame content for Disciples of the Hand and Land for the first time, reportedly created to be the most difficult content for crafters and gatherers to date. Each server will proceed with their restorations individually based on the input received from their server's crafters and gatherers, with additional help able to be obtained via the World Visit system. Below, please feel free to comment on how your server's progress is going, how the Diadem relaunch is affecting things, and how difficult the new endgame items are to create and procure!
Casca: How could you not order enough pizza for everyone?
Julius: But there was enough for everybody to have a slice...
Brutus: I ate 2 slices.
Julius: ATE TWO, BRUTE?
Just read the Reaver chapter in feast. When the iron born are feasting on their newly captured halls, Euron makes the serving girls of the dead enemies serve the food naked. The youngest of the girls being 10. Then later one is raped in front of them as they watch and sob.
A few chapters ago, Qyburn gives the grisly details of a young girl being brutally beaten, raped and having her nose cut off in Harrenhall. He relays this to Cersei.
Randyll Tarly tells Brienne that getting raped would be good for her. I don't think a Lord would talk to a high born lady like that, even someone like Randyll, who seems to have his marbles, but is just so pointlessly cruel. (Good on Jaime for defending Brienne's honor when he smacks Ronnet Connington) Tarly is like Stannis without any redeeming qualities.
Obviously there's examples in all of the books, but I had a sobering thought that I'm reading for fun about brutal men making 10 year old girls strip for their own sick pleasure .
Also bothers me how there's only like 3 characters in the series that are mostly good; Brienne, Ned and Sam. Most characters have a good mix of good and bad, which is what makes them so endearing. (Tyrion, Jon, Dany, Jaime etc) But there's more than enough of these characters who are just plain deplorable. By that I don't even love to hate them, they just suck and need to die lol. /Rant
