In case you've never heard of this novel before, it's an alternate history novel in which Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan defeat America in WWII. America is basically split into different territories with the Nazi's controlling the Eastern half of the Former U.S.A, while the Japanese rule over the Western part. The novel differs quite a lot from the novel, in that the novel didn't actually depict any AMWF romances directly, though there was a passage from the book mentioning how Japanese men and White women couples were a common sight. I guess the producers decided to magnify that one passage in the TV Series.
The team are teleported to a random location on the East Coast right before the series starts. Can they kick the Nazis out, either by assassinating every leader or by starting a revolution?
Blazkowicz has his super-soldier body, the Da'at Yichud Power Suit in its Youngblood iteration, and any small-arms seen throughout the games.
The Courier has all implants, the Elite Riot Gear, and any weapons seen in New Vegas (however he can only carry two at a time*)
Corvo has all abilities and gear upgraded.
Batman is a composite of his Animated Seriesβ and Arkham seriesβ versions.
(Please avoid story spoilers, haven't finished the series)
From what I gather the post war German Reich maintains it's stance of exterminating inferior genes as well as brokering a deal the Japanese Empire to do the same. Even if the leadership of both sides recognize how volatile the relationship is but maintaining the alliance, the more radical German people and military segments have to be pissed right? I doubt whole segments of Germans would keep themselves quiet for the sake of political pragmatism. I'd pose the same for the Japanese people's feelings on the subject.
I just finished watching TV series 'The Man in the High Castle' and learnt few things which I think I must share with you all so please read till the end because it's important to understand the psyche of 'those people'.
Who are 'those people'? Well, basically white people but the 'liberal' version of them who dominate pop culture and define all sorts of morality which you must religiously follow because that's the zenith of morality yada yada.
Apart from regular 'White woman savior' complex, which I shall ignore...in this series was something striking which one won't notice it until 4th season.
In 4th season at the end, the conflict is going on between 'Black Communist rebellions' with the covert help of China vs Japanese Pacific States. To outside world and their public, Nazis and Japanese are allies but they still have ongoing frictions on a regular interval like targeted killings.
The protagonist, A white woman, who has been so so humble all throughout series that you can't help but root for her even though the series is so good that you actually root for Nazis as well at the same time. All the time she is against Nazis. She uses and throws people, lets them die in their situation but you can certainly say that it was an occupational hazard.
So far so good, no problems, but halfway through season 4, you notice them setting a tone I would say where the usage of the term 'State' is very obvious and direct and it also becomes pejorative. In the last episode, term 'Terrorist' is used for the protagonist by the Reighsfuhrer of American Reich indirectly making the viewer lean towards the 'terrorist' now which he had been doing for Nazis as well, all this time.
In the same episode, Black Communist Rebellions hack the signals of Reichs state TV and broadcast their anti-Nazi messages. The cause at first looks very good, if you do not think much, you will instantly support them but....it has a larger message keeping in mind the impact it has on people's subconscious mind.
On one hand, you have Nazis and on the other two groups of rebels. The usage of the generic terms is very liberal and 'State', 'Propaganda', 'Oppression' are some common ones which are used for Nazis. If you have to eventually make a choice, you would naturally go for the rebels because there is no other choice unless you want to be supportive of Nazis. But the pop culture makes extra effort to leave an impression that State is always wrong and whatever it says is always 'Propaganda' go
... keep reading on reddit β‘Is there a work of any sort which describes the events of the timeline from FDRs assassination up to the time of the TV series?
Please help as this has been driving me mad for nearly a year!! We watched a TV series a year (or two) ago where there was a man living in a town, married to his wife and everything was perfect.
As the show goes on, he starts finding out that things arent all they seem and he is being watched and almost controlled 24/7. He confronts the wife and she kind of lets him know that he is in a fabricated world (it's not the Truman show)
I'm pretty sure there is also an underground operating theatre which is key to the show.
Other things I remember is in the trailer he is staring at his wedding ring.
** I also think that it involved an underground 'city' where people could purchase an apartment for when the end of the world happened (all cupboards etc were stocked with white boxes and cans of food and drink)
TIA
After seeing positive critic reviews, I watched the pilot episode last night. I love the concept of an alternative history drama for a TV series, but I got to say: the pilot didn't feel like a premium show; it felt like an average network TV show. It wasn't bad, but it definitely felt clunky and cringy at several points. I really hope this was due to the fact that it was the pilot episode. I'd really like to hear from anyone who made it past the pilot. Does it get better in terms of quality? Does it eventually feel like a premium cable/Netflix (in most cases) production or does it maintain its network TV feel?
For some reason there hasn't been a discussion thread put up for The Man in the High Castle's final season so I thought i'd post one.
Without spoiling anything I enjoyed the season but my main problem is how for the first 7 and a half episodes it didn't feel like a final season in the slightest, a ton of characters and plot threads seemed to have been dropped between last season and this one too.
When the big things start happening that feel like it's actually apart of a final season, they felt rushed and like they should have another season to set up these big developments.
Personally I think that they were planning for five or even six seasons but between 3 and 4 they found out that they had to wrap everything up in the fourth season.
You also get this with the characters from the BCR, super interesting characters in their own right but they shouldn't have been introduced in the final season because it meant that these chaacters getting developed and introduced into this world took tons of of final season moments away from most of the already established characters, and it also meant we didn't get to see a lot of characters from prior seasons that I felt had tons more story.
Overall I think this would have been a great season if it wasn't the final one, it being the final brought it down a ton.
But what does everyone else think?
I've always been really interested in alt-history, and this was my first time watching a TV show that explored it. I really loved the show (minus the ending) and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for similar shows? Also, is it worth reading the book for TMITHC?
Edit: thank you so much for all your recommendations, Iβll definitely look into all these shows x
I don't remember there ever being this many good scripted series on at one time. There's not enough time in the day (screw full time jobs).
What am I missing?
I'm pretty far behind. Season 3 premier specifically. I honestly don't know if I'm going to keep up with it. I like the over arching story, but this show struggles to hold my attention. The color palette is possibly the blandest in all of TV, the story is overly complicated. But probably my least favorite thing about the show is the the wisper acting.specifically by the shows protagonists.
Let me give you some examples of where the main protagonist was whispering their dialogue to another character:
In a loud bar
On a dance floor
On a shooting range
And thats just in one episode! Literally 90% of all words spoken on this show are in a whisper. The whole episode just made my eyes glaze over.
Honestly, all of the "young" lead protagonists of this show I have a hard time connecting with. I'm 30, so it's not like it's because I'm super old. But they all just seem really bland. And really whisper-y.
I'm really curious about how the whole thing turns out, but the plotline of John Smith in s3e1 was probably the only interesting story arc out of the first episode.
Also I get that this show isn't supposed to be bright and cheery and colorful, but it's probably the ugliest looking TV show I've ever seen. Surely theres a middle ground thats somewhat more visually interesting.
There are a few ground rules to this hypothetical exercise:
The show will run for four seasons, each containing ten episodes.
The show has the same cast of characters and actors (but for the sake of this episode let us assume all cast members are available for all forty episodes).
Other than that, you have total creative control. How the story plays out is up to you. You can it as similar or as different to the "Prime Universe" show as you would like.
Interested to see what people come up with.
I love books that are fictional but based on a non-fictional timeline. Ones where we explore the 'what if' sort of thing, except avoiding modern (21st century) politics because that would just make me angry lol. Thanks for all your help!
Edit: Enough books for a good couple of months here! I'll check them all out. Thanks everyone.
I finally got around to watching the first episode last night and it was really dragging. Have you watched the show? If so, what did you like about it? Does it get better?
