Most caps have safety seals to know they have been opened. But if you are careful opening and closing it, you can make it still look like it was never opened. Even if they figure it out whence your checked out, there’s not a way to prove you did it and not the previous people using the room, not to mention that it’s such a small amount of money it’s not worth taking action upon.
I have used this technique nearly every time i went to a hotel with my parents, at least a dozen times, and have never had any problems.
