A list of puns related to "The Gabba"
Welcome back to the world's premier limited overs competition.
WA won the toss and elected to bat.
Hi Brisbane,
I will be attending the Ashes at the Gabba next week, but will be driving to Brisbane from a town about 3 hours away, and will have multiple small people with me. Ideally I'd like to park some where closish to the Gabba, within a reasonable walk and am happy to pay for the convenience. Being from a country town the kids have never used public transport before so would prefer to park and walk. Checked Google maps and looks like the Mater Hospital has parking close by - is that an option?
For the first day of the Ashes, I thought I'd take a little look at the Gabba over the decades.
Prior to invasion, the land that the Gabba sits on was a chain of waterholes that flowed westerly through to where Clarence Corner now sits. The waterholes were sadly drained in 1889, and the first game of cricket - between parliament and the press! - was played in 1896. East Brisbane State School next door was opened in 1899. The Gabba hosted bicycle races, greyhoud racing until the early 90s, and soccer in the 1950s and 60s. The Princess Theatre around the corner opened in 1889, and the Mater Hospital opened in 1910.
You can see how the Gabba has slowly muscled in on East Brisbane State School over the years - you can see between the 80s and 2000s, the top left of the school grounds reclaiming sports courts, and the edge of the eastern grandstand now hangs over the school.
The next likely iteration of the Gabba - a full demoltion and rebuild at the cost of $1 billion - will see major disruption to the school, and disrution to the nearby Raymond Park. This neighbourhood really needs an excellent primary school, and plenty of greenspace, particularly given the amount of new development and the growing population - I'd personally like to see a world where schools and parks have precedent over corporate facilities.

Who/Why?
Going to the ashes on the weekend. Wanted to know if anyone could tell me what a schooner costs and any advice on good/bad food etc?
In a CODE exclusive -
Glenn McGrath: Thereβs been a fair bit happening. Youβd like an easy lead-up for the Ashes! The positive for me is Pat Cummins being the captain of the Australian Test team. I think itβs an incredible effort, especially being a fast bowler. It hasnβt happened for a long time. Howβs he going?
Josh Hazlewood: Heβs slipped straight into it, to be fair. He demands a lot of respect from all the players, which is fantastic. And, as you mention, being a quick, I think the down breeze, downhill days are over for me and Starcy. Itβs all Pat now! But itβs awesome to see. [Fast bowling is] obviously where the brains trust is.
GM: Itβs fantastic to see someone from the cartel leading the team. Youβve said heβs a leader, but what sort of leader is he?
JH: He doesnβt say a hell of a lot, well not yet. He leads from the front, whether itβs with the ball or his innings with the bat, in and around training, just leading by example and heβs a guy whoβs pretty easy to get on the back of and follow. I think heβll stick to that. Heβll obviously grow as time and series go on, but thatβs where heβll start.
GM: I think heβll do a great job β¦ [but] you feel for Tim Paine. It also gives an opportunity to Alex Carey. Being a fast bowler, the wicketkeeper is so important. Youβve had a little bit of white ball cricket with Carey. How do you find him?
JH: Kez has been around the white ball stuff for a number of years and has captained the one-day team. Heβs slotted straight into the team pretty seamlessly. The test will be up to the stumps for Nath [Lyon]. We played on some pitches recently in the Caribbean, one-day wickets, which were quite tough work and he held his own. Thatβs a good gauge of where heβs at. Heβll be fine with the quicks. Heβs quite an athletic guy and covers a lot of distance.
GM: Have your preparations been different coming from T20 cricket into red ball?
JH: Weβve got the workload up from the second week of quarantine. We got down to business and had a really big week there, upwards of 40 overs. And then we freshened up coming out of quarantine and the last few days weβve had a good hit out. Weβve got the miles in the legs, although you canβt cater for a full day of Test cricket, but weβre somewhere near where we need to be. Weβll find out on Wednesday exact
... keep reading on reddit β‘Did she even really exist?
Canβt find info anywhere if itβs open to spectators, like it typically is when played at smaller grounds. Anyone know?
So I live about a block back from The Gabba, and in the month Iβve lived here Iβve heard that song in the distance multiple times everyday. Does anyone know whatβs going on? Could it just be a neighbour that really bloody likes the song? Please tell me itβs not just me that hears this. π
Hey folks, my old man and I were heading up to brissy for the first test, COVID has derailed our plans (again!!!) and now we have two tickets without a home for day 1 at the GABBA. Section 214 E Alcohol-Free zone seats D130 and D131. Ground-level as well, one concession and one adult. Looking for $20 for the concession and $25 for the Adult (retail price was $23 and $30). Chuck us a pm if you are interested.
I start a new job next week near the Gabba, 9am Starts, and wanted to see how long it would take driving in peak hour from Logan. Google Maps is saying around 1 hour + 15 minutes, does this sound about right to anyone?
Lions 11.12 78 def by Dogs 11.13 79 by 1 point.
Slow start but the Lions got on a roll with 5 mins to go in the 1st. Second was fairly even with the Dogs slightly getting on top. Good 3rd with the Lions controlling it a little. Intense 4th!
Lions are out.
Jack Payne was subbed out in the 2nd because of this. Went to hospital due to the cut.
J Berry was out at HT due to a head knock. Likely concussion.
Gabba attendee here.
As Brisbane is hosting Olympics, who wants there to be a hill (sector of the lower seating area as a sloping grassed area) after the Olympics ends?
The old Gabba hill used to be awesome- bring a rug and a chair and let the good times roll!
