A list of puns related to "Suri alpaca"
Does anyone have any experience spinning up suri (as opposed to huacaya) alpaca?
I've just been given 2 animals worth of raw fleece (oh god what am I going to do with it all?!) and one is suri. I've not handled anything with a staple this long or with slipperiness like this before, any tips for a newbie spinner trying to work a tricky fiber?! Even carding it is proving to be more than I can manage at the moment I think. I'm tempted to try to spin from the lock...
I should also say it is beautiful, so so soft and silky... and the sheen. So I do want to do it justice :)
Good day,
Could someone be kind enough to measure the outer and inner diameter of their Alpaca Suri bowl (lip of the bowl) for me?
I need the measurements in millimeters. Idealy if you have a Vernier Caliper.
Hi,
As above. After a shishabucks micro and an alpaca mini rook or suri. Price needs to include shipping to the UK. Payment will be via paypal.
Thanks!
Recently got back into hookah and am in the market for a phunnel bowl. I'm looking to try out some dark leaf varieties, specifically Tangiers, and wanted to know what people thought about these two bowls or any other favorite phunnel.
Hey
Im about to purchase a new bowl and wanted to know which of these is better: Suri or 80 Feet 80.
So Im just about to get into the dark leaf game, but mainly smoke blonde as of now. My sessions are mainly solo so I donβt need much tobacco (which is why Im opting for one of these) Can you guys advise me on which you think is better, AND WHY please?
Let me know. Thanks!

##Friend of the Week #102: Alpaca Suri
The Suri Alpaca is one of two breeds of the Alpaca. They were domesticated and bred from the wild VicuΓ±a in Peru. Both breeds have the same heights and weight, around 90 cm at the shoulder and 80 kg respectively. The difference in the breeds is the hair which grows perpendicular to the body for the Huacaya Alpaca, making them look wooly, while the Suri's coat hangs off their body like dreadlocks. They usually live in high altitudes in temperate conditions.
Alpacas are very social herd animals. Typically a herd consists of an alpha male, females and their offspring. They're quiet animals but can be agressive if provoked, startled or involved in territorial fights with other alpacas. Rarely, they will spit to shoo off threats or potential mates they aren't interested in. Breeding can occur year-round but is more common in spring and autumn. A single offspring is born after around one year of pregnancy, with rare twin births. They're naturally aggressive against canids and make for great guards for herds of sheep.
Alpacas are very clean animals with a communal dung pile, making manure collection and cleaning of their enclosures rather easy. Their fur was very important to the indigenous tribes of South America. As opposed to the larger Llama, Alpacas can not carry much weight and are unfit to be a beast of burden. Though Llamas were domesticated from the Guanaco, the other native South American camelid, all 4 species can interbreed with each other and produce fertile offspring.
Alpaca population took a massive hit during the Spanish invasion of the Andes in 1532. They had to retreat higher up the mountains where they interbred with Llamas and it was not until the 1800s that their use was rediscovered. Since then they're being bred back to their original state before the Spanish invasion.
